Arushi suggested that I read this FF, and I'm so glad she did!
I loved every bit of it, right from Geet's idea of setting up Tasha and Adi (seriously, what was she thinking?! 😆) to Maan's incessant stone-throwing at the window.Of course, from there onwards, I loved it even more, thanks to Geet's realisation of her love for Maan. And believe it or not, it was actually the Pokemon conversation that was my favourite bit of the FF, despite not being a Pokemon person at all. It was the level of comfort between Maan and Geet that really struck me there, so easy and so open.Basically, in short, this is an amazing FF, and you're an amazing writer (because clearly, I hadn't already figured that out... 😛).The Internet's been down lately, so I haven't had a chance to read your latest part of AOL, but I shall get down to reading it relatively soon, and shall hopefully make a comment there as well 😊Nikhita
this is arushi's secret plan to wriggle her way out of commenting herself on this thread - now she can always come back tell me, 'hey i got u more readers now, didn't i nj?' 😆
lol, jk! i know she's totally caught up atm!
Finally…!!
Yeah, I can almost hear you say that. 😆
Nj 🤗
Surprised to see my comment after the weekend. Well, I am looking for something more like happiness, surprise, and love :P You know why, cause it's exactly a month after this OS was started. Haha, kidding. Seeing that I am posting a comment a month later, I should be on the receiving end of everything bad. But I know I am forgiven. Haha !! See, that's what you get for being so patient and sweet, that's why I will tell you please be a little more strict with me :P
I love the story, needless to say. Tell me one piece of your's that I havent fell in love with? None, right? But today, I will tell you something. You are officially my most favourite writer of IF. There has always been a competition between three people (Sookie, Nandini and you), and seeing that you know both of them, you know what fantastic writers they are.. but for me you take the cake. You take the cake, because your stories are very relatable, they are close to life.. they are real, they have instances of frustration, heartbreaks, confusion, and everything real in them. So to sum it up, they are atrociously real, and I love that.
Okay, before I comment on the story I have to say one thing. No way was it over dramatic nj. And I mean it, in no ways, I would say rather we could have done with some more drama :P Ha ! Kidding, but seriously, it was a subtle piece, with really no drama. Though your whole plot and style of writing did remind me of Austen, Georgette Heyer, and Wodehouse. All very different styles of writing, but somehow I thought you had a little of all them in your piece, and really well incorporated too. I haven't seen Aisha till now, so I won't be able to comment on that.
THE TITLE:
I love that song, one of my all time favourites. Your entire title, and the lyrics chosen were so apt for the storyline. Like you said in the story, she had a number of men falling for her, enchanted by her, and ridiculously enamored by her. He is just one of them, but, lucky enough to be the one. It reminds me of the tagline of Rab Ne Bana Di Jodi – Behind each ordinary couple, is an extraordinary story. And that line stands so true, I mean, every one is special to someone, and for each of us, are stories are so special and treasured, the sad part is sometimes we don't value the experiences and feelings of others. Personally, I think even if we know the stories of 10 people, we would be much more sensitive and enlightened than we are now. But that doesn't happen, and a million stories goes on, and this, is just another one of them, special in it's own way :)
THE PLOT:
Aaah, madam, you are just brilliant, the entire plot was so beautifully carved, Geet and Dev being chuddy buddies, Maan being the keep-an-eye elder, and Geet always being the carefree one with her wings always open…. Not realizing that the wind beneath them has always been MK. Setting up of Tasha and Adi. 🤣 , that's got to be the most insane thing I have ever heard, and that is what helped bring out the character of Geet best, the fact that she acting on her whims and fancies, the fact that she did whatever she believed to be right and good for others, the fact that she was slow in understanding the feelings of others and highly misread them. The entire boat ride was extremely interesting. I read that portion thrice, only cause everytime I read it, I had a new perspective on the character of MSK. Interesting :)
THE BOND OF 'Geet and MK'
The bond and friendship of these two was something I really adored in the story. The ease with which they could taunt each other, talk to each other, know just what the other person is thinking. When Geet has her realization moment looking at the picture, she knows she needs to get away from him cause if she stays longer, the entire truth will be infront of him. When he comes home, and is bluffing around with the sandwiches etc, she knows the truth in some corner of her heart, which she later on admits, yet she doesn't want to admit it, that was how well they knew each other. She comes to apologize to him, and he watches her standing behind her, and he knows what she has come for, knows the word she wants to hear, needs to hear… and he gives her that. Hell, he even gives her a distraction in the form of Rasika Rathore. Aww, I love guys in love 😆
MAAN SINGH KHURANA:
You know why I love this guy? Cause apart from everything he is absolutely real. Someone who is been harbouring feelings inside him for a long while, someone who can't see rejection, someone who put's up a hard exterior and I-don't-give-a-damn attitude only to protect his vulnerability, someone who cares, someone who will notice each drop of water go into the ocean from the corner of his eye, someone who is always there, someone who can be a child at times needing what he desires, someone who very normal… but someone who is extremely special, cause he has loved another with all his heart, and that is so what matters in the end.
I like the way he fiddles around with random little things in the kitchen only to ease himself, he asks her and taunts her about the Pokemon (cute) dress only to get a reaction, or rather an affirmation to his thinking. He comes close to saying it on the boat, or wait, he actually says it in twisted words but then backs off… what price is not too much to risk a relationship. That's been the question on his mind since the day he realized his feelings for Geet, and he knows he wouldn't do anything that would mar what he has with Geet today, nothing at all.
His poise and his ability to hold himself up for the world even when he is a shaky sand castle inside is shown when he interacts with Daarji. He answers with patience and precision without fumbling and without getting annoyed, while his mind is running a million parallel thoughts about the girl on the first floor window, and how his life will change in the next few minutes.
GEET KAUR HANDA:
You addressed her like that, and it stuck with me, so yeah. 😆 What a beautifully weaved character ! Simply fantastic. I loved the portrayal of Geet, nj, really. She was depicted as a woman, a lady, a little girl and a crushing confused teenager all in just less that 15,000 words ! How did you manage, I wonder. But this one has to be your best character sketch I have ever read . And you know it has to be something if I am praising it soo much ;)
She is defiant, and she is so much like Maan, in ways more than she would like probably. She thinks what she does, how she acts, or what she thinks has to be right. She's got an inflated ego, which is both fed and busted by MK. She is hell bent on proving that Adi and Tasha are a match for each other, and when she see's her plan faltering, when she see's truth in MK's words, she thinks of plans to make this work ! Ego at work (Ironical with the current track, isn't it?) But at the same time, she is very girlish, she realizes her mistake and knows MK was right. Again. Despite the number of times she would have gone to apologize to him, she hesitates yet again.. and those words of consoling to the trick. Do the trick, for something entirely different awaiting her (Comments on that below, lol) Her raiding her entire cupboard for that one pair of shorts and Tee's that she still owns, just shows how much she wants things to be according to her, her refusal to accept why Maan was here, her wanting to get out as soon as he came close to telling the truth. Sigh, stubborn little girl. Her dreaming of how she wanted to be proposed, aah, don't we all when we are 16'ish, just that those fantasies never die with age, I guess that is why they say that a girl can always dream :P (That throat block was amazing)
Her going blank when she the raw truth infront of her was so very human. I mean, who actually thinks straight when the man of your dream proposes to you, and on the very day that you have realized that you always loved him, and believed in a corner of your heart that he did too. Wow ! But she knows him, she knows him to well, and even if no other living soul can grasp what he is feeling at a particular moment, she can. (And that is also why he occasionally lets his guard down with her). She understands and she knows what will stop him, what will breathe life into him again, and which words will give him a second lease of life. Literally. Aaah, those last words… Nj, hugs and kisses for that one 🤗 Muah !
THE REALISATION:
I do realize that I am writing to much, but trust me, here I have a million more things to say, and I am pathetic at editing, lol.
Photos can sometimes convey to you somethings that you might ignore with words and actions. They reflect the truth right back at you. And you have no choice but to agree to what the photo says. I have always thought that flipping through photos gives you an insight about the person you were, and essentially the person you still are. And this is something really personal to me, and maybe that is why I loved the photograph playing the catalyst for the love story of Maan and Geet. She looks at the photo and stares in the eyes of the truth that has been infront of her eyes all her life. Yeah, all her life and she ignored that, sometimes life is really funny. But at the same time it is really disconcerting to imagine all of that, and then wonder if what you are thinking is true, or just your imagination running a little to wild. She runs from there to find solace in a little girl talk, or maybe just alone. Just sometime alone with mental and physical space might find her the answers, answers that she so badly needed.
Maan knows what he has to do when he see's her, that is his moment of realization starting.. and it continues till every little act that he does, like brushing his fingers against her cheek, or simply trapping her with words to know what she feels. He misunderstands, and that was really well written, I could just imagine every emotion etched on his face. Rather I think I forgot to mention this, but this whole story played out like a visual infront of my eyes, and that too everytime I read it. Amazing isn't it? *Pat on the Back*
And while I am talking about the two big realizations I think it would be wrong to miss out on the small one's like Geet realizing what Adi was saying, Geet connecting Maans actions to his words on the boat, and finally flying high ! Aaaah, you made me happy :) Truly did madamji 🤗
Something that I had to comment on was the little interaction you ad Nikhi had. You guys spoke about how people understand everyone's emotions and not their owns, especially when they are romantic feelings. And I totally agree with that, and that is also what makes the story so special. Humans are pretty easy to read, and we can read everyone pretty clearly, but when it comes to us we're in a doubt only cause we don't want to misread the feelings and emotions and go through a heartbreak, or even an embarrassment. And oh, the elation when you discover that your reading of your own and the other one's feeling was correct. Nothing beat's that right? I guess that is why they say love is special :)
Okay, its one hell of a long comment, and I am really wondering whether to post it or not. But I guess I am going for it. I may reply late, but I always do, see :P Hehe. If you have managed to read till here, then thankyou for going through the entire thing. I know it's awfully long, and that's the reason I am not even going up to proof read it, so yeah, the usual, ignore all grammatical and spelling errors. A few side notes would be: My favourite fun part of the entire SS was the conversation of Geet and Maan after he enters her house, till the Pokemon taunts. My most favourite part where you take on life would be a tie between how Geet says she never wanted to be like him, and what she thinks is sometimes expected of her, and the one on the boat. And needless to say, my most favourite moment would be the last hug and those last few words. Made me smile and think even after I had shut down the lappy.
Loads of Love,
Aruuuuu !!!
PS: Amazing use of vocabulary madam <3
PPS: What a siggy, Ms. Creative :P
PPPS: And I am extremely sorry for anything I missed out on. ( I know I have on something, lol). Apologies :) And yeah, if you are still alive. Hey :P
