Naina was transferred to a particular instance of her past. She hesitated a little and rendered her hand to Cap Rajveer., who took it and put it on his shoulder. Naina felt a a hot flame shooting through the nerves of her into her brain, numbing her whole body for a second. The same feeling trebled as she felt his hand around her waist pulling her towards him and jerked stopped to a safe distance from his body. She was afraid that her face would reveal her inner turmoil. She kind of forced herself to smile. She could not look straight into his eyes as she feared they would melt her completely and she would drop down like a jelly fish.
"Let us start:"
Suddenly , her feet gave up and she slid on Cap. Das's chest. He thought that the "shot" of martini had made her dizzy and noted it in his mind that he would never again offer any alcoholic drink to Naina. They started to dance. Cap. Das looked at Naina's face and smiled.
"You are really looking very beautiful, Lt. Singh. , mountain air and horse riding have done you good. "
"Thanks Cap Das," Naina decided to flirt and this time it was the actually the "shot" of Martini, "and maybe your company too."
"I am honoured," elated, Cap Das replied.
" I would love to see the sunrise on the famous Kanchanjangha summit. " Naina deviated from the topic of her good looks.
"That is sure a glorious sight ". Cap Das was already planning a romantic sunrise sojourn.
The particular mountain got its name as it turns all golden during the sunrise. It is also known as the Queen of Himalayas.
"I wonder !" Naina looked confused.
"What?" Cap Das was visualizing the effect of the golden sunshine on Naina's skin.
"Being so far from its namesake, why our academy was named so?"
The current musical number came to an end. Cap Das thanked Naina for the dance and led her to her original place. Seeing Mrs. Grewal there, Naina decided to do some chit chat with her.
"Madam, would you care for a drink"
"No thanks, you can dance very well,Lt Singh."
"Madam, call me Naina, and thank you for liking my dance, I was trained by .." Naina stopped in the mid sentence.
" Yes, trained by whom?"
Naina felt herself blushing deep red, "Excuse me, Ma'am , I need to visit the washroom"
Mrs Grewal smiled, wondering who made Naina blush so red - Captain Das or the dance teacher.
Naina ran to the washroom. She splashed some water on her face and eyes and looked at herself in the mirror. She cursed the drink and her state of mind.
"Why am I so excited ? Why have I lost my calm.? "
Her mind drifted towards that small cottage, towards that hastily covered bed, towards that special arrangement of stools , towards that nayantara plant.
"Why do I want to go back there? Who is Raju Chacha . Why he calls a horse - Naina ?. Why KMA was named after Kanchanjangha?", the questions circled around her like a kaliedescope. She did not know the answers yet but was determined to find out soon.
As she returned to the reception hall, she found the dinner was already laid on the table and the staff and guests were taking their seats. She was placed on the left hand side Brig. Grewal, facing Mrs Grewal. Major Dixit was at the head of the table who raised a toast for the commander.
In the other corner of the hilly township, toasts were being raised at different tables. Rajveer thought that moment was right one to complete another task. The tavern was the place where he made contact with his primary source of command and information from the army. He got up from the table and went to the lone public telephone booth. He never kept a cell-phone with him not only because he could not afford but mainly because a working cell-phone made one completely traceable. He called the number but did not get any response. He had no other option but to wait and dial again after some time. He had to get the zero-point information about the next mission.
