great part...
"Did you see that in Geet's house?" Emily asked revving the engine as Satya slammed the door.
"What?" He asked.
"Geet doesn't have even a single picture of her mother in her house." Emily said not looking at him.
Satya simply stared at her.
how is the above point, geet's dad's murder and maan's lost childhood memory related to these cases? i can't wait to find out how u relate everything sookie...
"What is that you wanted to talk to me about?" Geet asked walking back to the study after seeing out Satya and Emily. Maan was flipping through an old file that he had brought along with him.
She saw that in dim lighting of her study, he looked tired and the haunting past had etched themselves on his frown lines. She didn't know how far was he getting sucked into his personal nightmare and if he was able to battle the demons once there.
"Geet, I don't know if I am right about my speculation at this juncture. Here, take a look at this file. I spent most part of my day at archives going through dusty boxes," Maan said dropping the file on table in front of her.
Geet nodded and flipped the file rapidly. She sat up straight in her chair when she saw a report by 'Pratap Handa' which was authorized by Inspector Venkat. Geet looked up from the file and looked at Maan in surprise.
"Take a look at crime scene photos Geet," he said rubbing his eyes, his voice just above whisper.
Geet turned few more pages and saw photographs sliding through time worn file when her hands hastened to find out the truth.
"This is...'" she looked at Maan in shock.
"It's a crime scene which is exactly similar to Guhas; the blood, mutilation, victimology and even socio-economic status." Maan said leaning forward.
"It could be a coincidence," Geet fathomed.
Maan took two more files from his messenger bag and slid them in front of her. "There are in total three case in past twenty five years which match the criteria. That cannot be a coincidence," he said.
"Two decades is a very long cooling off period for a serial killer Maan. The statistics against it is overwhelming," Geet said. "That is, if at all the old and the new cases are really connected," she added.
"I haven't read the entire file Geet but I have a feeling that somehow all these cases are connected." Maan said.
"Based on what?" Geet asked, twisting a stranded curl from her braid. She peered at him making a mental note of the plethora of emotions that passed on his face. He recovered soon and readjusted his features to display a cool indifference.
"Call it an officer's gut feeling Geet," he said and stood up. Geet looked at him emotionlessly matching his stare.
"Why did you go looking for old cases in the first place?" Geet asked. He could practically see wheels turning in her head as she narrowed her eyes and held his eyes, demanding attention and truth, preferably.
"We always see if similar signature exists in our system Geet. Since the records are not centralized, I had to go to archives and pull them out. It's a protocol we follow Geet, you know that," Maan said adjusting his jacket and fishing out jeep keys from his pocket.
"But twenty five years is a long stretch, isn't it? I mean it's as if...'" Geet didn't finish her sentence as Maan started walking out of the study.
"We'll talk tomorrow again Geet. I'll take you to the Bhagats residence if it works out," he said and walked out of her apartment briskly without bothering to wish her goodnight. She frowned at her behavior.
'It's as if he knew with absolute certainty that the murders had happened before.'
The unfinished thought she wanted to share, completed itself in her mind.

Chapter 10:
..."Have you spoken to him?" Satya asked softly. Geet froze. "If the word gets out about his behavior during investigation, it will not be good Geet. There are too many people waiting to see him fail. One misstep from him and all of us will be pulled off from this case," Satya continued. Geet didn't respond.
"I really hope you talk to him Geet ' as his shrink or a friend I don't care. I just don't any old wounds to be reopened. It won't be good for him." Satya said and placed the washed dishes neatly on counter. Geet sighed and agreed softly.

Sookie, you've given us enough food for thought:-)
Three cases in the past 25 years. In at least one of them, Dr Pratap Handa was consulted. Now, I look forward to the timeline of each of those cases.
It was as if he knew with absolute certainty. No wonder then that it took him a while to dig out the records from the archives.
Another question that lingers from an earlier update.
Why did Satya say that one misstep from Maan could result in all of them being pulled off from the case? Generally, only the concerned officer would be pulled off, right? In this case, of course, Maan's removal could also potentially affect Geet's presence as he requested her consult in this case. But, why would Satya be pulled off the case? Merely because they work together as a team?
Will be back with more comments / questions later.
