"Rahul Khurana - 10 year-old; too smart for his age; mischievous, unruly and prankster. Oh good! He sounds just like me."
She was going through the notes given to her about the kids. She looked at the time and exhaled, knowing she only had a few more minutes before they arrived from school. The three kids had literally made the previous nannies run for their lives, hence the next one required to be strict and intelligent, because she would be helping them with their homework.
"Tisha Khurana - 3 year-old."
For a moment her eyes filled up with tears. She remembered her own times growing up without her parents and knew how hard it had been for her. She had wished for no one to be an orphan, but knew life will always be unfair...to those who will probably think it is always fair. She wondered how the little girl must feel, having lost her parents at such an age where she probably didn't understand a whole lot.
Right then the phone rang startling her out of her thoughts. She jumped in her chair before she finally answered her with trembling hands. "Hello?"
"Hello, Geet?" she thought she had heard the voice of hitler.
"Ye-Ye-Yes?" she stammered as she answered back, intimidated as she by the stern and firm voice.
"Maan Singh Khurana. I hope you found the house alright." she heard from the other end then. His voice and tone made her wonder if he was really asking she was okay or if this was some kind of comment testing her ability to find the place.
"Yes, thank you." she managed to answer back in an even voice, even though her heart was beating at 120 beats per minute.
"Okay listen carefully." o_O that doesn't sound too good, she thought to herself as she prepared for what might not have been relayed to her.
"The kids will be home in some time. Now remember, they are naughty, insolent and always up to something..specially the oldest one. Whatever happens, do not get intimidated." she rolled her eyes at the last bit and wanted to laugh at that. She didn't need advice from a hitler. She thought she could handle better than this.
After some more futile attempts from Maan Singh Khurana to scare her, he finally let her go. She stood up from her chair to rehearse for the nth time how she would greet them for the first time.
She put on her specs and started walking back and forth, wanting to come in the mood. She looked around for something to hold in her hand, but there wasn't anything that was stiff enough. Finally, her eyes fell on the flower vase which had some artificial flowers with long stems.
She pulled one out and held the rose in her fist while swaying its stem in the air to test its stiffness. Nice, she thought.
She straightened up again and started walking like a serious strict person again, pretending as if they had just entered the house running all together.
"Stop!" she shouted, pointing the stick towards them.
"Good. Now listen to me carefully. I am your new nanny, but no need to call me anything but Geet. Do you understand?" she bent herself forward towards them as if giving them warning.
"Good." she straightened up again with a smirk and turned around to walk the other way. "Now I have my own rules to go by, and if you don't follow, you are going to be in big trouble. Rule #1 - No staying up late at night. I want you all in bed by 10 pm. Rule #2 - No wasting food. " she bent towards them again and added, "..no matter what is cooked."
"Rule # 3 - Homework should be done everyday and rule # 4 - No TV for more than an hour everyday. And...and..." she came back to her own self scrating her head trying to remember rule #5 when she heard from behind her...
"Rule # 5 - No nanny stays here for more than a week."
She turned around and saw them standing there at the entrace with their arms folded, eyes narrowed checking her out head to toe. She let out a nervous laugh then, wondering how much of her act they had witnessed. She saw them walk towards her and stop when right in front of her. She made to introduce herself but was interrupted before she even opened her mouth...
"Now if you will excuse us, we need to get changed." Aditi spoke with an imitated smile and walked right passed her, making her move back on her own. Her eyes widened at that, not from fear or apprehension...but from amazement. She smirked at their departing forms and thought to herself...this is going to be more interesting than I thought.
