@Zee: The TRPs are basically used by media planners and advertisers to decide their media mix to reach out to their target customers. So the reason why they count TRPs from only India is because the advertisers on these channels are essentially Indian companies.

Even if they got interested advertisers in other countries the TRPs would still be calculated separately in each country since the advertisers would typically be different.

Online advertising is obviously an option but then if I look at the biggest advertisers on TV today- say the FMCG co.s internet advertising is less than 0.1% of their marketing budget!

The sample should be increased for sure- 8000 households in the larger metros is definitely not representative of viewer ship habits of the larger audience! But even then statistically you cannot argue with them 😒
