@Bold: If you read GoF, there you'll see that Harry admitted how without Ron, its no same with Hermione. Basically Ron was the balancing & gluing factor in the group. Even in DH, in the absence of Ron, Harry & Hermione had no fun together (please don't tell me they danced together as shown in movies). And Harry & Hermione too are very different personalities, & both as a child and a grown-up, I thought Harry/Hermione was always a mismatch & Ron/Hermione always makes sense to me.

I think you have watched the movies first, then decided to read the books. In real situations, no one could be best for Hermione other than Ron. Ron is the only one who defended Hermione at most instances & shown genuine interest in her. Else in real situations, Hermione type bossy girls are not much appreciated plus she was not so super human as shown in movies plus she was not so good looking. She needed a good-humoured, friendly, loyal & protective person in life who cared for her and make her grounded & remind her when she goes hyper which was only present in Ron. Yeah Ron has low self-esteem & its normal being the youngest one in such a big family, but in many situations Ron boosted Harry & Hermione with his good sense of humour and wit.

I started reading the books in 1998 and have reread them many times over the years. Not to mention that I own two sets of HP books. I didn't even watch the final 4 films until 2 years ago. So no I did not watch the movies first. I had already read the first 3 books before the first film even released. Oh and I don't care much for any of the films (as is the case for most book based films); frankly, I watched each one well after release.

I cannot support Ron/Hermione just because they were written to be together. They were end-game because that's what JKR initially intended and she decided to stick to that no matter what. However; as the story went on, these characters changed and grew. According to that trajectory, they were not good for each other which JKR herself admitted to. They were an unhealthy couple who would never have survived post-high-school. Yes Ron was good-humoured, friendly, loyal and protective but he had some toxic qualities which cannot be overlooked. He brought out his worst qualities in front of Hermione and it wasn't a pretty sight.

A writer should follow the natural progression of their works. For example, if GRRM was to stick to his initial drafts then the main love story would have been Jon Snow and Arya Stark instead of the epic that it eventually became lol. Anyways, Ron/Hermione ended up together so for a large section of fans, all's well that ends well. On another note; their pairing is still better than Harry/Ginny's half-baked, senseless, non-existent love story lol.

W e do have our reasons why we like them... and why we think that that there was lot of scope for his redemption.... Yes we do have an alternate universe for them... And trust me we don't really imagine them as Emma and Tom or like them just because of their good looks or just because they look good together...

We like them coz we feel that their was lot of scope...which JK didn't explain... many people go with her views and I respect that... It's ok...

Besides just because we have a diff preference doesn't make us as worse or toxic as u might think....
