CHAPTER-49
"Is he still on the site?" Sasha bit out.
"Yes ma'am…don't worry. He's fine," her informer told her, almost impatiently. She had paid one of the site workers to keep her posted about Maan's whereabouts.
After the night when Naintara had come to her house and threatened to harm Maan, Sasha didn't have a single moment of peace. She had spent every passing minute, thinking of terrible ways in which Naintara could hurt Maan.
"No!" she thought, with great determination, "I won't let that bitch harm Mk."
She put the phone away, and drank the glass of water deeply. But, her mind refused to calm down. She suddenly banged her hand on the wooden table in her cabin in the office, and grabbed her cell phone.
"Damn it!" I'd better go and see Mk for myself. Mujhe hamesha unke saath hi rehna chahiye. He has to get used to me soon. After I get rid of Geet." Her last words caused an almost involuntary smile on her lips, as she climbed into one of the office cars and started for the Noida site.

Maan glanced at his watch, and made an impatient click down his throat.
"Maine Geet se kaha tha, that I'll be back home quickly, lekin….it's already 5pm and I'm still stuck here. Aaj ghar jaane ke baad, madam meri band baaja degi," he thought, as he started dialling her number.
"Sir, the work will be wrapping up in a few minutes and most of the workers have also left. Aren't you gonna leave?" one of the engineers asked Maan.
"Hmm…I was just leaving," he said, while putting the phone to his ear.
He waited as the hollow rings came into his ears, and then, the impatient yet relieved voice of Geet washed over him.
"Maan! Aap thik haina?" she asked, clutching hold of the phone tightly in her hand.
Maan was stunned to hear her question. He replied, "Hain, Jaan. I'm fine. I was just coming back home, I know, I said I was going to come early, lekin…." An impatient Geet cut him off.
"Maan, I'm on my way to the site. Stay there. I have to tell you something really important," she said, the urgency and edge was clear in her voice.
"But, I am coming home, and why are you on your way to the site?" he asked, completely confused.
"Maan….hum galat the…." She said desperately, "Bilkul galat the….woh photos, humari misunderstanding… sab humare bilkul samne tha… hum nahin samajh paye…woh sab Naintara nahin…." Maan felt the line going a bit unclear, and the rest of Geet's words were vague.
"Mujhe kuch samajh nahin aa raha hain, Geet. Naintara nahin matlab? Naintara was the one who operated that account," he started saying, when his hand froze on the phone, and his whole body stood rigid as the voice reached his ears.
"Naintara didn't operate that account."
He turned around, and saw Naintara standing in front of him with her hands crossed over her chest. Just then, Maan saw the sun sinking beneath the horizon behind Naintara and the site loomed in front of him, with a few dim lights here and there and the whole place deserted. He realized that the work had actually wrapped up, and the workers had dispersed. He was alone on the site, with Naintara.
Something made Maan put the phone back to his ear. He stared straight at Naintara as he spoke into the phone.
"Geet, go back home. Don't come to the site," he murmured, and hung up.
"What the heck are you doing here?"he asked, as Naintara stared at him with a piercing gaze.
"Naintara didn't operate that account," she said again, her icy voice ripping through the evening breeze.
"Enough of your nonsense!" Maan started walking away, when Naintara spoke again, without moving from her place.
'I told you to believe me, Maan and you didn't. That was a mistake," she said, looking directly into his eyes. It had been a long time since she had called him Maan. After getting married to Dev, it was mainly Veerji.
"Maine kaha tha, that I didn't do any of the things you accused me of, and you didn't listen. I did a lot of other things, and I'm going to do a lot of other things in a few minutes, but, I DID NOT OPERATE THAT ACCOUNT. I DIDN'T TRY TO BREAK YOU AND GEET," she paused and looked at him, her voice grim and her face stern, "Because I don't care about you or Geet. You guys can go to hell. All I wanted is respect, dignity and a rightful share of the family business for my husband and me. To ensure a good and safe life for us. But, you gave me exactly the opposite."
"That's because you don't deserve any of the things you just listed off," Maan said coldly, and then, continued, 'You have no idea of the number of problems your arrival caused me, Naintara. It almost threatened to end my relationship with Geet, when I confessed to her how I once thought I was in love with you. God! I had been so damn stupid." He said, shaking his head.
"You're still stupid," Naintara said, without wincing.
'Don't you dare talk to me like that," Maan's voice was like droplets of ice, filled with malice.
"Do you know why you're stil stupid, Maan?" she continued, nonchalantly, walking towards him slowly, "kyunki, tumhare saamne sab hote huye bhi, tumhe kuch bhi nahin samajh aaya…. Everything was right there, in front of you, and you were blindly groping for evidences. And, then, ofcourse, you came up with the wrong conclusion."
Sab humare bilkul samne tha… hum nahin samajh paye Geet's words rang in his mind. They sounded so similar to Naintara's ones right now.
He was still silent, trying to process the new things he had learned, when Naintara said, in a calm and dangerous voice, "Unfortunately, the wrong conclusion is going to cost you your life, Maan Veerji," she pulled out the revolver that she had been holding behind her back the whole time, and pointed it straight at a shocked Maan, "The respect and position I want will not be mine till you're dead. I had always wanted to just move you out of the way, not breaking your relationship with that Geet."
"That was what your lovely Sasha wanted. She was the one who operated the account and tried to kill off Geet everytime. I just helped her once. The truck incident, remember?" she finished, as Maan felt the images spring up in his mind. The time when he had pulled Geet away from a fast moving truck on the road. He remembered her words clearly.
"There was a truck coming, na? But it wasn't there when I was crossing the road."
" Yes, there was a truck. And it wasn't there when you were crossing. It just came out of nowhere."
His eyes spit fire, as he said the next words,"You Bitch! Why are you after Geet? Agar himmat hain, toh deal with me first and then, go on to my wife!"
Naintara smiled, her face cold and mocking. She whispered gently, "That's what I'm here to do today, Mr.Khurana."
Maan's eyes froze, as he saw the 9mm pointed directly on his chest. He stared at the revolver and Naintara in turns coldly and sneered,"Really? That's the best you can do? Kill me off here where we're alone and you don't have to fight anyone? Oh! I forgot, you're a coward!"
The laugh was of sheer malice and scorn. Naintara took a deep breath to put an end to her laughter, and said, "Nothing you say right now can do anything to me, Maan. And, you just said, that I have to take care of you first and then, your wife. Well, guess what? I don't want to waste time on your wife!! She's going to drop dead, as soon as I kill you off."
"Don't you dare bring Geet in between this. Leave her out, samjhi?" he said, his voice still as hard as steel, but there was a desperation in his eyes which didn't go unseen by Naintara.
"Oh man! You love her so much, don't you? Sasha, the idiot she is, doesn't even realize that she has no hope or chance here, now does she?" Naintara said, laughing.
"Sasha……." Maan trailed off, as he thought of Naintara's words.
Yes, ofcourse Geet had told him about Sasha's crush on him. He had made fun of her, but then, had promised to check into it. But, things here and there somehow always lead him off tracks and he could never find out the truth. If he had, he thought sadly, he would probably be with Geet now. He would atleast be able to see her once, before he died. He stared into the revolver which Naintara had pointed towards him, and thought, "I love you, Geet and I will always love you no matter what happens. I just hope you're happy in your life and you deserve the best things. I wish I could see you once, tell you how much you mean to…probably then, it would have been easier to die at her hands."
He was still busy thinking about Geet when Naintara fired the gun. The loud boom echoed throughout the whole site piercing sharply into the calm and quiet night.
I know, but I just HAD to stop there!😆
Anyway, on a more serious note, I realize some of my readers have lost interest in the story since I had not been updating very frequently. The only thing I can say is that I'm sorry guys. I also have to update Passion and plan for A Sudden Change Of Heart. Plus, the work load in the university and everything else makes it all so difficult.😕
Anyway, the few people I've left who still read my stories and enjoy them, please hit the like button and let me know how you all liked the update.😊
