Part 3

Later that evening Maithilli was still fuming over Adi's treatment of her. "That jerk! Just what does he think of himself?" Mukti sat staring elsewhere-distracted thinking. Maithilli looked at her, "Hello, I'm talking to you." Mukti looked at her confused. "What were you thinking about?" "I was thinking about how to solve your problem, of course," she quickly said. "Oh, really," she smirked. "So what have you thought?" "Um, we can talk about that later, come on, get ready quickly we need to go." Maithilli groaned. "I'm supposed to go to a party." Om knocked on the door. "Are you two ready to go?" "Yeah, we're just coming." "Jaldi karo."

Prerna was busy in the kitchen doing the final touches to the meal she was cooking. She went to the bottom of the stairs and called, "Prem, Adi, they'll be here in a minute, hurry up." Adi came sauntering down the stairs and smiled lazily at his mother. "Chill out mom!" She pulled his ear playfully. "Ow!" he yelled. "Chill mom da bhacha!" She smiled at the look on his face. "Who's coming anyway Mom?" Prem asked as he came down then laughed at Adi who was rubbing his ear. "Your dad's business colleague and his wife and two daughters. I think they go to the same college as you two." Hearing that two girls were coming, the boys cheered up considerably. "Prem, what are wearing?" she added looking at him. He was wearing typical UD clothes all really baggy stuff. "You could have at least worn good clothes today!" There was a knock at the door and Prem and Adi sighed with relief that at least their mother would forget everything now. She raised her eyebrows knowing what they were thinking and told Prem to open the door.

The guests are of course the Agarwal family! He greeted Om and Parvati by touching their feet and they blessed him. He then turned his attention to the girls and was shocked to see Mukti and Maithilli! Mukti gave him a glare and walked past him without saying anything whereas Maithilli smiled which soon faded when she walked in and saw Adi. He was also surprised to see her and smiled cheekily while she was trying to control her anger. Prerna noticed her expression and asked if she was ok while Adi laughed. "Ji aunty, I'm fine thanks." Anurag arrived and greeted everyone who were now seated. Maithilli was sitting next to Mukti and was scowling at Adi and Prem who were directly opposite them. The parents chatted away merrily not noticing the tension. "What's the matter with you and her?" muttered Prem to Adi. "She looks like she wants to kill you!" Adi hissed back, "That's the girl I was telling you about, you know the one who I argued with in the cafeteria. "Oh right."

Maithilli was moaning to Mukti, " Why do we have to be here?" she whispered. "And did this house have to be where that jerk lives?" Mukti rolled her eyes. "I know how you feel but what can we do?" "Uh we could try to make some excuse to leave," suggested Maithilli. "Really, like what?" Maithilli was about to respond when her phone started ringing. Everybody looked at her and she quickly apologised and excused herself. Parvati sighed as she watched her leave and said, "I'm sorry. This girl is just attached to her phone I told her to leave it at home." "Koi baat nahin," smiled Prerna. "These two are the same, they can't stay one minute without their phones."

Maithilli came back and stood near the doorway looking suspicious. Parvati knew that look straight away and got up to talk to her. "Mama, voh meri dost Anjali ka phone tha. She's having a party and really wants me to be there." Adi was listening and suddenly said, "You know Anjali?" She turned around and threw him a nasty look. "Was I speaking to you?" "Maithilli!" Parvati warned. "Ok but please can I go? I wouldn't ask if it wasn't important." "How can a party be important?" Adi glanced at his mother and said, "See mom, she wants to go to this party so can you please let me go?" Prerna frowned at her son and Anurag laughed. "Ok, I have an idea. Why don't all you kids go to this party and us adults will stay here and enjoy." "Lekin Anurag…" started Prerna. "Prerna, at least this way the kids can get to know each other better." All four of them found this highly amusing but hid it. "Is that ok with you Om?" Anurag asked. Om cleared his throat he normally didn't approve of his daughters going out but decided to allow it. "Yes, I suppose so." Adi wasted no time and made for the door with Prem following. Mukti reluctantly stood up and an impatient Maithilli pulled her out of the door. "Come on let's go!" Parvati shook her head and all of them wondered if they had made the right decision in letting them go.

Part 4

When they arrived at the party Anjali was very happy to see them and greeted them all. Adi left to meet Priya full of apologies, Prem wandered off to be with a group of friends and Maithilli left with Anjali. Mukti felt out of place and thought, 'what am I doing here? This really isn't my kind of place.' Suddenly, as she stood with her arms folded she heard a voice behind her. "Mukti, is that you?" She turned to see a friend from one of her classes. "Oh, hi Arjun!" He smiled at her (he's played by Eijaz Khan lol). "Wow, it really is you," he teased. "I didn't expect to see you here." Mukti felt offended for a moment then smiled, he was after all telling the truth. " I know, I was kinda forced into coming. It's a long story." "Well why don't you tell me about it? After all I have nothing better to do!" he chuckled. "Hey!" exclaimed Mukti and they both laughed.

Prem was busy flirting with some random girl lol when he noticed where Mukti was and that she was enjoying herself with a guy! His eyes narrowed. 'Why do I care what she's doing? No… I don't care.' The girl (can't think of any name) touched his cheek and asked him if he was ok. "Yeah, I'm fine," he answered. "Let's dance." "Ok", she replied.

Adi walked over to the bar to get a drink just as soon as someone else did. "Orange juice." "Beer." They both spoke at the same time. The bartender looked up. "You again!" Maithilli stared angrily at him. "I was here first." "No, I was. Why do you insist on following me everywhere hmm? It was bad enough that you came to my house and now here," Adi retorted. "Listen, I didn't come to your house by choice and we're only here because of me." "Whatever," he muttered. She turned her attention back to the bartender who looked very amused 😆 and got an idea. "Hey, I'll have an orange juice and he wants a beer ok." "Yes ma'am," he replied. Adi was surprised but decided not to say anything. The bartender put the drinks down and he was just about to reach for his drink when Maithilli picked it up. "Here you are Adi." She smiled then poured the contents all over him. 😆 He was furious. "How dare you!" he shouted. 😡 "Aww, it was just an accident. Serves you right for this morning, doesn't it!" She laughed at him, as he stood dripping wet and walked away. Priya came over to him a few moments later trying to suppress her laughter when she saw him. "Adi, what was all that about? What did you do to Maithilli?" "Do you find this funny? Just leave me alone." "Fine!" She stormed off but Adi didn't seem to notice! 'She's going to regret making an enemy of me. I won't leave her,' he fumed to himself. Maithilli gave him a sarcastic wave from where she was with her friends who were all laughing.

Although Mukti was enjoying Arjun's company she felt uneasy as though she was being watched. She glanced up and saw Prem looking at her from where he was dancing. As soon as their eyes met he immediately turned away unable to understand why he couldn't stop looking at her. "Did you want to dance?" Arjun asked, taking hold of her hand after noticing where she was looking. "No, it's ok. I think I'm going to go home now." She pulled her hand out of his and he looked disappointed but didn't argue with her. At that moment Prem came over and said, "Come on let's go." "What?" she said. " I said we're going." "And you think because you want to go, I do as well?" Arjun looked at her surprised. "But Mukti you just said…." "Just a minute am I asking you?" asked Prem. "Just leave it Arjun. Fine let's go." She looked around for Maithilli. "Maithilli, come on." She looked surprised but walked over to them. "He," she said pointing at Prem, " wants to go, so come on." "But.." Maithilli started. "Did you hear me?" Maithilli sighed but nodded. "We'll wait outside for you." She looked at him defiantly and went outside. He watched her walk out with a satisfied smile and then went to find Adi. "Hey, what happened to you?" he asked, noticing his clothes were wet. "That stupid Maithilli." "Uh huh. Well looks like she got her revenge then!" "Oh, no. This isn't over yet. Not by a long shot." Adi stood grimly. "Ok come on let's go." "What now?" Adi said. "Yes now." Just then the girl Prem had been flirting with all night came running over. "Are you going?" she simpered. "Yes. Um, I'll call you," he said and he hurriedly dragged Adi out. The girl stood there thinking that she hadn't even given Prem her number! 😆

In the car on the way home each of them were very silent lost in their own thoughts. Adi was plotting revenge; Maithilli was happy she got her own back; Prem was confused about his feelings of seeing Mukti with someone else; Mukti was wondering why Prem had wanted to leave so early.
