If rituals are not so important then why have those symbols in the Parineeta metaphor which are akin to the rituals to justify it? Yes, Maaneet are married in their souls but should that pre-empt a social marriage? Since a baby is involved, a marriage is not only for the sake of property and proprietory.
Why is social marriage so important if not for some reason that is external rather than internal? So what if a baby is involved? Don't people have babies out of wedlock, don't people adopt? Why are we trying to turn the wheel back with out moralistic outpourings?
