Today's episode was a good juxtaposition of 2 mothers.
On one side we have Satrupa: determined, stubborn, and broken. She will do anything to bring Anami back, no matter how illogical. But at the same time she doesn't realize the real reason that Anami left. She blames other (hence the precap). She'll do anything to ensure Anami comes back and she'll punish those who helped Anami run away, but she doesn't realize and understand that she's the root of the problem.
On the other hand is Pagli Pandityan: determined, strong, and trusting. She believes in Anami. Yes she has her moments of weakness, but that's how a mother is. Fiercely protective of her own child. It doesn't matter that Anami wasn't born from her, Anami is hers. She trusts Anami and is strong in that sense as well.
Both mothers' worlds revolve around Anami, but so differently. Satrupa wants to bring Anami back and "imprison" her in her "love". Pagli Pandityan is willing to let Anami go where she wants because she knows her love will protect Anami and a child needs to be free. Notice how I put imprison and love in quotes for Satrupa. Satrupa is possessive. She wants Anami to stay in front of her at all times claiming she loves her daughter, but does she really?
Both mothers are also determined. Satrupa is determined to bring Anami back, Pagli Pandityan is determined to keep Anami safe. Again the difference. Satrupa doesn't care that Anami is in danger in LM. She just wants Anami back because she thinks she can protect Anami. PP just wants the best for Anami and wants her to be safe wherever she goes.
This is the juxtaposition. Two mothers, two different ideals, two different cultural and social backgrounds, two different thinkings, two different personalities. And yet in a way both are right and both are wrong.
Satrupa is right in believing that nothing has happened to Anami and that she'll be back. In this belief she's willing to go as far as needed. Yet everything else is wrong in her thinking. PP is right in thinking that Anami is now safe and she doesn't need to go back to LM to get into trouble again. But she's wrong in thinking that Anami's motive of revenge is right and Anami needs to do as she wants.
Moving on from the mothers, I want to comment on a few other characters today.
- Baldev - Two things I noted today. First he tried to stop Satrupa from walking on burning coals. That was nicely portrayed. There's concern in his voice, but at the same time he was distant enough to show that while he cares, he still doesn't love Satrupa to hold her back, grab her, stop her madness. I liked how he was close enough to touching her, but still didn't. They don't have that husband-wife relationship and it was nicely portrayed. Second when he saw Anami, there was no shock or anger on his face. It was just surprise, but almost a happy surprise. Somewhere he has come to accept Anami, but he still doesn't say it.
- Pujan - Ah finally we got a glimpse of the old Pujan babu. I was starting to worry that we would never see the old Pujan again, but today we did. Yes! Yes! Yes! I like Indian villains more than heroes because villains get so much more content and characterization. And I was missing the comical villain Pujan so much. Glad to see him back.
- Poonam - Even if it was just a smile, the way her face lit up on seeing Anami was so sweet. In this whole family if there's someone who loves Anami and really protects Anami, it's Poonam. I was teary-eyed the day Anami ran away because of Poonam and Narottam, and now mera dil garden garden ho gaya Poonam ki smile dekh kar.
Narottam - I left Narottam to the end because I have so much to say about his brief appearance in the precap today. He said it. He said it! He said it!!!!!!!! Narottam has openly renounced Sudha. This is the perfect timing for it. With Ladoo's kidnapping, Narottam had slowly started to turn on Sudha. Then Purushottam gets killed and Sudha starts scaring Ladoo more and we see Narottam distancing himself from Sudha more. Yesterday he cried thinking Anami was dead and angrily left Sudha, slamming the door in her face when she laughed at Anami's death. Now thinking about his mindset, he's seen the worst of his mother. His mother, who was brought into the house and promised a better life by his younger step-sibling Anami. His mother, who he saw as the victim. His mother, who claimed Narottam and Purushottam are everything for her. Everything he thought about his mother is different from everything he's seen. On the other hand, there's the LM wasis and Anami. They are who they claim to be. Yes LM hates him, but they do so openly. Yes Anami cares for him and she does so openly. There's nothing hidden. When she asked him to sign the paperwork, he saw the pain in her eyes on having to choose one brother over the other. When she ran away he saw the pain etched on her face on having to leave, but he understood it. She's who she said she is. For Narottam to finally come out and renounce Sudha, it's a big step. It means Sudha's days in LM are numbered. There's still a long way for Narottam to go from openly renouncing Sudha to openly revealing her plans and finally proving that Satrupa didn't do anything that Anami blames her for doing, but still he's heading that way. And I'm loving it!
Of all the characters in RKC, I feel the CVs have given the best characterization and character curve to Narottam.
