Somesh slowly climbed the steps of the Chemburflat, he had sneakily gone off to Mendy’s in the evening to scope out where Mrunalinilives. Mendy had told him she lives in the society across the street

He didn’t know what he was doing but he wantedto visit

It was 8:17 PM Mrunalini was making dinner,Dhru was back for the night since it was a Friday night, Aatreya had droppedhim off at 5, and stayed until after 6 when Mrunalini had returned fought withher made up in the kitchen as Dhru showered, and then innocently went off tothe bunk bed to take a nap, she had kicked him out at 8 citing “Ur mother willnot like it”

“She will be fine” he chuckled

“Why do you bring so many clothes to my house?”she stared at the large bag sitting on top of the washing machine”

“I am hoping you can do my laundry and cookfor me” he said with a straight face

She just smiled and shook her head going intothekitchen

“Want to come over for dinner Sunday night?”

“Why?”

“We are hoping as Apu approaches her cycleend, she might get sick if all goes well we just want to eat good food beforethat, because Amma will only make dal or rasam rice” he laughed

She looked at him wistfully

“is there special food?”

He nodded and smiled gently

“I guess we have too in Marathis, fish andchicken cooked with certain spices but not others… lost of ghee for fat babies”

“Did u eat that way?”

“Umm.. only when I was at a friend’s house, I didn’tknow Sai then,” she smiled

“There is always a next time” he smiled andheld his breath

And watched her turn a beautiful red

“I havea 10 year old, I cant have another one”

“Havent spoken with an attorney after my divorcefrom Mitra but I think we are allowed to have as many kids as we want” he saidthat with a straight face

She turned ever more red when she realized heis mocking her

“I want children” he said

“How many?” she asked

“I am not giving you all the answers beforeyou even agree to marry me”

The ring sat in a box in a locked drawer under the living roomwindow

“OK u can text me when u have more”

“Really?” his expression tightened

She reached for his elbow he dodged

“ I am done fightin for the day I will be backSunday”

“Atty” she ran after him

He was shocked to see her come after him

He paused turned to stare

“Are u staying?” she smiled

“Did u actually chase after me? He asked in shock

“Hmm” she nodded

“Wow” he sighed

“Don’t be mad” she whispered

“I will be… u can pay me back later” he saidsoftly but with a twinkle in his eyes

20 or so minutes later, Somesh Rao stood inher door step

Kirti looked on curiously

Mrunalini smiled nervously and muttered friend

The boys peeked too “Can we play?” they asked

She nodded

“Dhruuuuuu ikada aa” she screeched

He came out and almost ran into his grandpa

“I am not going” he shouted

Mrunalini looked up from her phone… she hadtexted Atty “Your Dad is here”

“DHRUUU nakko” she hissed dragging him

“Aai u come too” he began to cry

“I am not here to take you” Somesh smilednervously

“Go play with your friends” Mrunaliniwhispered pushing her son toward Sahasre flat

He was astonished

He did not waste a second he was gone

“Please come in” she mumbled nervously

“Umm.. sorry I came to Mendy’s”

“Oh? I heard Lynn had to have elbow surgery”

Lynn didn’t talk anymore only mendycommunicated with her

“Yes… to see her” he nodded lying

“Can I bring something cold?”

“U are cooking dinner?”

“Yes poha for him and mango dal for me”

“tasty” he smiled nervously

“Aaty.. Aat.. Aatreya just left”

“I came to talk to you” he smiled

“Oh?” she sat and pulled a cushion to her lap

“I have been very unhappy recently…” Someshmumbled embarrassed

“Umm..”

“We come from a long line of scholars andpundits” he sighed

“Can you promise me you will allow Jayadrithawill follow all that?”

She looked at him confused “Umm.. sure” “Imean”
