Part: 4

Mahi joined the college and excited to see her dreams fulfilling. She called Raaji everyday and shared her daily schedule in the college. Her friends, her teachers, projects, day-to-day experience in the college.
Raaji didn't forget anytime to praise Shabd in front of Mahi either in the phone or in person. Mahi's daily routine changed a little after joining the college. She wakes up early and does prayers and helps DM in prayer room. Arranges the breakfast table by 7A.M.; Gets ready and goes to college by 8. Pays attention every minute in full dedication till the last class. Comes home by 5 and freshen up by changing her outing clothes into casuals. Helps the chef at home to make dinner, giving instructions, arranging dinner table in different styles every night. Then she sits to finish her homework by 9 or 10. She makes notes to ask Shabd for clarifications. Shabd helps her whenever he is home in her homework.
Three months passed in similar routine and Mahi became familiar with all her work in and out the house. She worships Shabd as her teacher and makes sure to arrange everything for him for his work or daily routine. He is now allowed to sleep inside the room on her bed. But both sleep in different directions. Mahi is still not ready to go forward with her marriage. Shabd also never tried to go closer thinking to give some more time for her. After all she is now into her studies seriously.
Veena called and enquired about the life and Shabd smiled "Veena Di! Life is exciting. Now Mahi got used to the house and college. She is really a bright student. No wonder she loves to be a career oriented. She grasps the knowledge in no time. I really admire her interest in studies."
Veena smiled at his excitement "Shabd bhai! Yeh sab chodo. Pehley yeh batao tumhara personal life kaisey chalraha hai? Are you still sleeping in couch?"
Shabd blushed "Veena Di! Aap bhi na. We stay no more away from each other. We are now good friends. She doesn't hesitate to ask me for anything anymore now."
Veena sighed as she didn't get right response as Shabd defending his marital life. "Tum kush ho wahi kaafi hai Shabd! Let me know if you need anything from me. Goodluck, Take care" she hung up the phone.
Shabd shook his head sideways with a cheer on face "Di! Mujhey pata hai aap kya jaan na chahti hai. I will get my love soon. I'm still waiting her to come over her passion for studies. After all this helps me in future in my business too. "he thought in his mind thinking lovingly about his wife.
Brij Malhotra informed Sareen that Soni delivered a baby boy. Shabd took Mahi to the hospital. She is so excited to see the little cute baby boy in the cradle and took in her hands. They stayed for half an hour and all the time Mahi didn't allow anyone else to hold the baby. Raaji annoyed "Mahi! Abb baby ko mujhey dede, I also want to hold him. Kab tak tuhi godh mein logi?"
"Nahin doongi, tum baad mein lelena. He is so cute. Soni! Mein issey mere ghar leke jaoon?" Mahi asked innocently.
Mohini laughed "Tumbhi apni ek aulad ko janam de. Abb ussey theek sey sonedo. Chotey bachein Jada deir tak haaton mei rahe toh dhak jaatey hai."
Mahi pouted her lips "Maa! Aap bhi na, mujhey bachein pyari hai, apna ya paraya, kya farak padta hai? Mein toh kuch deir mein chali jaaoongi aur kal sey phir college mein busy hojaaoongi. Aap toh ghar mein hi rehtey hai na"
Everyone laughed and Shabd affectionately looked at Mahi "Toh issey bachein pasand hai, so it doesn't take much time to change her."
Ten days passed by again for Mahi with hectic classes and homework. She called Soni and Mohini everyday and enquired about the little baby. Brij invited both Khurana and Sareen family for the naming ceremony of Soni's child. Jeet and Soni named the boy 'Vivan" on Durga's choice.
The whole time Mahi spent her time with the kids. Raaji's son 'Vikrant' who is one year old now, Veena's daughter 'simran'who is two years old now and Soni's little baby.
"Bus abb Mahi ki godh bhi bhar jaaye sab ladkiyan apni sansaar mein sukhi rahey" Naani maasi blessed the girls with affection. All Brij's children were brought up under her supervision. Mahi loudly yelled at her "Naani maasi! Mujhey abb padhai puri karni hai. Yeh bacha vacha mujh sey nahin hoga. Aap yeh dua mat deejiye."
Raaji and Veena squeezed her cheeks either side "Kyon tujhey padhai rukney kaun ke raha hai? Bachon ko toh Shabd sambhal lega, tum bas paida karney mein ussey madat karo" they laughed teasing her.
"Fitteh muh tera! Sab ke sab ekhi jaisey hai. Har Waqt bachein, pati. Iskey alawa aur bhi cheejein hai iss duniya mein" she moved her left hand vigorously putting her right hand on waist. She angrily looked at them and walked away to the hall where Jeet, Veer, Shabd are having chit chat with other men.
Jeet noticed annoyed Mahi and walked to her "Kya hua Sali jee!! Itna gussa kiss per nikal rahi hai?"
Soni followed Mahi and informed by taunting her "Haan aapki yeh ladli ko samjhayiye ki apni bachon sey khelna bhi mazay ki baat hai" Jeet confused and Raaji and Veena winked at him. Jeet understood and walked Mahi to the couch. "In sab ki baat chodo aur yeh batao aapki padhai kaisey chal rahi hai?"
"Aap hi ek hai mujhey achesey samajh letey hai." She lovingly looked at him "Meri college is wonderful and I'm enjoying each and every minute." She started telling each every subject and chapters, teachers, whose teaching she likes more and why, how are the projects and how she exceeding the teacher's expectations, everything about her studies. She talked non-stop for an hour and half forgetting everyone else around them. Jeet encouraged her and Shabd surprised at his patience. "So, this is the way you gain trust from Mahi!!" he thought in his mind.

Part: 5

Shabd arranged for a party in a club inviting all his colleagues and employees on occasion of inauguration of his new designing clothes. Mahi felt excited to see his new designs. She is still in first year and learning best practices in apparel manufacturing coupled with understanding and application of Information Technology. She wants to know how Shabd's company is working on latest designing and the latest technologies. She asked Shabd many times to take to his company but Shabd always postponed taking her into his manufacturing unit. Though this is just a place to display his latest designs Mahi excited to get to see first before it comes into market. She can tell about this to his co-students next day in the college. She is more excited for that thought.


She wore a white cotton sari with light pearl beads covered under gold cage design around each pearl and matching ear hangings touching the shoulders. Shabd wanted to tell her to change into western clothes but he knew that Mahi loves Indian saris and likes to do specialization in Indian Sari designing.
She draws in her leisure time different designs along with possible color matching to the designs and saris. Shabd is more interested in western clothes, jeans and shows less interest on Mahi's designing though he never discouraged her.


Shabd introduced Mahi to everyone and asked her to inaugurate the show. Everyone liked the designs and commented on their individual favourite designs. Mahi keenly observed the material used in the designing the cloth, the button style and each and every technology they used to present the dress to the public. Shabd is impressed by her knowledge in understanding the technology than the appearance of the style.


After watching all designs, everyone headed to have dance along with drinks. Mahi refused politely to have drinks and settled in a corner. She liked watching all the guests rather dancing along with them. Some of Shabd's female colleagues requested him to dance with them and he honored the requests. Mahi praised his dancing skills and felt embarrassed when the ladies took a little over closeness. She applauded after he finished his dance.


Shabd asked Mahi to join him for dance and she refused as she doesn't know how to dance. Shabd offered to teach her and Mahi got up as no option.

Shabd put her left hand on his right shoulder, right hand in his left hand and he put his right hand around her waist. She shivered for touching him and his warm touch on her waist. A slight vibration passed from toe to head through her spine. She swallowed and he does too. He showed how to take initial steps staring deep into her eyes.


"Bus yeh kartey raho slowly seekh jaaogi." He stared into her eyes and Mahi lowered her eyes with shy. He pressed her waist to make her lift her eyes to him but she lowered again with shy as she noticed passion in his eyes. He tightened the grip and squeezed her fingers.


"Itna sharamili kyon ho, main sirf tumhara pati hoon. Iss dance mein ek dooserey ke aankon mein aaankh daal kar dekhna padta hai, sar jhukakar nahin." He whispered in her ears while taking small steps. Mahi became red with shy, anger, embarrassment. His touch giving her vibrations and breath heavy. Shabd's warm breath is touching her bare neck, face.
She is afraid if she falls for him. "Abb padhayi ke pehley aisi soch bhi mann mein mat lana" she scolded herself in mind and slowly moved away from him.

Shabd disappointedly looked at her way but felt happy for bringing feelings in her "So, she has feelings, bus aur kuch intezaar karna padega. I have to deal with her slowly."


Mahi got bored soon and headed home in her car. Shabd searched for her after a few minutes and called her on cell. "Mahi! Kahan ho? How could you go without telling me? I was worried here."


Kripa offended "Sorry Shabd! I was getting bored. And I have a test tomorrow."


Shabd sighed under breath as he can never force her for anything "kabb tum mujhey samjhogi, Mahi!!?"


He spent couple more hours till everyone left the place and headed home. He saw Mahi changed into night pajamas and is sleeping with her book in hand. She is shivering whenever cold breeze touching her but she was in deep sleep. Shabd stared at her for a while to admire her beauty and covered her with soft silky red blanket and kissed her forehead without touching her.


Next day after college Mahi went to Raaji's house as her in-laws went on Europe trip for two weeks. Soni is helping Raaji in the kitchen and welcomed Mahi. "Tu akeli aayi? Shabd kahan hai?"


Mahi confusingly looked at her "Shabd? Wo kahan se ayega? Mein toh college sey seeda chali aayi. Ussey batayi bhi nahin. Tum uskey barrein mein kyon poochrahi hai?"


Soni gave stare at her and gestured Raaji to deal with Mahi. Raaji smiled and reached Mahi "ussey isko kuch bhi kaam nahin hai, bus aisi hi poch rahi thi ki nayi nayi shadi huva hai akeli agayi thi na."


Mahi is not impressed much by her defensive reply but shook her head as she understood "Mein aagey sey ussey lekar aaoongi, magar ussey bahut kaam rehta hai. I don't want to stop coming coz of him. Kya banarahi ho?" she walked into kitchen for the aroma she is getting into her nostrils. Both sisters laughed and gave her gobhi paratha in a plate "Ley tumhari pasandgi parathas. Ageley baar Shabd ko bhi lekey ana."


Jeet entered "why don't you invite him formally? So, he doesn't get a chance to give excuses."


Soni agreed and thanked him for the idea. Raaji called him immediately and invited for dinner for following night. Mahi took the phone in the middle of conversation and informed she is in Raaji's house and will be backing home soon.


Jeet and Mahi again talked about their common subjects and they forgot about time. Raaji and Soni became busy with kids and arranging for diner. Mahi is surprised to see Shabd standing at the door and watching them seriously.

"Shabd! Aap kab aye they? I was totally forgotten time and we are busy in discussing about my studies." Shabd shook his head as he understood and shook hands with Jeet. Veer joined them at dinner and three men immersed in their business talks soon. Mahi also kept participating in their conversation in between.


"Tumhey business acha lagta hai?" Shabd asked while going back home. Mahi smiled and shook her head.


"Kal sey mere saat kaam karogi?" Shabd is hoping to see her more time now if she agrees.


Mahi smiled with excitement rolling her big eyes, "Haan" again got disappointed "nahin..ab nahin..pehley meri padhai finish karney do baad mein aapka saat kaam jaroor karungi."


Shabd smiled as agreeing and thought "three more years, hope she understands the meaning of marriage before that."


Mahi finished her another 6 month college and got summer vacation. Shabd planned to take her for summer vacation to any cold place. He asked "Mahi! Hum shadi ke baad kahin nahin gaye they. If you are interested we can go to Germany, Swiss, Vancouver, anywhere in the world."


Mahi didn't show any interest "Nahin, Shabd! I prefer to stay here. Agar aap jaana chahey toh hum yahin kahin lonowala, Goa, shimla, Darjeeling jaa saktey hai. Raaji didi, Veena di bhi plan kar rahey hai. Hum uskey saat jaa saktey hai. Nain toh Daddyji Kashmir jaa rahey hai. Hum bhi uskey saat jaa saktey hai." She doesn't show any interest in being alone with Shabd.
Shabd sighed "Okey, dekhengey"


Mahi understood his disappointment "yeh kaisa museebat modliya mainey? Abb summer kaisey kategi. Hope. He doesn't again raise the topic. Iskey saat akeley? No way, Agar kuch gadbad hojaayetoh? Bachein vachein, nahin main kabhi nahin raaji hongi. I have to achieve what I wanted to be. Daddyji mera padhai nahin karwadiya. Yeh chance phir kahi nahin milegi. I have to concentrate only on my studies and later on career. Abb kahan umar bita jaa raha hai?"


Shabd became busy with his usual business as Mahi didn't show any interest in going alone with him. She took permission from Shabd to join her family to visit her far relatives in Kashmir. Mohini's maayka belong to Kashmir and they quite often visit the northern state.


Raaji and Soni also joined alone with kids and all three sisters enjoyed the whole month of summer in Kashmir. Shabd called often Mahi to find out her whereabouts. Mahi gets nothing to speak to him and keeps silent while Shabd tells about his business, colleagues, latest designs, fashions. His future plans when Mahi joins him also comes into the conversation quite often thought it takes another three years to implement.


Raaji didn't forget to remind Mahi about her marriage and Shabd and his love towards her. She never asked Mahi directly about her marital life but as an elder sister and more experienced married woman she noticed Mahi keeps Shabd in distance in bed room. She didn't want to force her to change her mind as it may worsen the situation between them. She slowly kept giving hints about her behavior with Shabd.


Mahi quite understands whatever Raaji tells her but keeps silent in front of her. She thinks about Shabd when she goes to bed as she got used to him beside her. She thinks about him whenever she is left alone.


"Mujhey pata hai Raaji di! Aap kya kehna chahti hai. But my first preference is my studies. Second I should become something to make my own identity in the society. Then I'll think about Shabd and life with him. Tab tak ussey wait karna hi padega. I never asked him to marry me. It's his choice to love me, marry me. Wo mujhey ek baar bhi pucha nahin mein kya chahti hoon. Agar mein kissi aur ko chahti toh?" she defends her behavior with Shabd.

Part: 6

Mahi returned from Kashmir and started getting ready for her college. Shabd was out of town by the time she returned. He was on international tour for two weeks which ends next a week.

Mahi disappointed and realized how much she is missing him. She slept with his picture on her side imagining him on the bed. She missed him in the morning wishes, at the breakfast table. She is used to his out of town tours but now she expected him in the house as soon as her return. She open her books but her thoughts going around Shabd. "Ek mahina mein aisi halat hogai toh phir aagey kaisey chalega? I should get rid of this." She thought and concentrated on her studies.

"Hello! Mahi! How was your trip? Maayka walon sey enjoy kiya? How are they?" Shabd enquired and Mahi gave sharp looks as she felt sarcasm in his voice. His eyes showing genuine enquiry and she smiled at him and explained how she enjoyed.

Shabd gave brief update of his trip too as she would be prospective business partner. Mahi started doing Shabd's personal work like taking out the office dress out before his shower, getting ready with his tie checking if shoes are ready with polish, his briefcase everything before she leaves for college.
First day Shabd is surprised for his dress out ready for him and asked Mahi if she did it. "Haan, meiney kiya. Aaj sey mein hi nikaloongi. Fashion clothing business kartey hai toh aap bhi different styles pehann na chahiye aur mujhey bhi adat hojayegi in cheezon mein."

Shabd liked her interest in his things and didn't stretch much about her choice. Now Mahi knew everything about Shabd such as about his interests, likes, dislikes, tastes, everything. Mahi is enjoying doing Shabd's things.

Mahi is seriously involved in her studies now as her semester exams are approaching. Shabd makes tea for her and reads her books while she is listening whenever she gets headache after constant reading of the books.
"Mahi! Bus abb bahut hogaya hai. Aaj tea nahin milega aur tumhey aaj ke liye padaiyi band karna hoga," Shabd sweetly warns her to wind up books around 11.
She pleads him to allow her to study for some more time "Please, Shabd! Bus ek hi chapter rehgaya hai. Khatam karney deejiye. Aaj tak pura class main mein first aayi thi and I want to keep it forever. Bus aur adha ganta, Please!!"

Shabd sighes "Dekho tum jaagey toh mujhey koyi objection nahin hai, but I have to get up early for my meeting. If you don't sleep now you will be awake the whole night, I know you very well. And in the morning you will complain about headache. So, abb sojaao aur mein subah 5 o'clock uthaloonga and you can continue your preparation." He removes her books and forces her to tuck under blanket and switches off the light.
Shabd looks at Mahi after stretching on his side of bed. Mahi reciprocates and turns other side to distract his looks and covered herself completely under blanket. Shabd sighed to stop his urge to pull her into his arms. He rubbed his forehead and eyes and turned opposite side to get sleep.

Mahi finished her exams and relaxing in her room by reading a magazine on Fashion Technology. Shabd came with excitement "Mahi! You got a week vacation now, right? Chalo, mere saat Mauritius trip mein, tumhey bhi aana padega. It helps you in studies as well as vacation bhi hojaayega?"

Mahi looked at him suspiciously and Shabd sat beside her "Trust me, this is not my plan. We have a conference on Fashion Technology. After this we might go to US or Europe for the following conference. It will be useful for you too." Mahi asked some more questions about the conference and satisfied that it is worth going.

They reached Sir Seewoosagur Ramgoolam Airport, Mauritius next evening. The weather is bright and sunny. Shabd and Mahi relaxed in the hotel room having their evening tea and snacks.

Mahi is admiring the beauty of Mauritius from the balcony of her room. Their bedroom back door is faced the ocean. Shabd is checking his emails and watching her innocent excitement in the middle. His heart is skipping beats to see his beloved wife so close with no one around them. He slowly walked out of the room into balcony. Mahi's loose strands are flowing for the breeze through ocean. Her long hair braided stood in right place on her hips. Her light lemon yellow chiffon sari platted in the front showing all her curves inviting Shabd to relish her. He decided to take advantage of the trip to help her open herself out of shell. He settled his throat and approached her and circled his hands around her and rested his chin on her shoulder.

"Kain ghoomney jaayengey? There are wonderful sightseeing places here. Today I take you to one place, Trust me, you just love it. Okay?" Mahi startled for his sudden closeness and removed his hands from her waist. She turned to him with a smile and shook her head by twisting her lips. Her breath became heavy with his stares and lowered her eyes to escape from it. Shabd smiled "She has feelings!!"

Both got ready quickly and took a taxi to reach Chamarel. It is an undulating landscape of different and contrasting shades of colours. The different shades of blue, green, red and yellow are apparently the result of the erosion of the volcanic ash. The neighbouring waterfalls of Chamarel rise from the moors and the native plant life. The site possesses a rare beauty.

The taxi took winding road which leads from Case Noyale village to the coloured earths of Chamarel. Shabd pulled Mahi close and she gave a forced smile as she doesn't want him to be so close to her. He took her hand in his hand and dropped the other around her pressing her to his body. Mahi shivered and tried pull out her hand. "Hum donon pati patni hai, Mahi! Itni door bhaitney ki jaroorat nain."

"I need sometime, please!" Mahi swallowed and turned her face to see out of the window. The taxi reached Case Noyale Village to the coloured earths of Chamarel taking winding roads.

"Wow!!" Mahi is excited to see the colorful sand dunes and ran to feel it. Shabd stood at one place admiring her excitement. She took the sand in her hands "Shabd! This would be perfect design for a sari. And the blouse would be multi color matching to the sari and back open with different color beads, and the sari can have small mirrors on the pallu, and…." she started explaining her design admiring the beauty of the colors. Shabd smiled and thought "It's not easy to take her into arms. She is totally into her ambitions."

From there they went to see the waterfalls. Then the weather changed cloudy and anticipating showers. Shabd asked to go back and Mahi insisted to stay for some time to enjoy the nature beauty. She picked some wild flowers though Shabd warned her "Mahi! Wo phool room mein janey tak bhi nahin rahega, why do you want to pluck them?"

When they are returning to the taxi the whole sky became dark and gusty winds started blowing from the valley.

Mahi stood and watched the way the winds are coming from. Shabd felt romantic and cuddled her "yeh bahut romantic lag rahi hai na?" Mahi is totally emerged into admiring the beauty near the falls, the sounds of falls and wind exciting her and she didn't notice Shabd's hands around her. She shook her head and showed far in the sky "Look that, Shabd! That beautiful colors in the sky. The dark grey and light silver liner of twilight. We can have that color combination also in our designing." Shabd looked at her disappointedly "Yeh kya? I was talking about romance and she is thinking about designs? Yeh sudregi nahin." He sighed and took her hand dragging to the taxi as any time it might burst into heavy rain.

By the time they reached the taxi heavy thunders and hales started and Mahi and Shabd got half wet. Mahi is shivering for the wetness and Shabd pulled her close to make her warm. Mahi immediately noticed his passion and moved away from him covering her body with her sari ends.

Shabd sighed "Trust me, Mahi! I don't take advantage of the situation, okay? Keep warm yourself, Common, come close to me" he pulled her close with force and Mahi kept quite as she badly needs some warmth.

As soon as they reached the room Mahi changed into her night dress and tuck herself into the bed. Shabd smiled and took his laptop to work for a while. After an hour or two he finished his work and reached bed. He noticed Mahi still awake and bent on her to check "Soyi nahin?" he turned her his side. Mahi is afraid and tried to turn away again and he stopped her.

"Mahi! Look into my eyes. You asked me for some time and I honour it. I never force you, Okay? Comon, cheer up. Be friendly with me. You don't have to be afraid of me, trust me." Mahi looked into his eyes and filled tears, "I'm sorry, Shabd! I..I'm not ready for this. I have to finish my studies and make a name in fashion world. Then I'll be yours forever. Please cooperate with me."

Shabd shook his head "I'll. I'll wait for you. Till you come to me on your own. I promise. Okay?"
Mahi shook her head and he asked her to smile. He kissed her forehead and bid goodbye after seeing her cheerful face.
