**************SPOILERS INCLUDED******************

My review...

Its a film made from the heart...and it manages to reach the heart. It explores a child's world and sometime just like the adults lose the patience with kids the audiences may feel a little restless when the pace slackens at places. But the entire purpose of the film is to make you see a child's point of view.
Darsheel is definitely the scene stealer and Amir has done so well to remain subtle and never attempt to overshadow the protagonist
You empathise totally with the parents who are dealing with an apparently undisciplined child who is not performing in school and seems to be going wayward..but then we get to see the child's point too..we don't know still that he is a dyslexic ...but we know he is a dreamer, we know he is an artist lost in his own world of colours and somewhere we start understanding and empathising with him too.
When he bunks school and discovers sights and sounds that fascinate him...I think that was the most brilliantly picturized sequence of the movie...Mumbai looks beautiful as we watch it with Ishan's eyes.
His brother is the only one in the family who recognizes his brilliance..another subtle nuance in the story that reminds us of the cynicism that creeps into us as adults..we become so programmed to recognize excellence in a way that the world wants us to

Ishan's transformation from the rebel to a depressed, defeated soul in the boarding school is heartbreaking. You feel like getting up and giving him a hug as you see the boy giving up. Aamir's entrance dressed in brilliant colours just before the intermission lifts up your spirit as you feel glad that finally someone is here to help the little guy
Nikumbh's character despite its late entry is well etched out. His passion for kids is brought out so well in the title song...the hint of moisture in his eyes as he sees the special kids perform on stage, his helping his travel companion as she changes the baby's diaper or his buying chai biscuit for the boy in the tea stall.
And then when he meets the family in Mumbai and apprises them of Ishan's situation...tisca chopra is brilliant here

Coming to my favourite scene...it is when Nikhumb starts telling the class a story about a boy who couldn't read or write...and he asks them if they knew who the boy was...and there is Ishan who wants to just disappear from there because he thinks it is him...and he is surprised when Nikhumb says he is talking about Einsten...brilliant...Bravo lil star and his director!
By the climax scene i had forgotten that ishan and nikhumb are characters...i could feel the anxiety Nikumbh feels when he doesn't see Ishaan around...and when in the end the works of art are revealed I was crying shamelessly...
Kudos to the scriptwriter for taking us into a child's world, kudos to the researchers for enlightening us on dyslexia, kudos to the cameraman who made Panchgani look more beautiful than any foreign locale, kudos to Aamir for a wonderful directorial debut...and most of all kudos to Darsheel for making Ishaan so real !!!

My rating - 4/5

Ash,

You already watched it? I didn't read the review as I didn't want to spoil the movie for me but I saw some new promos on TV and it sure touched me.

I am eager to watch the film.
