Coming to marks I dont think anyone in those times would have cried hearing 92% mark. It was a solid achievement. And to be frank I wouldnt have given a damn if 76% was for Biology or Geography, 2 subjects I somehow managed to study. But to take it for English 2nd paper was too much. Because that paper was your strength. The paper you were expecting to boost your state level rank chances. A paper you were hoping would balance out your no so good geography mark.

And indeed it was. If like other people I had got 96 or 98 for that paper I would have been a 14th or 15th rank holder at State Level. So it was something at that time, a kind of raw pain which didnt allow me to write as it will remind me of the rank I missed.

But believe me I have cried buckets when my 10th results came as I got only 76% for English 2nd paper, an indication that I cant write a English essay properly. And I didnt write essays or stories for close to 3 years. Then wrote something here and there. But it took me 11 years to come back and seriously write something. It happened because of my office magazine. That mark had broken me a lot when people couldnt write once sentence properly scored 95-96 for English 2nd paper and me who had always topped the school as far as language marks go could manage only 76%.
