Welcome Baby Boy ❤️🧿
On that cold dark night in HP, sitting in front of the campfire, drinking neat whisky from the bottle, he thought of his life and family. Thought of all those who had betrayed him.
His Dad, by having an affair while married to his Mum...he raised the bottle, took a sip and said "cheers, Dad".
His girl friend Sam, by sleeping with his half-brother, Dev... he raised the bottle, took a sip and said "cheers, Sam"
His half-brother, Dev by womanising and gambling and, yes sleeping with Sam... he raised the bottle again, took another sip and said "cheers Dev".
He was brought out of his reverie when he heard a splash and then some screaming...he tried to block out the cries for help, but felt obliged to respond. He quickly ran to the lake and faintly saw some arms waving from the inky black lake. He dived in, not thinking of the cold...
Moments later he walked out of the lake carrying an unconscious cold wet body. He laid the body in front of the campfire and started to rub its hands and feet. He could now see that the body belonged to a young girl/ woman. Slowly his actions and the fire warmed her up and she awoke abruptly...and then she screamed...seeing this male stranger so close and touching her.
Suddenly she found his hands clamped over her mouth, which rather than quietening her, had the opposite effect. She became more anxious and agitated and louder, as she thought of all the things he would possibly do to her!!! Hey Babaji
"Chup, Bilkul chup". His voice was commanding. "If you don't stop screaming, I will throw you back into the lake!" Saying that, he let go of her mouth and walked off in the direction of the tent. Geet was stunned. No one had ever talked to her so rudely. Before she could think of anything to say, she was hit in the face with a flying shirt. His flying shirt to be precise.
"Your clothes are wet. Change, unless you want to catch cold...use the tent..."
Geet opened her mouth to say something when he continued "and before you argue, I will be more than happy to do it for you, if you cannot manage".
She quickly shut her mouth and looked at him in horror and shock. Although she hated to admit it, he was right. Her clothes were wet and it was cold now. She would catch cold, if she didn't change quickly. Reluctantly, Geet went into the tent and changed into the shirt. It was black and barley came down to her knees. After a few minutes she came out of the tent holding the shirt close to her. He had changed out of his wet clothes into some dry jeans and a vest and was sitting in front of the fire, sipping from his bottle of whiskey.
"What are you doing??" gasped Geet as she eyed the bottle in his hands.
"What does it look like?" he retorted. "And anyway, who gave you the right to ask, what I am doing? Remember little girl, I saved YOU, not the other way round..." to which he raised the bottle in cheers to her, and continued drinking.
"Who asked you to save me? Did I ask you to save me? Did you ask if I needed to be saved?" Geet pouted.
"Well actually, you were screaming, save me, save me, save me. So I took pity on you and saved you little girl..."
"STOP CALLING ME LITTLE GIRL...I am NOT a little girl"
Eyeing her up and down, in his shirt, with her milky legs exposed and her hair wet and tousled, he said smirkingly "Yes... I can see that".
Trying to ignore his last comment, Geet sat on the opposite side of the fire to him. She started thinking about her current situation. Was she safer here with him or with the masked motorcyclists?
After sometime, Geet tried to start up a conversation with the stranger.
"Can I use your phone?"
He looked at her through hooded eyes and said "You could if it was still working, but that little dip in the lake to save you, drowned my phone"
"Oh...Do you have a car?"
"Yes"
"Where is it?"
"In HP"
"How did you get here then?"
"Walked"
"Oh my God. Babaji, I can't stay here with him" she said, looking at the sky. Then she looked him directly in the eyes and asked "How will I get home?? Everyone will be worried about me"
"Not my problem"
"Some men were after me...I ran away from them and jumped into the lake to escape them. I need to let my family know I am safe. I need to get home. I am getting married in 5 days time"
"Not my problem"
"My Daarji and veerji will kill me if I don't return home soon"
"Not my problem"
"Do you have anything else to say???"
"Yes, do you have an off switch? You are giving me a headache with all these questions!"
"Oh...no need to be so rude!" She sulked silently...but not for long.
"Do you have a name?"
"Yes"
"What is it?"
"What is what?"
"Your name?"
"Huh?"
"Urgggh..." Looking at the sky she thought, Babaji, help me. Looking back at the stranger, she asked "What is your name?"
"Maan"
"Are you not going to ask me what my name is?"
"No."
"Why not?"
"Not interested"
"Interested or not, I will tell you who I am. I am Geet, Geet Handa. From HP...and I am telling you this because if I die of hunger, you at least know where to send my body!"
"Are you always so melodramatic?"
"I'm hungry"
"So?"
"As your guest, it is your duty to feed me"
"You are not a guest...I did not invite you". Saying this he got up and looked in his bag for some food. He found some chips and a packet of biscuits "I am not giving you this because you are my guest, but rather to shut you up."
Rather than argue, Geet thought it best to take the food now...she could always argue later.
