^ Haha true, I was a little surprised by the level of violence on-screen too coz well, I didn't really think Gowariker was that kind of a director/writer. 😆 I wasn't that put off though. 😊

I agree that Akbar's violent side sort of came out of the blue. It should have been built up earlier. Maybe they edited that out to reduce the run time or something. 🤔 I wouldn't be too surprised if they had shot 4 hours of film and reduced it to 3:20 😆 Gowariker does tend to go overboard with the length. 😉

LMAO @ the elephant scene vs Hrithik's dancing 😆 I think that was their way of introducing Akbar's "macho" side. 😉 The idea was good but the execution was a little...out there. That scene could have been shortened without losing its importance. 😊

You know what I really didn't like about the movie...? The fact that they made it out to be such a great romance between the two of them.... So pure and eternal...:/:/:/ If I'm not mistaken, Jodhaa (Actually Hira - Jodhaa was never her name... Some say Jodhaa was the name of Akbar's daughter in law, son Salim's wife.) was Akbar's third wife, and later, went on to become one of the hundreds of wives he had (not to mention about 5000-ish women in his harem).... 🤔

I guess it wouldnt come across as so damn romantic if they had shown his other wives, since fidelity is quite an important aspect in a relationship now. But still, if they were going for historical accuracy, they should have mentioned them at least. (Too much to ask, when the name of the movie itself is kinda incorrect? 😛 😛 😛 )

Thanks 4 all the wonderful reviews. After reading them, I decided to catch the show this weekend. Normally, I end up getting disappointed when expectations are set so high for a movie but my response after seeing the show last night was : SUBHAN"ALLAH! MAGNIFICENT! Awesome! Masterpiece!

In fact I loved this movie better than Ashu's previous movies, Lagaan and Swades.

The way he has recreated the historical ambience was commendable.

HR and ASh suited their roles to a T 👏

Besides all the lovely scenes mentioned by Eijaz lover, I also loved the scene right before the interval when Akbar got upset at Jodha. I thought both HR and Ash were at their best acting wise- no melodrama but a lot of emotion in that scene.

Hats off to Ashu for making this masterpiece

The one scene I hated most was the last scene when AB's voice appears out of no where and the credits started rolling....I wish the movie was even longer. The 3 hrs 20 mins were to too short IMO

I will see it again...and again...and again 👏 👏 👏

Look at it as historical fiction. Gowariker himself mentioned in an interview that this film is 70% reality and 30% fiction. I think he was being too humble. From what I saw, it was 80-90% real. It is true that Akbar's first Hindu wife, a Rajput Princess, did have significant influence in Akbar's court. It is also true that Akbar was the first Mughal Emperor who allowed freedom of worship, abolished religious taxes and all; it is also true that his life was heavily controlled by others during the early phase of his rule. The movie takes all of these historical facts and weaves them into a fictitious love story. I don't remember anyone in the movie saying that this is Akbar's first marriage. Rather this was supposed to be his first marriage to a Hindu and that is accurate if you can see that this Jodha is indeed based on Hira Kunwari. The whole movie is a what-if scenario: what if Akbar had really fallen in love with that first Hindu princess he married? After all, she did manage to gain influence in the court. 😉 The actual name of the wife is not very important considering that historical records aren't really that clear on the Mughal wives; women really weren't given that much importance in the records....unless you're either Mumtaz or Nur Jahan that is! 😆

BTW, Akbar is very young in this movie. He probably built up his harem a bit later. Although when Jodha first arrived at the Mughal fort and was shown her chambers they did mention the "shahi harem". 😉 If there is ever a sequel to this movie THEN you can demand to see his whole harem! 😃 Besides, like I said, this is historical fiction (the romance part that is) so indeed, we can chalk it up to creative liberty. 😊

Story
Political success knew no bounds for Emperor Akbar (Hrithik Roshan). After having secured the Hindu Kush, he furthered his realm by conquest until his empire extended from Afghanistan to the Bay of Bengal, and from the Himalayas to the Godavari River. Through a shrewd blend of diplomacy, intimidation and brute force , Akbar won the allegiance of the Rajputs. But little did Akbar know that when he married Jodhaa (Aishwarya Rai Bachchan), a fiery Rajput princess, in order to further strengthen his relations with the Rajputs, he would in turn be embarking upon a new journey – the journey of true love.

Direction

Ashuthosh has a vivid imagination as we are unware of the romance between the strict but caring Empror and Feiry, independent princess as he showed the romance very maturly without letting it go to mushy like evrey other bollywood cliches but the magic lies is the toture of how much hatered there is of other religions as it showed the harsh reality in a realistic manner with Haidar Ali writing is strong which the languahge may be traditional hindi/urdu but it is esy to understand rather then onfusing the viewer of what the actors are trying to say and the sets, costumes, palaces are simply exquisaite to look at as they bring out the richness and royalness of the era which is somthing to die fo as evreything is grand and done in true Mughal style but Kiran Deohans cinatography is prestine and evrey shot is captured beatifully that compliments the magnificent setting and the battle scenes will leave your jaw drops as they simply make hungery for more viewing pleasure.

Performances

Hritick looks so handsome but he simply is outstanding as he not only looked the part but oozes charisma in his expressions, diilougues as he spoke in a very powerful manner and i cant imagine anyone doing better then this versatile actor. Ashwariyah has proven her critics wrong as she played her part very well using her emotive eyes expressing her sorrow and love for Akbar with alot of capability and looked stunning for words. The rest are good in their parts but the stand outs are Sonu Sood and Ila Arun.
The chemistry between Hritick and Ash is sizzling as they burn the screen on fire esp the sword fight scene where you can fel the sexual tension between them,

Music: Music by A Rehman is soothing and fits in with the mood of the fil but the best picturisatons are AZeem O Shaan where 3000 dancers are surrounded singing the kings praises which is shot in a grand scale and In Lamhon ki Damon mein is simply romantic where the lovers finally reunite is pleasently melodious but the picturisation will send chills down ur spine.

Overall: This has evreything an epic should me it has love, romance , war but most importantly is has a issue which need to be heard within people that Ashothosh has carefully done to make it loud and clear in evreyones minds but the film is brilliant peice of cinema that is rarely made but its defnitly worth watching despite the long drousy length of 3 hours and 33 mins but its interesting , spellbounding cinematic peice of work

I too am neither a fan of ASh Rai Bachchan ( as credits claimed) nor Hrithik, but went ot watch the film because of the director and music director. However, I am forced to admit that Hrithik fitted the role to the TEE.
The elephant scene had me drooling at his physique.
The costumes suited him so well.
only likes of Maniratnam and Ashutosh can draw some acting out of plasitc ASh. She too fitted the role well , was glad to see minimal make up on heroines for a change.
The chaste Urdu and the pure Hindi dialogues were perfect too.
AS for songs ... MIND blowing, never ever heard a rendition of a Qawali in this manner.
AR RAHMAN is a genius!!!!

I watched Jodhaa Akbar yesterday evening. I can only say that I am speechless! This movie is Awesome!!!

Dear Ashutosh, Take a bow!!!
Be proud to have movies like Laagan-Swades-Jodha Akbar..... of a well deserved hat-trick !!!

Contrary to all those pseudo-intellectual critical reports, that has become norm for all movies that don't star SRK, this movie will appeal to almost all.
In JA all actors have literally lived their
performance, including Hritik and Ash.
I think this movie will be remembered as a special turning point for both the lead actors.
The detailing to minutest matters is really noteworthy. At no stage in the movie I could feel that something is fake or not correct.
The swords and the shields are truly what they are !
The costume & jwellery is magnificient, with out going overboard and yet capturing the grandeur of Mughal Empire well.
And the sets? one word....AUTHENTIC!!!

This is a must watch film, just to see Hrithik Roshan. Hrithik plays the role of Akbar magnificently and truly after seeing this movie, my respect for Hrithik as an actor has increased tremendously.
Also, Aishwarya Rai is in full galore....she looks beautiful, not in that "Miss World" style.....
But as true Rajput princess style!!
Oh and did I mention, go watch this movie to see Hrithik swirl the sword showing that bare chest....it's scorching.......phew!!!!
And so is Hrithik-Ash chemistry!!!!

ok i saw the movie last night and it was simply MAGICAL.
i loved it! hrithik and ash's characters before and after they met was portrayed fantastically though i think hrithik was much more part of the movie than ash.
they had such wonderful chemistry, their love story was beautiful!
music wasnt reali a big part of the film bt it didnt matter, the jodhaa-akbar scenes were so lovely!
the whole history element was good too bt i doubt this is what realy happened. i didnt expect it to be a completely accurate factual film so im not disappointed or reali concerned about the whole 'this isnt right' side of things.

another thing hrithik was HOT espeshili his bare chest sword trying to impress ash scene.
