Many viewers after seeing april 15 and 16th episode are of the opinion that Geet is behaving childishly, is adamant, and immature and does not deserve Maan's love. After her self talks many feel that she should run to Maan and apologize immediately.

I am not sure but I am making a wild guess that the viewers who are discussing the show are not in medical or para medical field. 😊

I also do agree that it is ridiculous to mention about logic in a serial like GHSP which has taken huge cinematic liberty in the name of science,😆😆 so a short lecture in medicine and psychiatry. Will try to keep the terms simple, so that a layman understands. 😊

Clinically I can say that Geet is showing typical symptoms of post MC depression which may be similar to post natal depression due to abrupt hormonal changes and the major trauma of loss of child. 😭😭

The patient under these circumstances may show one of the following symptoms

1. The patient withdraws to herself and reduces communication with outside world (check)
2. Refuses to eat or take medicine (check, check)
3. Periodic bouts of crying (check, check)
4. Disinterested in many routine activities (check)
5. Disinterested in well being of near and dear ones ( Cases have been reported where in mothers refuse to tend to their children under these circumstances) (check)

This behavior may continue for period of 4-6 months depending upon the person and support system available. Under such circumstances it is not surprising that Geet is not responding to Maan's presence or his behavior as she would have done if she was normal. Most probably she is not readily registering what Maan is undergoing as she has withdrawn into herself. For her to react to any stimulus in a sensible manner or her usual manner will take time, clinically.

Since she is still depressed she requires one of the following in the order of priority.
1. Medication
2, Counseling
3. Love and support

She is getting 3 adequately from Maan and her family and is showing signs of improvement. She will be back to normal in a short period. May be Darji will provide 2 which will hasten her recovery process.

Now, many are of the opinion that Maan also is in pain due to her MC. But for Maan it is only mental agony while for Geet it is both physiological and mental which takes time to recover. The body undergoes many changes to accept the baby during pregnancy, physiological and hormonal changes occur during this period. When MC occurs the hormones abruptly stop producing, causing havoc to the patient system. Time, love and medicine is the only healer.

During this period she had to hear harsh words from her husband, when she was supposed to have only love and support from him. Imagine her condition, so naturally she went off tangent. If you see the scene, she left the house without uttering a word. She did not retaliate nor did she shout or fight. Classic symptoms of depression.

Some fans are of the opinion that post Geet's self talk on April 16th she is just harassing Maan and showing nakhra and hurting him. Well put it this way,
Geet is depressed then how does she realize that she is hurting Maan. Patients who are clinically depressed loose touch with their surroundings and do not respond to any outside activity (stimulus)

Do you bother about strangers or their words? But when your mother or sister or your close friends speak harsh words do you not get angry with them? Don't you close them off for a period of time, till you are in right frame of mind. Geet is doing the same thing. Maan's harsh words (sagawala) had more impact on her and her world crashed around her. During this period insecurity feeling must also have crept in. (she could not become a mother) adding to her woes.😭

So next time when we think of Geet's attitude if we keep this in mind that she is clinically depressed then it may help to understand as to why she is not responding to the stimulus (Maans insult/his pain/his love) immediately.

All thoughts on my take (the good the bad the ugly) are welcome. Any more queries on this will be appreciated. Thank you for your patient reading.😊

Excellent post. I read the post yesterday, but did not have a chance to respond. But, here I am.....U are absolutely correct. the post MC trauma...everything....I am in the medical field, as well as been through an MC...and u are right we cannot expect logic out of a show...
Geet's reaction was absolutely understandable...what she was going through was also understandable....been through it...
But, I will say one thing....her reaction was fine for a while...but now it is going out of hand....now she is becoming irrational....there is only so much abuse Geet should allow her family to throw at Maan....I mean come on....Maan said something he shouldn't have...I agree....but I still don't think it calls for what he is going through....and he is repenting for what he did...ok....fine...but Geet...she needs to speak up....she was quick to leave the house in the name of self-respect, but where is her self-respect when her family is bad-mouthing her husband, when her family is making all her decisions for her..
Her reaction and behavior after the MC was fine....but I think its a bit too much now

I am also a physician. I have to take care of patients who go through a lot of depression because they have cancer.

. The patient withdraws to herself and reduces communication with outside world (check)
2. Refuses to eat or take medicine (check, check)
3. Periodic bouts of crying (check, check)
4. Disinterested in many routine activities (check)
5. Disinterested in well being of near and dear ones ( Cases have been reported where in mothers refuse to tend to their children under these circumstances) (check)

i do not agree with your assessment of geet's clinical signs of depression.
1) geet truly has not withdrawn herself. she does involve herself in normal activities. she goes shopping with pammi, to the tailor with nandini and also to the akhada and showed no signs of disinterest while watching kushti. She has chosen not to answer the questions asked by her family not because she is detached from those questions. She was quite vocal to Dev about what she thought about maan yesterday.
2) As per maan's statement , geet does not like to take medication. he says he knows she will not take her meds. even when she was pregnant, she would not take her vitamins which has been shown in a prior scene. So that is a personality trait of geet which is in many people. Many of my pts, voluntarily choose to refuse a cancer med which is a chronic med. they do so fully knowing the risks and benefits, not because they are depressed.
3) periodic bouts of crying does not mean that that person is depressed. even in normal situations or with some stressful periods or with stressful news or going through stressful times, like cancer treatment people have bouts of crying. does not mean that they are depressed, because a lot of it depends on how they are coping with their stress. For many people crying is a form of destressing as well. It does not always mean they are depressed. there are times when my job becomes emotionally overwhelming for me seeing my patients and i do cry. But it resolves my stress and i am back on in a few hours ready to take on the world.
4) Geet did not seem so disinterested when lucky was getting beaten today. infact she is the one who stood up and said to the guy when he insulted beeji. she stood up and said that does he not know how to speak with elders. she is totally standing up and defending the feelings of her beeji. She showed care towards her darji also.

If geet is depressed she will not go out of her room at all, let alone go to an akhada to enjoy a game.

As a physician i agree and respect with your points of depression, but i do not think they apply to geet.

Sorry, i do not mean to offend you, but just trying to put forward my views

exactly

depression means dat patient doesnt even know if dere is fire all around her................

after 2 days of MC she was up all night running here and dere to do preparations of holi........she showed up no signs of tiredness and uninterest in d things
wen she told forgave dev and told him off she was in senses
wen she put tilak on his forehead where was depression
wen she heard maan's harsh words and decided to leave house den wasnt she enough sane to respond to wat maan said.....had she been in depression she wouldnt have been able to even take his words to heart..........dat is disinterest
..so i dont think its right to mock medical facts to defend a character...........................

Kay Brilliant post to the miscarriage & now as few say more trauma added though the symptoms mentioned by the post maker of depression but less applicable to the 'onscreen ' Geet we are presented with.
Great reading you Kay
