Recap: As cameras flashed, Kanya put her small hand on Ranbir's large shoulder and smiled at the cameras.
"I hate you." She said, through her smiling teeth.
"Same here, babe." Ranbir growled back.
Part 17: Intezaar
~*RanKan Bedroom*~
Kanya comes out of the bathroom drying her hair with a towel. Ranbir, who is working on his laptop, turns around and sees Kanya, with her back turned to him, rifling through the closet. He gets up and quietly goes up behind her.
He gets close enough that he is right behind her and he can smell her fresh, fragrant hair.
R: So,
Kanya jumps in surprise, but doesn't turn around.
R: Miss I-love-you-I-hate-you,
Ranbir can feel Kanya's anxiety in her heavy breaths. She turns around slowly to face Ranbir.
R: So which is it? Kabhi bolti ho, I love you, kabhi I hate you. Badi confused lagti ho.
Kanya blushed and avoided his gaze.
R: Oh, toh tumhe abhi sharam aa rahi hai? Tab toh tum bahut himmat dikha rahi thi. Kya hua? ( he leaned even closer to her) Akele mein aisi badi badi baat kehne se darti ho?
Kanya looked up at him angrily.
K: (quietly) Shut up.
Ranbir tilted his head to the side and adopted a mockingly confused expression.
R: Kyun? Main tumhari tarah gussa nahi kar sakta? Bura bhala bolne ka haq sirf tumhe hai kya? Hamesha bahut chillati ho, yaar. Suhaag raat mein, party mein, press conference mein...
K: Ranbir, main tumhe aakhri baar bol rahi hoon.
R: Oh! Toh tum mujhe aakhri baar bol rahi ho? Oh I'm scared! Ab main kya karunga? Arre tumse shaadi kar ke –
K: BAS!
Ranbir stopped mid-sentence. He realized he had gone too far. He flinched, waiting for the explosion, closing his eyes...
He opened them again, to see Kanya standing there, not in an angry fit, but...with a single tear drifting down her cheek.
K: Javab chahte ho? Bolo Ranbir. Tumhe javab chahiye?
R: Kanya, I –
K: Main tumse pyaar karti hoon. Bahut zyaada pyaar. Haan Ranbir, I love you.
Ranbir sat in silence, staring at Kanya, numb with pain, realizing that he had made her cry.
K: Aur mujhe laga ke tum bhi mujhse pyaar karte the. Us raat, jab main issi bed pe beht kar tumhara besabri se intezaar kar rahi thi, main pal pal ginti thi, jab tum aake mujhe apna bana loge....Kaash woh lamha aata. Jab tum aa kar mujhe woh teen shabd batate jo main sunne ko taras rahi thi. Us raat, mera sabse atoot vishwas tut gaya.
Ranbir was silent. He had barely even heard what Kanya was saying. All he knew was that there was a tear on Kanya's cheek and he had caused it.
K: Meri zindagi ussi point pe atak gayi hai, Ranbir. Main abhi bhi us bed pe, dulhan ke jodhe mein behti hoon.
He looked into her eyes and saw the sadness.
K: Main abhi bhi tumhare intezaar mein behti hoon, Ranbir. Aa ke mujhe apna bana lo.
With that, Kanya walked out of the room, leaving Ranbir alone sitting on a bed with two pillows.
