Sreedhar tells naa in one of the earlier chapter. Bhaiyya I have lost my defense when he comes back from Delhi after visiting his friends. All his crazy ideas and the support for them was given to him by Murali and always he took beating for his kid brother.

Yes Suman and Sree are evolving in their relation, opening up, sharing their thoughts and confusions.

Chapter 169- The Sarcasm

" Suman, Sreedhar come down Sobha Mausi has come" they heard Latika Mami's call.

" Coming Mami " told Sreedhar. " Sumi come, one thing Sumi my Mausi will tell some harsh or pointed words. Please bear with her and don't take such things to heart "

" Sreedhar why you have to tell me again and again. I told you I will manage. Stop worrying" told Suman.

Suman was behind Sreedhar laughing at something he told she forgot they had reached the ground floor " Suman bahu it would be good if you laugh less. Just because my sister is kind to you don't forget your status" . Startled Suman looked in front of her to see a woman who looked like Maheswari but didn't had the caring smile and assurance her MIL always carried with her.

" I am sorry Mausi. Sreedhar just told a joke " told Suman

" Sreedhar is your devar Suman bahu. Behave like a bhabi with him. Latika Bhabi why did you sent Sreedhar with her" asked Sobha

" Arrey Sobha Sreedhar asked her to go with him to show his thinking room. He took Poornima also there . Suman loves reading books. Bauji's collection is with Sreedhar only naa" told Latika Mami

" This is the problem with Maheswari didi. Bahu is finding time to read books. Who will do the household work then. She has kept all her bahus on head. And I heard she did Suhagan Pooja for that low caste woman"

Poornima's eyes welled up with tears and she said " She was not low caste woman, she is my mother, my father had married her" her voice was loud and clear as if she couldn't take that insult. Sreedhar went and hugged her

" Mausi I request you to speak a little respectfully about Anu Bhabi. Please understand she is no more"

" Sobha why have you come here. To give sarcastic remarks to Suman and Poornima. You very well know they are here right. If you were uncomfortable I would have send Sreedhar home" told Latika Mami

" I came for that only Latika Bhabi to invite Sreedhar, Aakash, Namrata and Adwaith home. Come for lunch everyone tomorrow. Not to meet Maheswari's widow bahu or her grand daughter who is born to a low caste woman"

Sreedhar held Poorni tightly to ensure she doesn't tell anything out of anger. It was then Sobha's eyes fell on Vaishnav. " Who is he"

" Sobha he is Vaishnav Samrat. He is Poornima's friend. He was with her for running dignity for widow campaign." told Latika Mami

" Understood, understood the boy who made a widow light the lamp for his house warming. Sourabh was telling. You are doing all this beta because nobody gave you the right sanskaar. If your mother was there you wouldn't have got into bad company. " told Sobha . Vaishnav stood silent then he heard a voice.

" Come Vaishnav beta. Come here.Without a mother you have grown up into a well behaved boy. Before questioning your sanskaar it would be much better Sobha question Suyyash and Sourabh's sanskaar" told Jaideep

" Sobha how many times I have to tell you, keep the language of your sasural there and come. Why are you making Bhaiyya's BP high. You very well know he had a bypass surgery 3 years back " told Jaidev

Sobha didn't tell anything. "I am coming right to eat food from your hands" told Sreedhar trying to pacify her.

" Yes Sreedhar you are one person who doesn't mock at me. If I stand here I will hear more. So I am going" told Sobha Mausi and walked out without giving a glance at her elder brother.

Once she was gone Poorni sank to the floor and started crying. " I am not illegitimate. My Papa married my Maa. Then why is Sobha dadi telling like this "

Latika Mami took the girl in her arms " Poorni who told you are illegtimate. If Sobha tells that will you become one. Everyone knows the truth. But some people don't want to accept it. We cannot change them beta. You are a strong girl. These remarks shouldn't affect you. You know if you are affected how will it be for your Papa and your Choti Maa, your siblings. Sobha cannot change the fact you are Poornima Varma. So go wash your face and come. It is time for evening aarti "

Poornima got up, wiping her tears and hugged Mami and then she went up. Latika Mami asked Rakhi to follow her and keep her engaged. Then she looked at her husband on whose face it was clearly written the guilty feeling. Latika Mami knew her husband always felt guilty for Sobha's behavior and felt somewhere he had failed in giving her the right sanskaars.

Oh god this lady is horrible no wonder she has sons like this.. one who goes to prostitute and one who leeches at woman

Saas bahu drama was missing. Nice to see some because I can never expect maheswari to even scold her dil's so nice change.

Nice part Shruthi. As expected Shobha mausi is loud and hard. Such people always try to impose their ideas on others not because that is a noble idea but because they want to have an upper hand. Once can tackle critics but not this type of sarcastic ones whose whole intention is to hurt some one and wipe the happiness on their face.

Looks like Shobha mausi was not a bad lady to begin with but to survive in her sasural, she had to acquire such behavior and tongue lashing. But as the time pass, it has become part of her life that she can't distinguish between good and bad. May be in her sasural, men going to other ladies to satisfy their lust is common and in those days it was considered as prestige issue if a man can maintain 2 to 3 ladies. and also boost his manhood. If the wife complains about it to her sasuma or maa, they used to get a tongue lashing saying if you were good enough for him, may be he would not have gone out. May be you are lacking in some thing and not giving him enough pleasure, so don't complain. A man looks for external pleasure only if he doesn't get it at his house, etc. May be it is not just Shobha mausi's son but even her husband and BIL might have had such low habits which has been passed on to the new generation. May be some day later her behavior might change but by then it may be too late. Lets wait what happens next.

However Suman & poorni are not invited for the lunch. So I have a strong feeling that during this period Suarabh might pay a visit to Suman, knowing very well that Sree and the other family members have gone to his place for lunch and even Adwaith will be with Sree. However vaishnu will be at home with Suman & Poorni and it would be better if these people are not at home along during that period.

Chapter 170- The Luncheon, The School, The Complaint

The next day Latika Mami asked Priti bhabi, Rakhi and Rajashree to take Suman, Poorni and Vaishnav to their school as the others will go to Sobha Mausi's house for luncheon.

" I am not coming Chachu. Why have you agreed to go to Sobha dadi's house. She has not invited Poornima didi." Told Aakash defiantly and the other 2 children stood behind him

" It is not right naa Chachu. You all tell us to speak truth, behave well with others then why are we going to a place where Suman Chachi and Poornima didi is not invited. I am also not coming" told Nami holding her elder brother's hand.

" I am also not coming if Poornima didi not coming " told Adwaith joining the bandwagon.

Sreedhar was at loss what to say to them. Latika Mami, Rakhee everyone tried. But the kids were adamant as why they should go. Jaideep Mamu simply refused to talk as he told he doesn't have answer to the kids question.

" You 3 are going with Chachu" told Suman

" Chachi .." started Aakash

" Aakash listen to me. Some 6-7 months back I couldn't step out of the house. There was Nami's dance programme. The family went right. 15 years back what happened to Anu Bhabi nobody could stop and your Poornima didi grew up not knowing she has a father or brothers. A punishment was given to me for coming down to protect your chachu. Will you say what your Papa did was wrong given the options he had at that time or your dadi was wrong in taking everyone to temple for Nami's performance when I couldn't go out or you will say Sreedhar Chachu was wrong in taking the punishment as he should have questioned and rebelled. As you grow up you will know there are situations in life where you cannot define right or wrong. But at that time you need to do certain things for the family. This is also one such thing. If you don't go it is not Sobha dadi you will be insulting but you will be paining your dadi more, Jaideep mamu more. You are the eldest. So stop whining and get dressed."

" Adwaith come, let me get you dressed and Rakhi dress up Nami well. Poorni you too go and get dressed, after lunch we are going to school right" told Suman as she took Adwaith's dress from the suitcase and took the boy to her room"

Sreedhar gave a sigh of relief and Latika Mami and Jaideep Mamu looked at each other. Their eyes passing a silent message.

Soon Sreedhar took the kids for lunch. When they reached Sobha Mausi's house Sobha Mausi enthusiastically invited them all. The kids made an attempt to smile. But mostly stood near Sreedhar not trying to mingle with anyone. Nami simply didn't leave Sreedhar's lap as she felt quite uncomfortable there. Then it was time for lunch. When Nami tried to sit with everyone Sobha Mausi stopped her.

" Nami beta you sit with the ladies. Let the men and boys have first" . Nami had tears in her eyes. She had never been told like this. Reluctantly she tried to get up. But Aakash had enough

" Sobha Dadi I will sit with Nami. She is my younger sister. I cant eat when my younger sister is standing there hungry. I came because Suman Chachi insisted I should be going. Else without you inviting my Poornima didi I was not planning to come. I cannot take this double standards. This is not my Papa and Mama have taught me" and Adwaith immediately got up and stood with his brother. " I will eat with Nami didi"

" Wow see the effect of putting Suman on head. She influences the kids also to rebel. I will speak to Maheswari didi on what her bahu is doing to her grand children. Now what should I say. Sit Namrata. Your brothers wont eat if you don't sit. This is not the way a girl should behave ok. She has to learn to be a good wife, else complaints will come from your sasural" told Sobha Mausi and the girl looked bewildered.

" Sreedhar tell your Maa if the girl is grown up like this she will not get good alliance " told Suyyash

" Bhaiyya Namrata is a child. There is a long way to go before we think about her marriage. At this point only her studies matter" told Sreedhar

" Sreedhar what will the girl do if she studies. She will still light the gas in the kitchen and cut vegetables right.Nothing more. So why are you wasting your effort " told Sobha's Mausi's husband sarcastically

Sreedhar held Aakash's hand to silence him. This was the hardest part. Now with changes happening it was difficult for the kids to adapt to the regressive surroundings and they questioned directly.

Soon the lunch happened. There was puris and gajar ka halwa and other things. Children were not taking much. But Sobha Mausi's attention was on Sreedhar

" Sreedhar how is puris and gajar ka halwa" asked Sobha Mausi

" It is good Mausi" told Sreedhar

" Arrey our Pakki made it. Pakki give puris and halwa to Sreedhar" . A girl just about 17 or 18 smiled shyly at Sreedhar and was about to serve puris when Aakash called

" Sreedhar Chachu Gobi Paratha is very good. You have it. Sobha Mausi give chachu naa. I don't see Paratha in Sreedhar Chachu's plate and Pakki didi is puris and halwa only for Sreedhar Chachu, we have not got it. Can I have some"

Sobha Mausi looked irritated but Pakki had to give to Aakash and then both Nami and Adwaith too asked. Aakash kept on asking Pakki this and that and the other kids simply imitated their elder brother calling Pakki didi not allowing her to go near Sreedhar till the lunch was finished much to the discomfort of whole Sobha Mausi's family.

Suman and Poorni were in the school. Since it was summer holidays no one was there. Priti Bhabi explained how it was started in 1955 and there were only 6 girls there and she was one among them. She told how nanu and Jaideep Mamu had strived hard to bring girls to the school. How they had encouraged young men to marry educated girls. How many girls like her were saved from early marriage because of their efforts. Jaideep Mamu had given word to her father that Sujoy will marry her post she completes 12^th. Chaya was also chosen similarly, so was Somu mamu's wife Aradhana Mami. And 2 sons of Jaidev Mamu who were in army also had married girls from the school itself. When the family chose the girls as their bahus more credibility came to the school and more students came.

She said now they had 500 students and this year in 12^th 55 girls have written which is highest ever for the school. She asked if Suman is fine if she calls some 5-6 students parents to their house the next day. She told those girls have lot of potential and if send to a good college even in Jodhpur can have bright future. They are sending Rakhi to college as example, but if Suman speaks to them it will give more credibility and will also allay their fears that a girl sent to college wont obey traditions.

Suman didn't know what to tell. She was a girl who wanted to run away and have the marriage. That was why her father married her off. But then she couldn't refuse as what would she tell.

" Suman what are you thinking. Is it difficult" asked Priti Bhabi

" No Bhabi. You call them. I will speak" told Suman

" That's good. I will tell Rajdeep to go and call everyone tomorrow morning at our house. Afternoon you are going to Geetha's place right"

" Yes Bhabi tomorrow we are going to Geeta didi's place and then to market ". They had seen the complete school

" Aakash what were you upto. If Renu Bhabi knows she will make you into a pulp. Suman Chachi told you right not to question certain things and what were you doing with Pakki" asked Sreedhar to Aakash in a harsh voice. He was not sure was this the way Tilak Bhaiyya was in his teenage.

Aakash was silent. " Aakash I am asking you" . But he didn't tell anything and simply turned away. Sreedhar looked at other 2 sitting behind. Nami was holding Adwaith. They kept their head low.

Once they reached home Aakash simply walked off gruffly not answering anything. " Aakash I am asking you " came Sreedhar behind him and took hold of him.

Others have come from school and now they were stunned to see an angry Sreedhar and crying Aakash

" What happened " asked Suman

" Ask him, what he was doing " told Sreedhar

Just then the phone rang. Rakhi went and took the phone.

" Aakash your mother is calling " told Rakhi

" As expected the moment we stepped out Sobha Mausi would have called home. Go, go and answer your mom" told Sreedhar to Aakash

Aakash went and took the phone. " Aakash what were you upto today. Why did you eat all the puris and gajar halwa. You know your Sreedhar Chachu like it a lot. Why didn't you share it with him"

" Maa I don't want Pakki didi as my chachi " told Aakash crying and everyone in the hall was stunned.

" Who told Pakki didi is going to be your Chachi" asked a bewildered Renu

" Then why did she make Puris and Gajar ka halwa for Chachu. In school my friend Neeti told her sister Neeta didi made ladoos because someone is coming to see her for marriage and ladoo is his favourite sweet. Puris and Gajar ka halwa is Sreedhar Chachu's favourite naa. So she is going to be my chachi. I don't want her. I don't want anyone from that house" he kept the phone down and rushed up the stairs crying.

" Aakash " shouted Renu through the phone only to realize he had kept the phone.

" What happened Renu. Who called " Renu turned and saw Maheswari who had returned from temple.

" Maa I don't know what happened" and she narrated what Aakash told and also about Sobha Mausi's call. She also told she will call Maheswari at night to speak to her.

" Let her call Renu. What needs to be spoken I will speak" told Maheswari

" Is Pakki didi going to be our chachi " asked Nami to Sreedhar

" No she is not. She will not. Your dadi wont allow it beta. I know it. Now all of you go up. Sreedhar beta come let us go to the big banyan tree near the Gowri temple and sit there for sometime. I feel you are stressed out,Vaishnav Poorni, and Rajdeep you also come. Suman bahu speak to Aakash. Rakhi and Raji take care of Nami and Adwaith" told Jaideep Mamu as he dispersed the assembly

I'm eager to read the conversation between maheshwari and shobha mausi.. Suman's convincing skill and her thought process is so clear and simple. Kids were spot on and more perceptive than Sree or was it that Sree understood but was used to such incidents.
