Just found this story and it's really capturing. The feel of the mystery created in the story is giving me chills! Seems like there's a racket or something. You know what, this last chapter reminded me of the movie 'Taken'. The girls were drugged and abused in that movie.
Is Geet Rashi? Or is Rashi Geet? Her identity is a little confusing.

Update soon! 😊

I Know, this is beyond excusable... but I am really sorry. I was too busy plus chapter 10 needed some major changing which took a while to do without having to change the end... hope you like it and comment.

Chapter 10: Geet's letter

Geet's body felt heavy and so did her eye lids. She could hear voices around her but they were not loud enough for her to hear. She thought back, tried to remember what had happened to her. Where was she and why was she here? The memory hit her so badly, her eyes flew open. She had been caught. She had run right into the trap without even knowing it. But how did they know she was back, another pain filled memory hit her. She had trusted her. She had been her biggest support then why had she betrayed her? Security, she had said. The security that against telling the truth she would be spared. At that time it was the only option to her and she had taken it. But at what price?

He had asked her why she had returned. Geet was wise enough not to mention Meera and hence they had misunderstood her intentions. This was one good thing that had happened. If they would have known about Meera, her life would have been in even more trouble.

Rawat got a message on his desk, the morning he had come to work. The order for his transfer had come from the commissioner of police himself. Now what had he done to receive such an unpleasant knew all of a sudden? He tried to talk to his superiors but all of them said they didn't know. Yeah, right!, Rawat said to himself. He called Brij, who cut his call. Instead, he received a message. Come to the Nightingale at seven. Rawat read it and found it wise to delete the sms.

Maan had tried to get into contact with Brij a couple of times. But he couldn't. Brij had not given him his number and calling Hoshiarpur had yielded no result either. He was getting desperate now. He took his car and drove to Geet's apartment. It looked the same way it had looked on his last visit. Brij had searched for clued but they had not found anything. Maan went through everything again. Then he sat on Geet's bed, tired and feeling helpless. His life had been so ordered and nice before Geet come into it and now' But no matter how muddled things were, he couldn't imagine a life without her. He ran his hands over the bed, opened the blanket and lifted the pillow. He put it back and heard a soft thump. He frowned and lifted the pillow again. There was nothing. Then he kneed down and lifted an envelope. It hadn't been here the last time. Maybe it had gotten stuck behind the bed and had fallen down as the pillow had hit the bed. Maan hurriedly opened it and saw a sheet of paper with Geet's neat handwriting.

To Maan sir,

If you found this letter, I will have been gone for longer than I had taken leave for. I cannot tell you where I went and when I will return or whether I will return or not but I can hope you will forgive me leaving like this. Something came up, something that required my attention'.

You must be wondering why I wrote this letter to you, I think I can tell you. I love you. Shocked, aren't you? But I don't have the time to break this to you in person, neither do I think I could leave once I told you.

I am sorry about it, too. Just when I thought everything was going well, it went worse.

Geet

Maan re-read the letter, tears escaping his eyes. In his hand he held the letter of the one he loved, she telling him that she was sorry but will not return. What should he make of that? He knew she must feel something for him, hoped that whatever caused her to leave will resolve and she would return.

At the Nightingale, Brij ordered a beer for himself and Rawat. They had come in casuals and mingled with the common crowed of the pub.

"My transfer order came in today morning." Rawat began. Brij nodded.

"I received suspension orders. Look at this." Rawat read through the file and his eyes widened.

"This' how can it be?"

"I was wondering about the same thing. Did you find anything on the man who shot those girls?"

"Rathore. A well-known sharp shooter who works for money. Big money. Shooting once into the head is his speciality."

"We are going right. My suspension order proves it."

"What are you planning?"

"To hell with the suspension. I am going to follow this up no matter what it costs me. We will deal with the authorities later."

"Well, I will not be able to help you much more but I suggest you talk to Khurana before you do something."

"Why him?"

"He is an influential man. He might come in handy at the right moment."

Yash welcomed Brij and told him that Maan found Geet's letter. Brij's face stiffened and asked why they hadn't told him before only to hear that they didn't have his number. Brij read it.

Chapter 11: Shedding some Light

Geet couldn't remember anything anymore. Her mind was blank, her body numb. She had remembered being taken away to another place where she had seen the girls. There were many more than she could remember. Tied up just like her, drugged and motionless. Even now, she tried to search for Meera. Her absence was not good. Where else could she be? Seeing her awake and moving, a man came and injected another dose. Geet's eye lids closed down and she lost her consciousness again.

Rashi didn't meet people. She had told Annie often enough not to bother her with anyone. But this time, Annie had come to take her to different quarters. She had kindly explained to Rashi that she will have to move, start living with other women and start her new life. Rashi moved, albeit unwillingly. As they drove, Annie put her files on the middle seat but the top file slipped down. Annie picked up the file but the photos that Brij had brought slipped from it. And then Rashi saw her photo. A bright smile lit up the beaten face.

"Geet beta. Where is Geet?" Annie saw Rashi holding a photo up. This reaction was quite unusual.

"Do you know this woman?"

"Yes, she is my Geet beti, my Geet."

Brij stood at attention in front of his superior. Both shared an understanding and that is why ACP Shergill helped Brij solve the last piece of mystery there was. However, their talk got interrupted by a call.

"Yes Miss Annie, how can I help." The next five minutes Brij was filled in with the information Annie could extract from Rashi. Brij thanked her and told him he will return to Delhi today itself. There were issues they needed to talk about. ACP Shergill had also listened to it.

"I guess the rumours are right then." He leaned back.

"Which rumours?"

"Those about Major Handa. He was probably the bravest man I had seen. Many years ago there was a mission he had to go on. It was all hushed up because high ranked officials were involved but everyone was certain Major Handa would manage it. Everything was going well but then something went wrong and he died. It was here in Hoshiarpur, his old house is still standing, burnt to ruins."

"How did it go wrong?"

"There had to be someone insider who sold details on the information to the enemy. There is no other way. But it is still uncertain who that was."

"And what about his family? He had a daughter called Geet, didn't he?"

"Oh yes. They were all killed. His wife and their three children. Geet was along them."

"But then who is the girl who says she is Geet?"

"I don't know. All I know is that the Handas had a servant in the house who went missing and she had a daughter of the same age as Geet. Maybe'" The words remained unspoken. Brij thanked his boss and was warned to be careful. Officially, he was not in the police force anymore and hence had no authority to continue his search.

Back in Delhi, Brij met with Rashi again. Maan and Yash were also present as Annie had remembered that Maan was the one filing a missing person complaint of Geet.

"Miss Rashi'"

"Kavita." They looked at her.

"My name is Kavita."

"Why did you tell us something else?" Savitry Devi asked kindly.

"Geet told me. She told them all."

"But Geet died, didn't she?" Rashi or Kavita shook her head. A few seconds passed and then she started telling them.

"I used to work for the Handas as a maid in Hoshiarpur. Geet was their oldest daughter and around the same age as my Sonal. One day, Mohinder sir came in a rush and told Rano madam something. Then she took Rajji and Shravan and Geet and left the house. Sonal and I also left from the back entrance. But then we heard screaming and yelling. I told Sonal to wait; I would see what was going on." Kavita broke up. Tears blurred her vision and sobs disabling her from speaking.

"And?"

"They killed him. They killed Mohinder sir. And they also said they will kill Rano madam. I was caught and they took me away." At this point she buried her face in her palms. The men understood her situation but they needed to know the last bit to be able to solve the mystery.

"How did you find Geet?"

"She'sob'she found me. I had been taken away, drugged and'sob'. I don't remember how many days or months passed but one day a boy came into my room, he took me into his arms and told me to calm down. I was shocked and looked up. The face, I remembered it somehow. And then he told me that he was actually Geet. She worked there. She had been looking for me." Brij looked confused.

"Geet was alive?"

"Yes, she told me that Rano madam had taken Rajji and Shravan onto her arm and Geet was running behind her. Then they saw men coming towards them and Rano madam told her to run away. She did and that is why she did not die."

"But they found the dead bodies of three children with that of one woman."

"I don't know. Maybe she' maybe she was my Sonal." Silence prevailed. Maan and Yash, who had been listening so far with heavy heart wanted to know so much more but were afraid of the answers.

"If Geet was alive, why did she not flee?" Maan managed to ask.

"She stayed so that she could help us. Over the many years, Geet managed to free a lot of girls."

"Those girls who ended up here?"

"Yes, she told all of us to come to Delhi. She told us to come under false named because if the police found us they would send us back to our families and then the men would find us and'"

"Oh god. And Meera' you don't think'" Yash started.

"'that she knew where Meera was and went back to get her." Maan ended.

"Why did she never tell the police?"

"Because they were all involved. Ten years ago, when Mohinder uncle was killed, it was an army office that killed him and his family."
