Chapter 171- The Discipline

" Aakash what is this. How would Renu Bhabi have felt when Sobha Mausi called her and told about you. I told naa beta bear with some things" Suman sat beside a crying Aakash.

" Chachi how do you expect me to be quiet. First of all Poornima didi was insulted. Then at their place they asked Nami to get up. How I am supposed to eat when my kid sister is made to stand. You know she had tears in her eyes. Sreedhar Chachu didn't tell anything. I am angry with him also. Why did he allow Sobha Dadi to behave that way with Nami. If she grows up and like Poornima didi wants to be with ladies fine. But she is child right" told Aakash between sobs

" Fine you spoke up for your sister. Why did you disturb Pakki and decisions such as marriage is taken by elders Aakash, why did you interfere" told Suman swallowing her own pain. She knew she wouldn't have been able to bear if she had seen Pakki trying to be close to Sreedhar.

" Chachi if that Pakki didi comes as Sreedhar Chachu's wife what will be the condition of Poornima didi in our house. Everyone will say tolerate her naa telling she is family just like you are all asking me to tolerate Sobha Mausi. How much she will insult Poornima didi and Anu Maa. What about you Chachi. She will also insult you right. Will she give you the respect of Bhabi. No. She wont. No one from that house will give Suman Chachi. And you are blaming me. What did I do wrong "

Suman didn't know what to tell him and she thought for a while before answering his question " Aakash what did you tell about Pakki didi now. That she wont respect Poorni or me. How did you arrive at that decision. Did you speak to Pakki"

" No, but look at how everyone in that house is behaving" told Aakash

" So Aakash beta based on how the people in that house behaved you decided Pakki's character. Am I right" asked Suman

" Yes Chachi " told Aakash

" So based on how you behaved their wont they judge your Maa and your Suman Chachi. Wont questions come on what kind of Sanskaar your Maa gave you. Wont question come on how Suman Chachi is taking care of you when your Maa is not there. "

" But Chachi how would they.." then he stopped looking down

Suman held his face up " Aakash beta you were a guest there. You should have behaved the way your maa has taught you to behave in that circumstance. Else the questions will come to your Maa. If you had felt uncomfortable about something you could have told Sreedhar Chachu or me once you were back. Wouldn't we have addressed your concern. If you have a problem with anyone outside the family beta don't explode there, come into the fold of family and speak. We all are there for you" told Suman

Meanwhile Rakhi and Raji bought Nami and Adwaith also. Suman looked at them. They both rushed to her " We are sorry Chachi. We wont repeat " told both of them.

" Chachi next time if someone ask me to get up and stand with girls I will get up. I wont cry" told Nami

Suman looked at Aakash. " Come speak to your Maa. She will be worried for you"

Renu picked the phone when it rang and Aakash apologized to her then Renu spoke to Suman and asked everything is fine. Suman told Renu not to worry about anything. They all are fine.

Soon the crowd that had gone out also came back munching salted peanuts and distributed to everyone. Sreedhar looked at Suman asking how things are and she indicated everything is fine.

It was post dinner the phone rang at Varma house. Maheswari picked the phone. It was Sobha at the other end.

" Hello didi is dinner done" asked Sobha

" Yes Sobha dinner is done and your jeeju has gone to sleep also" told Maheswari

" Didi don't feel bad if I tell something" told Sobha

" Sobha if it is about Aakash I am sorry for what happened. I apologize on his behalf. Just forgive him as he is a child "

" No no didi Aakash I have forgotton. I also know he is a child. Afterall Namrata is his sister. But I spoke to Renu because you know how my husband is right. I called you to speak about your widow bahu" told Sobha

" Suman what did she do. She didn't even come to your house right" asked Maheswari

" You know I wont entertain widows like you didi. But I just want to tell you beware of her. Our Sreedhar is nave. And your bahu is young. You never know the way I see her behaving with Sreedhar I am not comfortable didi"

" Sobha why did Pakki prepare puris and gajar ka halwa for Sreedhar " asked Maheswari and she felt a pause at the other end.

" Didi why are you thinking too much into that. It is just that my devar wants to proceed the alliance of Pakki with Sreedhar. What is wrong with that. Pakki is 16, fair and beautiful"

" Sobha you didn't answer my question. Why did Pakki prepare puri and gajar ka halwa for Sreedhar"

" Didi that was what I was telling"

" Did I give her the right to prepare puri and gajar ka halwa Sobha" this time Maheswari's voice was stern

" Didi you are making mountain out of a mole hill.. "

" If I am making mountain out of a mole hill, then let me tell you Sobha you are also making mountain out of a mole hill as far as Suman's interaction with Sreedhar goes. Let me be very clear. Till now I have not given any girl any right to prepare puris and gajar ka halwa for Sreedhar. The day I decide I will let you know. I would prefer no one else take that decision on behalf of me"

Sobha didn't know what to tell and she only mumbled as she kept the phone " Fine didi, I will tell devar"

Maheswari too kept the phone but her thoughts lingered on both Suman and Sreedhar.

So the Pakki matter is resolved right? And how many more days till this trip ends.. Sree has to visit his sasural also.. will saurabh also tag along with thme back on the pretext of meeting maheshwari and the rest? I would like to see how maheshwari would have handled him.. though I hope he doesn't tag along with them.. poore trip ka maza kirkira kardiya hai bande ne😡

Trip will end in 2 more days and 1 day in Suman's house on the return way. So next week mostly Jodhpur saga will be over. Dont worry Sourabh wont tag along with them at this point😆. Pakki is resolved

thank god the leech is not going to be there.. but he will be back.. so looks like my wish to see how Maheshwari handles him may come true.. no wonder they say be careful to wish for things..

Chapter 172- Geeta Didi, Jodhpur Market

Sreedhar stopped the open van in front of a 3 storeyed building. They had come to Jaideep Mamu's eldest daughter Geeta didi's place.

On the way Sreedhar had told Suman that Geeta didi's family was into agriculture. Geeta didi was married to the middle brother. Some 10 years back a bitter feud emerged among the 3 brothers post her mother in laws death. Result was partition. The fields were partioned and the house was demolished and made 3 storeyed and each brother stayed with his family in one floor. Neither Geeta didi's bhabi nor her devrani supported Geeta didi's beliefs. But her husband and kids were supportive so once the partition happened Geeta didi practiced what she believed in her house. He told her Geeta didi's bhabi and devrani can be nasty but Geeta didi has learned to live in that house. Geeta didi's eldest son was in Navy and her daughter was married, the younger son was studying in a college in Jodhpur. He said at home they will meet Geeta didi's bahu Prerana, her one year old granddaughter Pihu and her younger son Girish.

As Sreedhar parked the car itself he heard shouts " Geeta come take the chudayil quickly to your house. Now the new rule has allowed you to have your way" shouted an elderly lady and also asking her bahu to go inside telling doesn't she care about her suhaag.

" Arrey Bhabi you don't need to call my brother's wife Chudayil. She has a name Suman. And Suhaag you are talking as if my bua doesn't have a suhaag or my Renu or Vindhya doesn't have suhaag. Well it is more than a year now Suman is in that house and many Suhagans visit her as she teaches dance and does embroidery. Didn't hear any incident on anyone losing her Suhaag seeing her. I am not bringing her to your house. No need to meddle into mine" told Geeta didi equally ferociously as she came down to welcome them.

As they went up she shouted " Prerna bahu take the aarti, Suman and Poornima are coming here for first time"

" Yaa do the welcome with Aarti and all. One is widow and other Geeta Bhabi never expected your brother will marry a low caste woman" came another voice from top.

" Jayanthi Tilak married Anusree. What about your brother. I know to take the count of prostitute house he visits and I heard these days there is mechanism to ascertain the paternity of a child's father. If you dare ask your brother to go for that if he is so pure like snow"

Suman and Poornima didn't know what to feel. On one side they felt like laughing seeing the ladies passing the tirades, other side bewildered on how did Geeta didi survived in this mayhem.

Prerna stood there with aarti. Geeta didi took aarti and put kumkum tikka for Poorni and a kajal dot for Suman and then she invited them inside.

Suman gave the bag of gifts to Gita didi. Everyone admired the hand embroidery Suman did for Pihu's dress. Suman had done it just the day before night taking the embroidery kit from Latika Mami. They didn't know how the time passed as they had lunch at Geeta Didi's place. Played with Pihu. Girish asked Sreedhar on higher studies option as he said he wanted to be a lecturer. He told after the division of land agriculture was not yielding anything major and it was better he looked for a salaried job. Sreedhar said of course he can look into some college in Delhi if he scores well for his graduation.

Geeta didi asked about Suman's family and told one of Suman's Bhabi Jyothi is her husband's niece. Suman was surprised to know Jyothi Bhabi was connected to Sreedhar's family. She was Pritam Bhaiyya's wife and was now second pregnant. That was what Maa had told when she called Suman one month back. She knew none of the bahus or betis of that house spoke the truth outside. So obviously the opinion would be good to everyone.

Soon it was time for them to leave. Just like in Sandhya's place Geeta didi also gave Suman a nice plain silk saree, Poorni a salwar, and dresses to all other kids and Sreedhar.

Then they came to market. As they roamed the market Suman got busy buying things for Nami for her dance performance for that year temple festival. That year even her students Megha and Sayoni were also performing. They went for a doll dance and also watched a street play being performed. Kids had matka kulfi and also sliced mangoes. It was then Poorni shouted " Sreedhar Chachu look Choodiwala. Looks like he has a good collection. Come let us see"

Sreedhar took everyone there. Poorni and Nami went on a buying spree of bangles. Suman asked Poorni to take choodi for Rajashree , Smitha , Shreya and Rakhi also. They bought that also. Sreedhar paid the money.

Then the choodiwala asked " Bhaiyya you bought for everyone, you didn't buy for bhabiji. Take some for her naa and put in her hands. Ladies love when husbands put bangles in their hands"

Sreedhar didn't know what to say and Suman turned away not wanting anyone to see her tears.

" Bhaiyya.." Sreedhar tried to explain

" Bhaiyya how can devar put choodi for bhabi , that too a bhabi who is widow". Everyone looked startled from where the voice was coming. Sourabh was sitting in the bike and grinning

The choodiwala looked as if a thunder hit him and he blabbered " This is the problem allowing widows to wear color clothes. How are we supposed to know she is a widow. That too she was taking for everyone. I need to do Pooja for my vehicle. A widow was selecting bangles from my vehicle" saying it he hurried. Poorni went near Suman who was now crying as everyone in the market looked at her and some started moving away as if they have seen a demon.

Sreedhar looked at Sourabh and he grinned at him as he rode the bike. He looked around and understood if they stood there more time people might pass more comments. He looked at Poorni and slowly they moved towards the open vehicle.

Loved the replies of Geeta didi.. and Saurabh is such a sadistic person.. Sree's perspective is also very good.. how he notices the surroundings and acts accordingly.
