Chapter 244- You have to Live

Suman woke up. Her head was still aching. She tried to see where she was. She was in Sreedhar's room. Slowly the events of last night came to her thoughts. Renu Bhabi telling about Piyush alliance with her niece, then she talking about her family. She sat upright and tried to recollect what all she told . But things were hazy. She was not sure what to do. She sat staring at the wall when she heard Maheswari's voice.

" Suman I hope you are awake. I hope bahu of this house has not forgotten her duties "

She got up, adjusted her pallu and went to the entrance of the room and stood there. Everyone was busy in the morning chores. It was her duty to take the flowers for morning pooja from the garden and she did it diligently. But today she stood pulling her pallu tightly towards her.

Maheswari looked at a bewildered, confused Suman standing at the room entrance. She looked around. Other members of the family including Rajasekhar had also stopped their activities. She sighed.

" Suman open your ears and hear this out clearly. I don't want to repeat this again. I was 15 years old when I came as the bahu of this family. From that day with the instruction of Maa and also with the knowledge I have gained from bauji, bhaiyya and bhabi I have nurtured this family.

When my bahus came, I have given the knowledge I got from my elders to them so that they are able to take the legacy forward. I have bought every bahu to this house to live , to bring in new life, to bring in new thoughts so that the family prospers.

In this family I do not expect anyone to have the thoughts of death. Death is something which is in Mata Gowri's hand. She creates life so only she has the right to take it. We have to think about life only. If a woman doesn't think about life, life will be wiped out from the face of earth. You have chosen this house and I have accepted that choice and let me tell you what that choice means. The rule of this house is that you have to live. Problems will come, trouble will come they are part and parcel of life. Death is not the solution for anything. You have to face them.

What happened is your past. You are no longer just the daughter of Rajput family, you are also the bahu of Varma family . This is the truth. Make effort to close your past and be part of this family with a promise to live from today. "

Suman was crying with her head bowed. Maheswari went near the girl.

" Suman you are brave girl. You have withstood so much. The torture you faced had not killed your soul. You didn't speak once against your family all these days. But to save a girl you spoke. Renu had called yesterday night , Tilak and her brother are going to your house sometime today to break the alliance. Don't be afraid of anything. If they want to rebuke you, first they will have to deal with me and your Papa.

Now go, do your morning chores, dress up, we need to go to doctor and then you can go to the shop.

" Doctor" Suman looked bewildered.

" Yes our family doctor who came to check on you yesterday. We need to consult him " told Maheswari.

Suman nodded and soon she came down dressed and took her position to serve breakfast in the dining table . Sreedhar looked at her. She looked calmer.

" Sreedhar you take Maa and Suman to the doctor. I need to go with Papa. Tilak Bhaiyya will be back only by evening. New stock is coming in warehouse and Papa cannot handle it alone" told Sudhir and Sreedhar nodded.

They were in doctor's room. The doctor did some normal check up of Suman. Asked how she is feeling. She told she is feeling fine.

" Maheswariji your bahu looks quite fine now. Even then I would suggest for the next couple of months keep her away from things and people that bring stress. Encourage her to do things she like the most. I know you have opened a retail shop. In addition to that some visits to the places nearby with family or children will be good for her.

Suman start writing a diary where you will write the most pleasant things that happened to you on a daily basis. Find some time to pray alone. Listen to some soothing music. Also take the medicines I have given you. You have a long life in front of you. Don't allow the past to cloud your present " told the doctor after listening to her. Maheswari thanked the doctor and as they were about to step out the doctor asked Maheswari to wait a minute while asking Sreedhar and Suman to go out.

When they went out doctor turned to Maheswari.

" Maheswariji don't take me wrong if I tell this. Your family has done so many progressive things. Also I know the family from where you hail. It is a family with so much progressive thoughts. Your bahu is very young Maheswariji. She has not lived her married life for a day. Before she could fill her maang with her own hands, destiny erased that sindoor from her maang. I know you are a mother and for your child you have lots of dream. But Maheswariji if you can make Sreedhar give life to Suman, give her a second chance in life it will shed light into the lives of many widows."

Maheswari looked at the doctor thought for a minute and told " Doctor saab I understand what you are telling. But I don't want to force such decision on Sreedhar and Suman. But yes I will give due consideration to it and will discuss with my family, if family is fine I will discuss with Suman and Sreedhar. If Sreedhar is willing to hold Suman's hand and Suman can leave her past and move ahead with my younger son believe me doctor saab I will ensure the union happens with everyone's blessing"

She thanked the doctor once again and the doctor too thanked her. When she came out she saw both Sreedhar and Suman eagerly standing.

" Maa what did doctor tell. Does Sumanji have any problem" blurted out Sreedhar.

" Beta it was not about Suman. We provide blankets to poor patients in this hospital. He was telling this year the requirement is a bit more than what we usually give. He was asking whether we could afford some additional twenty to thirty blankets. I said surely we will do. Now come. Drop me at home, and then take Suman to the shop " told Maheswari as she walked briskly with Suman and Sreedhar following her.

Hai shruthi. MV is just so caring and sensible. How she cared for her bahu is so sweet. She believes in life and so nice of her to take suman for Doctor to counsel her.

Wow the doctor suggested Sree and Suman marriage. So now maheshwari gets an opening to speak to the rest..

@Beautiful if MV had not believed in life, the family wouldnt have come this far. She had always stood for what is there than what is lost. She is a woman of present.

@Ria Bhavani is the starting point for MV. Without involving Suman's mother how will MV alone will take the decision. Then she needs to see how her family apart from RV is looking into it. It's a delicate issue and needs to be handled very carefully and maturely
