Here is a new Fic on Rajveer and Naina,
1
"Lt. Naina Ah. Singh reporting Sir."
The sleek sound of her salute broke the silence of the hallroom.
Major Dixit looked up from his paper with a look of surprise in his eyes.
He was impressed by the look of this new officer in her crispy olive uniform. Her skin was bright against the color of her uniform and her eyes shone with determination. He thought he saw a faint wave of smile quickly passing over her lips.
"Naina Ah Singh, No such name in my list." It was more like a question .
"Lt Naina Singh Ahluwalia, Sir" Naina said without any trace of outward show of emotions.
But in her mind , she knew why she suddenly said like this. All through her journey from Ambala to Darjeeling she had been thinking about her life in KMA and of course about her Rajveer Sir. She was happy that her brother Navin Singh Ahluwalia had got back his honor. She was happier as Lala Gehlot, the man behind all the tragedy was punished . But that did not bring her Rajveer Sir back to her. And how she wished that Raveer would be her first commanding officer! So when she arrived in Darjeeling and entered the hallroom of the Cantonment head office, she had half expected to find Major Rajveer sitting on that desk and receiving her with a smile.
"So my dear Cadet Naina Ah Sing is now an officer ! Welcome Lt NAina "
"Lt Singh," , MAjor Dixits's barritone voice brought back NAina from her own dreamland , visiting which had become one of her favourite hobby.
"Yes Sir"
"Welcome to the Eastern Post of our amy at Siliguri, this is a very strategic position of Indian army as we are close to the border of a number of neighboring countries like Nepal, Bhutan, Bangladesh and China. We are also amidst a very unique region comprising of different nationalities and till recent times, a spot of continuous civil unrest. ."
"Yes Sir"
"Now you are located at our orientation academy for new officers in Lebong Cantoment area. You will remain here for two weeks before getting your duty at Siligurri. Wish you a good stay. Try to get accustomed to the heights and to the taste of local food."
"Sir, I am from Almora and already used to heights right from childhood"
"Good , Lt Singh, I am very pleased to know that " , Major replied with a smile. He was a handsome man, with penetrating eyes and well built body.
Naina was soon led to her room in officers dormitory by a female attendant. It was a big room but without the luxuries enjoyed by the faculty of KMA.
"Ma'am, dinner will be served at the cafeteria at 8 p.m sharp. You have to be dressed for the dinner."
Naina looked at her watch, , it was 6:30 pm. So she still had some time. Being a very organized person, she immediately took out her belongings from her suitcase and bags and piled them neatly in the wardrobe. She set aside a long black skirt, a white shirt and a black shawl for dinner.
She smiled as she unpacked her teddy from the bag and stroked its fur. No matter how old she gets, she could never part with it. Her moments of joy and sorrow were always shared with the toy. She set it on the bedside table. Then she lovingly unfolded a photoframe from underneath her clothes. This was gifted to her by Yudi before parting from KMA. It was a picture of herself and Captain Rajveer dancing on the night when Captain got engaged to Dr. Ritu. She put it beside the teddy bear.
"Sir , Are you still there somewhere ?"
Her whisper spiralled up in the air and went out the window overlooking the beautiful valley underneath. It stopped on the streets of Darjeeling where a loan man was walking . He was wearing a pair of worn out jeans and his face was covered with unkempt beards but his eyes were sharp. He was surrounded by a mob of children , all trying to get attention from him.
"Raju Chacha " , they yelled.
Raju Chaacha turned around. It seemed to him that he heard a voice calling him,"Sir,".
He looked near and far but noone could be seen, Only the light breeze softly swayed the mountain pines on the road side. He loved the smell of pines. He had been parentless and brought up in hillside convent schools. His life in army was also spent in hilly areas.
Children around him again began to scream and shout and tugged his woolen wrap.
"Kahani sunao na Chacha "
"Woh Naina 'Sepahi ki kahani '"
Rajveer's evening were spent telling stories to these children , In the morning he taught in a local school. Afternoons were busy with voluntary jobs , doing different types of chores for the village people, giving them first aid, taking them to local hospital , writing letters for some or teaching the youths football. But the evening were his favourite time. Then he told these children stories, fairy-tale stories , which were modified versions of his experience in his army-days. But the story which he loved the most to narrate and the children also loved the most to hear was the story of a female soldier named Naina who had saved him from ferocious bandits.
Soon the group reached the humble abode of Rajubhai. He asked the children to quietly sit down as he lit a oil lamp.
" Bahut din pahele ek pari jaisi ledki thi. ., uski badi , badi aankhen aur muskurate hue hothon sabko bahut pasand the'''''''"
"Kya naam tha uska "
"Naina ' "
