Love & Hate
“Now you have started living with her?” Somesh stared at the steaming idlis Pramila placed before him for breakfast as he wondered which chutney to attack first
She was a more than perfect wife for him, Aatreya realized
She never raised her voice around him, she never argued, she was very duty bound, despite being a career woman
“I don’t think you are going to like the answer I have” Aatreya ate the delish idlis after blowing on them a couple times
Mrunalini inhaled idlis, she could eat them every meal
He missed her, though he was with her two hours ago
“Your son is here, you are at her flat”
Apurva was asleep, Mihir was off to work
Pramila looked at him from inside the kitchen, as Somesh’s head was bent
There was a plea in her eyes not to aggravate Somesh more
“”I wont” he shook his head irritated
Somesh lifted his head up to see who his son was talking to
Aatreya pretended to look at his phone
“You do voice dictation?”
“Sometimes” Atty mumbled, trying not to get caught
“Its not a good look in front of your son, if the father goes to another woman’s house”
“That’s my point, she is not, and you wont like the answer” Atty was furious
“Your mother sat her down and handed her the coconut ceremonially so everything is official?”
“I am hoping it is, I sure don’t like going to Chembur every night”
“U can stop u know”
“THAT’S your solution?” Aatreya raised his voice
“Attu” Pramila hissed
“NOW you want to use my nickname?”
Somesh did not know who to glare at
“You both have made up your minds?” Somesh was jealous
“I conducted the welcome pooja for her, I told you”
“No you hid it fromme, stole the womens’ phones and later told me at night to save face”
“You know what we will keep going in circle, Amma you wanted to go to Murthy Mami’s house I can give you a ride” Aatreya got up with breakfast barely touched
Somesh was heartbroken
He loved his kids dearly
He choked up when he saw his son leave hungry
“Amma nanage meeting ide (I have a work call) Aatreya mumbled texting on his phone
“Dayavittu hodisi nannu Priya” (Please sit my dear son) Somesh’s voice cracked
“Hasivilla” “I am not hungry” Aatreya bolted his room door gently
Somesh ate quietly
Pramila picked up her son’s plate
“Sacrifice our son to your religious rituals and principles” Pramila hissed
Apurva’s door clicked open
“I am sorry, Prami”
“Dharmavannu tanna maguviniginta heccu prītisuva yāvudē vyakti nanage tiḷidilla” (Don’t know a man who loves religion more than his son”
“Pa, ready to go for a walk” Apurva was cheerful, not even a trace of last night’s fight
“haudu haudu” (yes yes)
“Aatreya ellidaane?”
Pramila was softly weeping in the kitchen as she rinsed some dirty dishes
“Umm… meeting” Somesh was ashamed
“I don’t know how he can work so hard” Apurva sat and yawned first giggled later
“Amma…” she cooed
“Ondu Nimisha” she mumbled
“what happened?” Apurva was shocked
“Umm.. she is busy” Somesh squirmed
Apurva got up and walked briskly to her brother’s office
“Atty?”
He looked up from the keyboard, and was startled since he had lied to them he had a call
“What happened”
“Nothing” he shrugged
“Your sambar and chutney cups are all full… plate’s gone” Apurva raised her voice emotionally
Somesh turned in panic
“You hate him more than anything in the world don’t you?” Apurva began to cry as she accused her Pa
