Part 6

Those months that Kanya was at his house were the best…or so he thought. Having her around made him just feel so much better, happier. She could always make him laugh and have him suffer a heart attack all at the same time…just by mentioning or humming the rune of "Thriller"…Thinking about "Thriller" brought back another memory for Ranbir.

It had been weeks since Kanya had caught him dancing shamelessly to "Thriller". He had come home from work that day for lunch, which he didn't do often. He knew Aditya Bhaia and Pooja Bhabi were out for a doctor's appointment. He figured he could at least clear this thing up with Kanya. He was so scared of her bringing it up that he had avoided her ever since. He entered the house and heard music…it was coming from the entertainment room. As he got closer he noticed that it was none other that "Thriller" playing on the sound system. What he saw next took his breath away…Kanya…She was in the middle of the room, back to him, dancing away…just like he was the last time…same moves and all…

K- OOO…I'm Ranbir Nanda…business tycoon…who has a passion for Michael Jackson's "Thriller"…I can dance…oh…yeah…shake it…

When the music ended Ranbir clapped for her. Hearing this she spun around, her hair sticking to her face. Ranbir noticed she didn't have on her duppata, it was on the couch arm rest. She was shocked. She slowly took her hand and moved her hair aside, giving Ranbir a full view of her beet red face. Kanya didn't know what to do so she just looked down at the floor.

R- Why did u stop, please continue…I like your dance better than mine..and I must say…you do a pretty good Ranbir Nanda impression..

Hearing this Kanya blushed even harder, grabbed her duppata and made a mad dash for the stairs. Ranbir just couldn't help but smile. He got her. Now Ranbir didn't have to worry about her spilling his secret cuz it was hers too. After that incident they both teased each other about that song. He teased Kanya more cuz she was dying with embarrassment. It became like a secret code for them.

Pooja Bhabi was well into her seventh month. She was huge, but of course no one told her that. She was already too self conscious. They had organized her godh bharai (Baby shower) of one weekend. Once again this was a ladies function, no men. They were put out on the lawn again.

A- Ok…we have to see this, its my baby too yaar. Come on lets drew straws to if someone just volunteers…
R- Oh no you don't..not again…last time I got stuck and I'm not doing it this time. This time they will beat me for sure.
A- Come on Ranbir…don't be a spoil sport…we saved you last time didn't we…come on after all you do have a vested interest in seeing what the ladies do…someone in particular.

Ranbir looked at his brother thinking he meant Kanya…the best thing that happened to him when he was forced into going into the ladies mehendi ceremony was running into Kanya.

R- What…who…
RA- Arre, your nephew who else…after all u r the cacha.

If Ranbir did go in..IF…then he would get to see Kanya unleashed. She would be totally unknowing. He would pay to see that. Ok…so what if he got a few jutas (shoes) on him…it would be worth it. He agreed to do it. They didn't dare to send him in this time. The guys were more careful. They had already scoped out a vacant store room next to the main hall where Ranbir could go. When he was in he had convinced Aditya Bhaia to come too. Assuring him that it was totally safe. Once the function started…Ranbir saw what he wanted to see….Kanya dancing…first she danced to "Sola Shingar" from Filhaal…it was a very touching song. Funny how they mentioned the baby's cacha in that song. The next song totally threw him off his chair. It was "Didi tera Dewar Dewaana" from Hum Aapke Hai Kaun…Ranbir knew that was for him…duh…he watched Kanya dance perfectly. The song was almost over when Ranbir and Aditya decided it was time to go. They were just about to climb out the small window when the door to the storage room burst open.

In came Kanya and another girl. Kanya went straight for Aditya Bhaia and the other girl came for Ranbir. They took them by the hand and dragged them into the main hall. Aditya Bhaia was dying…afraid of what they would do to him…all Ranbir could think about was why didn't Kanya grab Ranbir's hand. Before they knew it they were standing in the middle of the main hall….all female eyes on them.

K- Didi…I told you naa..i told you they would sneak in.
P- oh..you guys are bad…
A- It was all Ranbir's idea…he dragged me in with him. I tried to stop him.
R- What…no way u r pinning this on me…
A- Ok…what ever…how did u know we were there…
K- Jiju…we knew you were going to try to get in…we didn't think you would actually use the most stupid one. The store room…come on…that's too easy…you were waiting to get caught.
A- Oh..well that…uhh…
P- Dewar ji…if you r so interested in seeing a ladies function why don't we go wife hunting for you.

When Pooja Bhabi said this Ranbir looked first at Kanya of just a second. That one look told Kanya exactly what and who Ranbir had in mind for his wife. They wouldn't have to search far. Then he looked at his Bhabi. He didn't know that both his Bhabi and Bhaia had seen that fleeting glance.

Ranbir was thankful that his Bhaia and Bhabi had seen that look…what they did changed his life…he would always be thankful to them for knowing him so well that they had caught that glance…that one glance.
