Okay, this is probably the only 'negative' post till now. Please don't bash.

Let me first clarify something before I move on. I liked TZP, but not that much and that too in parts. I'm not a big fan of Aamir Khan ji and I felt his performances in some movies are over-rated (Lagaan and Mangal Pandey for example). So my disappointment towards the movie may be because of this dislike for Aamir. And the way he 'voiced his opinions' on Black conveniently before TZP's release left a bad taste in my mouth. So if I compare TZP to Black, it will only be because Aamir said that there was 'emotional manipulation' in Black which I thought he used in his own film.

Okay. Where to start? TZP's beginning and first half till Ishaan went to boarding school - very good. 👍🏼 I liked it immensely, I enjoyed the time he went out of school wandering around Bombay, and some of the scenes with his parents felt like directly out of my own life. Darsheel Safary was too good 😆 Had me in splits while made me feel bad for him in the classroom I loved the 'brother' interaction that was really sweet. 😛 The mother's attitude towards feeling angry towards Ishaan but motherly love for him as well 👏 Very well done.

After that, boarding school scenes. Some I feel were good, some were pretty 'uh-okay'. The whole 'Maa' song and everything was good, well done. But after that felt like a drag (the whole Mom calling and his not speaking.). One scene that stood out was the Hindi poem scene where Ishaan correclty pointed out the meaning of the poem but since it was abstract the Sir thought he was joking with him. Aamir's entry didn't help ; I didn't like his whole 'approach' and the song Bum Bum Bole, I feel, could have been better choreographed by Shiamakji. But Darsheel Safary was excellent as the brooding child who was slowly going into his own shell. 👏

After this whole tihng uptil the art competition- ranging upto top-notch, very good to okay-okay. The song 'Taare Zameen Par' with the mentally disabled kids was heart-tugging yes, but I felt 'emotional manipulation' here. When Aamir said he felt 'emotional manipulation' in Black, I felt he was using the same 'emotional manipulation' in TZP in the song TZP, making us feel 'bad' / 'sorry' for the kids, especially the 'child labor' scene where the kid was cleaning up the table on a roadside dhaba and Aamir gives him biscuits and tea. The scene with the parents discovering about his dyslexia was easily the 'Best Scene' of the movie; it was wonderful and I actually liked Aamir in that scene. What he said was so true, that parents want to prepare their children for the competitive world outside the home so they want tthem to be 'top rankers' and what not. Not everyone needs to be that and kids like Ishaan need special attention as they are not ready for that world, yet. The scene where Aamir asks the principal to help Ishaan could've been better though, I wanted Aamir to be more clearer to the Principal about Ishaan. Aamir helping Ishaan to read and stuff was important to show how Ishaan is getting helped, but those scenes could've been done even better. The scene where Ishaan's dad comes to talk to AAmir about how the mom is readin about dyslexia on the Internet was very good too.
The Art Competition. I liked Ishaan's painting and everything was well done, especially the jokes on the teacher (especially the Hindi teacher one).

So I liked TZP yes, especially as it had the message, but I liked it in parts.

Performance-wise, Darsheel was mind-blowing, awesome, fantastic👏 (any positive adjective 😆😆😆), The mother played by Tisca chopra 👏, the brother 👏.
Okay I leave out Aamir as I dont' think I will rank him fairly, so I wont rank him.

Rating 80/100 (4/5). Most of the points go for the wonderful technical stuff and the performances. But I felt Aaamir could've done something better. Like I felt there was something missing. And I felt sometimes there was some emotional manipulation, the same of which Aamir accused of Black.
Nevertheless I want to congrtulate Aamir for not compromising on quality; never did I feel a scene was 'tacky' or any 'product placements' were there in the movie.

Expecting even better stuff from AKP this year.

good to hear your views...I agree that the film does has a scope for improvement at lots of places...however just one point about the title song...I dont think it was manipulative...it just gave us a better understanding of the character" Nikumbh"...through the song we are told he is passionate about all kids...and so his going out of the way to help this one kid seems more logical...just my POV

but despite your not being an Aamir fan you still give it a 4/5 does speak of the good work Aamir and his team has done in delivering a memorable film!👏

👏 Wow!!! I mean Wow!!! This is the bestest movie I have ever seen in a very loooong time. Everybody should go n watch this movie. Darsheel is THE BEST actor I have ever seen, and Aamir THE BEST DIRECTOR.
I have seen so many people or should I say parents treating their kids like some race-horses. They dont understand or even try to understand what their kids are really capable of. What they couldnt do when they were kids, they try to make their kids do it, without realising the effects of the same. This movie is a real eye-opener for those parents and for the would-be parents too, if I may say so.

Excellent, excellent work by Darsheel, Amole, Aamir and the rest of the team of TZP 👏. Hats off to u guys!! 👏

I understand your point of view. Its just something I felt while watching the movie that that scene in particular. I felt it was pulling at your heart and you should feel bad for the boy...

I don't like Aamir yes, and I agree. My father, who usually otherwise enjoys Govinda-David Dhawan movies and commercial Hindi potboilers, said that the movie 'made me think'. Which I think is a commendable achievement from Aamir's team of TZP.

Films this year may have been entertaining but none i would call quality but this is special because not only its Aamir directorial debut but it has a messege that hasnt been conveyed on the big screen with the techical briliance and the emotional imapct

Cinmotography-Evrey shot has been captured perfectly with bright colours so crystal clear and the animations are equelly as stunning

Music-Evrey song fitted the mood of the film specail mention to Maa which will tugg your heartstrings when you listen to the emotional lyrics

Performances

Darsheel- This kid is adorable and what an outstanding performance that Aamir got out of him as evrey expression was realistic that none felt out of place and his eyes evoke so much emotion that you feel the pain he is going through

Aamir-Evreything he does is perfect and once again a flawless performance which will make other actors green with envy cause they know aamir will strike excitment in whatever he does

Tischa Chopra- She is an underrated actress and the scenes with her and Darsheel will gurentee to make you shed loads of tears and there will not be a dry eye in the house

Direction-Aamir has taken a risk and it payed off and evreything was perfect right from the performances, script, locations and even the smallest details are superbly done and its amazing how one Actor can be so multitalented which leaves us speechless to make us think what he is gonna do next

This film is by far the best in 2007 and possibly the best ive ever seen as films this year lacked soul but looked appealing this film is somthing that has never been attempted before and teaches us to support our kids in whatever they struggle in

5/5

^That was one of my favourite scene's in the movie, just the way Ishaan's soltitude, his detachment from his family is depicted, him not speaking, yet his mother talking to him, knowing somehow that he was indeed on the other end listening. And just the way he puts down the phone, and quietly walks away shouted of his viewpoint- abandoment from his family, and how his person, his own mind was now seperated from them, how he was so alone in the place they had left him and gone.

We definitely need to value our teachers more and should definitely help them as a community to have resources, space and time around them so that they can actually "teach" children and guide them where others come short of it.

👏 👏 👏 Exactly the message that should be derived by the movie- to help our education systems not only make mathematical robots, but to make children human beings, help them grow as people, in their own comfortable skin.

Wonderful movie. More than anything, it makes you hold higher respect in your heart for children, their innocence, and their presence in one's life, which is a blessing.
