Sorry, I am going backwards. But when I saw the episodes of the first two days, 2 things came into my mind. Baldev was spot on when he pointed out Sat's flaws which she wants to escape from. She herself knows that they r her mistakes, but as is human nature, she is unable to accept them and then go beyond. When she does so, her redemption will begin. It'd b interesting to see if it happens next week. Both Ma-Beti r in shock; seems so from the precap and yesterday's episodes. How and what will happen needs to be seen next week.

Another thing was Sudha Baldev scene. She pointed out the flaws of the mother in Sat forgetting she herself is doing the same to Narottam. But she used her femininity beautifully to make Baldev see Sat's flaws and wean him away from her. Maybe the track will move in that line. Some of the FB photos seem to suggest Anami back in LM. But how? If it is still forced or whether the girl is in shock and totally bending down to Sat and coming back or for vengeance - I am not sure. But if is any of the above, I wonder how they will progress the story. It is still in loops with no outward movement. I hope they don't delay further just to cater to SP's needs. Last week AA scenes were forced; I think they moved up this week. Hopefully, they continue with the same momentum next week. I want a fast paced but taut storyline and screenplay.

Pongal and bogi vazthugal . My best pongal best wishes to all of you here.RKC seems to be moving ahead after all. Happy that Pathak are safe.I am a firm believer in Karma philosophy. God will and ought to reward good deeds and punish bad deeds. Looks like it is Satrupa's turn to face her Karma, followed by Anami. Off course Pujan and Sudha. I will enjoy watching the last two.

@mangothyme thanks for pointing that out. Mahavir Phogat was authoratarian, but he made his daughters see a new world. I still remember the dialogue he tells to his daughter before the final. If you win a silver you just became a name, but if you win a gold you will dreams to many girls away from marriage and motherhood alone.

But the problem with Satrupa is that instead of highlighting what Anami can do if she takes up RS, how she can benefit the families, how she can execute the ideologies of Pandit and Pandithayen in bringing a good society through just governance of a firm, she is making her tie town to that useless reeti, neeti and parampara of LM. The authority which wants you to hold back to regressive ways is no good.

It is not enough Anami knows English or wears fashionable dress, she cannot have the gender bias of Sat and unless Sat explains herself why the girll, there is no need for Anami to tie down that reeti, neeti and parampara that reeks of patriarichy which Sat herself is also party too.

Happy Lohri and Pongal and Makar Sankranti everyone. One clarification, when is Lohri actually celebrated - day b4 Pongal or same day? I am not sure of it.

What a country is ours - so many festivals in so many states. Yet in effect they r all the same. And I am not talking of Hindu festivals alone. All these bind us in one thread - the thread of love and humanity. Let us strive to understand the spirit of all these and make this world a more humane place to live in.

Generally 14th. Actually 3 day harvest festival - On Makar Sankranti we have the main Pongal celebrations. The 2nd day is one which we call Kaaka Podi, Kannu Podi (actually it has another name which I don't know 😛) wherein women offer food to crows as a prayer for our parents and siblings (Usha or Shruthi or Mangothyme can tell the name correctly); I think it is maatu Pongal and then kaanum Pongal where beaches will see a wave of humanity (I don't know the reason for that). Lohri is the day when we celebrate Bhogi.

Actually TN has NE monsoons; so rice gets harvested and this is offered to Sun God - that's the significance. Bhogi is the day when people discard the old and new begins on Pongal (new month starts on this day). That's basically the significance.

My knowledge of Tamil culture is very limited; so a big sorry to anyone from there. For proper clarifications I am sure any one of the above three will give u correctly.

Pongal is long drawn. The first day is Bhogi when all old farming accessories that need to be replaced are discarded and a bonfire was lit to the beat of drums .

Day 2 is Pongal and that's the day the freshly harvested rice and dal is cooked in a pot with Jagger y and milk. As many freshly harvested vegetables are cooked. The pot in which the Pongal is cooked has the sun and moon drawn on it and fresh turmeric is tied to the neck of the pot. The Pooja is done outdoors and Surya with his consorts are thanked for the bountiful harvest and welcomed into the Uttarayan phase sugarcane forms a part of the worship.

The next day is devoted to cattle and birds that have aided the cultivation. Cows and bulls are decorated and puja offered to them.

In Chennai the next day is set aside sightseeing.

This is how traditionally Pongal was celebrated from 13TH January.

Adding to what moonwearer has posted, Pongal is indeed a long drawn 3 day festival. But very significant. I think it is truly a very secular festival. Celebrated by all Hindus in this part of India with equal fervour irrespective of caste or creed.

First day is Mattu pongal and bogi old things are burnt this day. Symbolising the herald the new harvest with new energy and fervour , burning old prejudices , sufferings. Cows and bullocks which hellp the farmer in cultivation are worshipped on this day. Puran poli is prepared for this feaal

The next day is makara sankranthi, pongal. Uttarayana punya kalam begins on this day. The sun crosses the tropic of cancer. Sun god is worshipped on this day. Two kinds of pongals , sweet and Namkeen are prepared. Vegetables to be used on this day are all grown under ground like potato, sweet potato, Arabi etc.

In Karnataka there is one more tradition of exchanging a mixture of ground nut, jaggery, dry coconut, and til is with nearest and dearest ones. Reassuring the mutual friend ship and relationship.

The third day is Kanu pongal. Dedicated for brothers and sisters. Similar to Bhai dooj during Diwali in Nothern India. It is also a Thanks giving day for the birds which bring about cross pollination. Rice is mixed with bright colours like yellow(turmeric) , red KumKUm. , to attract birds. Daughters chant 'Kannu podi vaithen' meaning this is for the calf, 'Kaka podi vaithen' meaning this is for the Crow. ' Kakakellam Kalyanam' Crows marriage, 'Kuruvi kkellam seemantham' Baby shower for the sparrow. Signifying the reproduction of these birds which help in cultivation. 'Perandam teraindu Vazattum' Let my mother's home be in all glory. ' Pukkam Pongi vazattum' Let my inlaws place be also in all glory and filled with all riches.Daughters keep the bright colored rice for the birds and cows.

This festival is very dear to me because of its significance and rich culture. Sorry for a rather long post. But I thought I should share whatever I know of our culture with all of you. Happy Pongal Once again
