PART 76
He narrowed his brows..she gave a sheepish smile! And the next moment she knew he had pushed her against the wall and slammed his lips on hers. She felt the taste of chocolate on her tongue. Her eyes widened in shock when he pushed that half melted chocolate into her mouth and left her instantly..leaving her panting! He smirked looking at her dazed self!
"I know you want to wish me all the best! Thanks!"
He kissed her cheek before leaving, "love ya..bye!!!"
The house felt so empty once again and that weird feeling haunted her back. It's been almost a month since she was back from km and now Maan's exams! But she could never sleep in peace. Time sure flies fast! Only Maan was the one who could make her feel better but when he was away…her life would turn solitary. There was still something amiss. She needed to figure it out.
Somehow she managed to get through the day…she had her preparatory leave for her finals and there was no better idea than indulging herself in studies.
Maan did call her up after his exams but he couldn't make it to see her. for the rest of the papers, he'd visit her every night before his exams and they'd sleep cuddled up and the regular routine of feeding him chocolate in the morning. But with each passing dayMaan's departure was nearing and her restlessness increased exponentially…to such an extent that even his presence couldn't do anything to soothe her. Even in his embrace she felt an emptiness. She didn't voice out anything but her days and nights turned horribly wrong. She didn't know what to do or whom to talk to. Even Maan noticed her smile was missing and now he was even more scared to tell her anything.
And it so happened with geet that she started going to the cafe even on weekdays. Preeto was shocked to see her but geet convinced she was getting bored alone at home.
She'd sit hours by the piano playing with the keys, lost in her thoughts. She never played any piece…just sat there caressing the keys…staring to oblivion.
A few days went like this when preeto noticed this change in her. she hardly spoke to anyone there..even to raj and Nini. She'd just sit by the piano lost somewhere. Preeto wondered if she had a fight with Maan.
Meanwhile Maan was counting down the days. Things were packed and were being shipped to India. More 2 papers and then he'd probably go away by the end of the week. They had plans that he'd come back for a day or two for his convocation ceremony which was a month away. He hadn't seen his parents for god knows how long.
It was his last paper. She shot a quick prayer to her babajee for him and went to work. He hadn't shown up for the past few days. He wasn't there the previous night either. She didn't complain…probably she too wanted some solitude…she felt nothing was right. Something very important was slipping right out of her hands and she was helpless. She couldn't do anything.
She went to the cafe and sat in her usual place, by the grand piano. Preeto tapped her shoulder. She snapped out of her thoughts.
Preeto: kya baat hain geet…kab se dekh rahi hoon you are not yourself. Tell me what happened!
Tears stung her eyes and she hugged her by her waist trying to calm herself. Preeto held her back.
Preeto: is it Maan?
She didn't say anything…didn't move! Preeto sat beside her and cupped her face.
Preeto: did you answer him yet?
Geet shook her head.
Geet: but how will i… he..he is going away bhabhi.
And she broke down hugging her. preeto caressed her back.
Geet: he is not even telling me…why? Why is he going away like this?
Preeto: did you ask him yourself?
Geet again shook her head in denial.
Preeto: geet…sometimes its very much necessary to step out of your confined space and take things in your own hands. If you love him so much…then why are you holding back so much?
Geet: i..i don't know….how..
Preeto: as I had told you earlier…LET GO geet…don't worry about the outcome..he'll be there with you. Just let yourself free in the flow. Thing will fall into places on their own!
Preeto wiped her tears.
Preeto: tune Maan ke bare mein kabhi socha hai? Like how he must be feeling right now?
Geet curiously listened to preeto…honestly speaking she had never thought of this possibility.
Preeto: and you say you haven't told him anything yet..but geet..may be this is why he is not able to talk to you freely!
Now that was a deep thought indeed!
Geet: par bhabhi…aisa kya..i mean he never hides
Preeto: just think once geet. Sometimes even the smallest thing can make you do things that can hurt a lot or become a regret for the rest of your life. Don't hold back…not if you really don't wanna lose him.

She reached her flat…it was a bright sunny afternoon. She checked time..probably Maan would have finished his paper. She changed and sat on the couch when her cell rang.
Geet: hello..maan..
Maan: hey shona..am done with my exams… sham ko kya kar rahi ho?
Geet: nothing specifically…kyun?
Maan: that's great…be ready by 7 we are going out for dinner. I'll pick you up.
She could hear a lot of shouting and hooting. Probably his friends were celebrating their INDEPENDENCE DAY. Before she could say anything, th e call got disconnected.
She thought about preeto's words…what would he be thinking right now? But one thing she was sure of that he loved her dearly…more than anything else…just her. somewhere she felt a pain…what would he be thinking!
She thought and thought and thought and god knows when she dozed off. Later she woke up around 6…hurrying up with her dress. Maan had already called up thrice asking if she was ready.
He reached her flat at around 7 and of course he had a spare key and he went right in without even knocking. And there he found struggling with her shoes, jumping on one toe and trying to put the shoe on the other. He laughed seeing her like that. she was too busy to notice anything. He rubbed his temples and went to her. he lifted her from the back and placed her on the couch. She was startled at his sudden act. Her face showed no reaction...probably she was too shocked. He smiled and kneeled down in front of her, lifted her ankle and put the shoe on. She still had the same expression. He looked at her for sometime and finally broke the silence.
Maan: aise kya dekh rahi ho?
Geet: ji..wo..
And today she finally dared to look into those beautiful pair of eyes to know what he was thinking. A smile played on his lips while his eyes said something else. There was a kind of sadness in then which he beautifully concealed in his smile. She felt choked…the thought of him being away from her….waking up every morning without seeing his face…not hearing his voice…she wanted to scream out loud that she wanted him to be with her…that she won't be able to live without him but she couldn't! there was still a cage her heart was locked in. she just couldn't voice it out. Instead she slipped down and fell on him hugging him tight!
Geet: I missed you so much!
He hugged her back, trying to smile, "I missed you more sweetheart!"
She wrapped her hands tightly around him and today she felt how it felt to touch him. A different feeling altogether. Her held her waist and pulled her closer….and that's when she relaised how it felt when his grip tightened around her, crushing her into him.
She didn't want to let go of him….not today when she longed for him so much. He caressed her head and that's when he realized she had tied her hair in a loose pony.
With one swift jerk, he pulled out her band, letting her tresses go loose!
"aahh" she cried in pain she felt with the tug, still not getting out of the hug!
He didn't say anything. Rather ran his fingers through her locks straightening them!
They could have stayed like that for eternity but his cell beeped. She unwillingly let go of him. She wanted to tell him so many things but her heart was locked in a cage created by her own self. She couldn't break it.
He finished with his call and drove her to the venue, stealing glances at her. he noticed she wore a short black skirt and a cute pink top..her make was light highlighting her natural beauty..she looked so elegant!
They reached the venue at around 7:30. He opened the door for her and as they entered his hands possessively and protectively slid around her waist and pulled her closer. She looked at him and his hold…and it was again she realized that possessiveness and his protectiveness towards her.
They were greeted by Maan's friends…a small celebration for their batch mates. Even Rahul, jess and Dan were there too. He held her close to himself all through the event….like if he let her go..she'll vanish! And it was then she noticed no one questioned them! They were together…that was strange..but yeah no one did! They behaved like they had known this for a long time now.
There was a call for dance. Rahul and jess named love birds were the 1st to hit the floor. Maan gently entangled his fingers with hers and led her to the floor. The lights had dimmed and the music was soft. He took her hand and led their waltz. Her mind was completely occupied with preeto's words and his every gesture made her realize something new about him. She saw him in a completely new light today. His eyes were dark,,,trying hard to conceal something. She realized he may have been trying to tell her…his words in km echoed in her ears,
I don't even know ke wo mere bare mein feel karti hai bhi ya nahi…kuch nahi kehti wo dadi..kuch bhi to nahi kehti…
Is this why he is not telling her anything? Her heart ached to see the pain hidden beyond his dark eyes he was so trying to hide from her.
He twirled her gently to the music when she came back to reality. Her mind again drifted back to the day when he had danced with her on Spanish night… how he had held her….how his hands had touched her like he owned her… the closeness they had shared… she wanted to feel all that again! His roughness…his authority…she felt butterflies in her stomach with that thought. She inched closer and placed her head on his heart, snaking her hands round his waist. He hugged her closer swaying to the rhythm. She closed her eyes hearing his thudding heartbeat, enjoying his intoxicating scent…
Dinner was funny with people cracking jokes and talking about anything and everything.
Later they drove back silently. She got off the car half heartedly and was about to walk when he pulled her pack and pressed his lips onto hers. Today she wanted to respond… she wanted to kiss him back..but she couldn't. the cage in which she had put herself into didn't let her…
He pulled back after some time and whispered in her ears, "good night"
She gave him a questioning look.
Maan: kya?
Geet: you are not going to stay for the night…
She bit her tongue realizing what she had blurted out and looked away embarrassed!
Maan (naughtily): hmm now that's interesting..so you want me to….
He left it lingering there.. she blushed hard and ran away. He smiled and drove back.
She changed and lied on bed putting on the earplugs of her ipod. Gosh..what was she expecting! She blushed listening to the songs when some lyrics just caught her attention!!!

It felt so real…so imitated her own life..that blush and that smile just vanished somewhere and preeto's words came right back to her…what might he be thinking!

A tear rolled out of her eyes…she'd never let him go..no matter what! It was only for a short while since he hadn't told her about his departure and it hurt like hell. And here she hadn't told him anything for god knows how long..how much he'd have been she dare not imagine!

It so much suited her…he always kept her from falling apart and today probably he was falling apart…could she do anything?

And that was it! She wouldn't let him go away this easily now. She probably got the answer to her restlessness. It was her own inhibition that was talking a toll on her. she needs to tell him how much he means to her…because HE was the one whom she needed! It was just her own holding back that made her feel him slipping right out of hands…she needs to LET GO and she will!!!!
