So was I dear...
I don't understand this mentality and u know there's a majority of these type of people who say this has never happen in our family before...
It's not like there is no fault in there family like vandu is all happy is her life
Like she can do whatever she want
Like there was no complication in her conceiving or during Pregnency or even all is well between appa's family also

They never say that in our family no one has ever married in such a rich family
Or
never a girl is so fortunate to get such an adorable in laws who are so supportive of her
Or
Who goes every now and then to Paris like it's her second home
Or
Have hubby like R&B who is culmation of good looks and brains

This is so emotional !!
For one...I dont know what it is like.
I dont even want to know
Reading through the script itself I am able to feel every nudge and pain.
I cannot explain what all emotions I have had in the last 4 minutes

This is sooo bad
Very sad for a couple...a family...for everyone.
Its not anyone's mistake. who should be blamed then?

Right Shruthi I had my eyebrows raising as well. I scrolled up and reread it to make sure if it's amma who said that and wondered the innocence of that stmt. I felt she must be sometimes getting tired of having to defend Dude to appa all the time. The helplessness she feels I think makes her want to pin this in somebody or something and the first thought in the mind is how!!! Nothing like this has ever happened before and more over my daughter hasn't harmed even a fly... she did not even want a second one... she pushed me to accompany her for getting her tubes tied... why oh why ... I should hv probably gone with her... In Tamil there's a word called Adhangam which I would probably translate it as sympathy born out of angst that makes amma rant.

Don't know if it's innocent...or a casual remark in the flow of conversation, but what it did was that appa received a shot in the arm from unexpected quarters to renew his rivalry energized . Vandu kept this in perspective atleast ... small mercies...

Vandu is saying that to appa sonal 😆... But appa's ears are deaf man's ears and his eyes are those that are awake pretending to be asleep...

Eyes closed, ears shut, mind closed one track ...sadly only one sensory organ is open but malfunctional ... and that's the mouth with his tongue lashing out...

Adhangam - angst or anguish (probably the closest English word?)

Perfect word for the situation Kalpana

Amma's Aadhangam is understandable but Sri Vishvanatha Iyer's attitude is downright mean and petty. He is unable to accept the fact that there is a person that adores his daughter and whom his daughter adores with equal fervor Period. It triggers a sense of inadequacy in him that his daughter did not consult him or wait for his approval before accepting the ring compounds his misery. This surfaces every time he gets a chance to rave and rant at his daughter's error in judgement. Were there others like Periappa? There is always a firs time and it is very juvenile of him to train his guns on the Dude.
It is annoying every time he comments on the couple's decision to have or not to have kids and the number.
The meanness is very stark as the same man was siding Bala when Vandu needed rest.

Scraps of love...

Every hour took over 60 minutes to pass by, some, even longer
Sam returned upstairs soon with a sleeping Nivi
She handed her cheerfully to II

II huddled and cuddled with her
Placing her lips on her fat cheeks and letting it sink in

He lay there watching them both

His eyes were bloodshot too
His fave thing was to have sex-stay up- read a book-go back and fix himself a snack-eat-read-have sex and go to bed
His daughter would not let him get his "nightly sleep" from 5 AM- 10 AM
After the morning sex he would most often be woken by a chattering Nivi

His wife would mercilessly hand her to him and go off to the sun room and curl up and sleep
He had gone weeks without 5 hours of sleep a day
And then one day he would sleep from morning to night

Ignoring pings on his phone, his land line, and visitors

She would ask Mahavir or Sofia to hold Nivi downstairs

He would wake after she returned from work, made herself chai walked over to the gate grabbed the Tamil mags Amma dropped off on way home from school
Go up with her chai and tease him...
Somedays if he was lucky he would get laid, other days, he would just take her chai and let her lay in bed after making out, reading her books

He would go down and police Nivi giving Ranjan a break

He hadnt slept from the minute she had ran into the bathroom two mornings ago
She had "felt the first gush"

His eyes closed as if he shut that thought out

Nivi II and R&B got their first few hours of togetherness... though in sleep

Sam walked in to pick up a awake Nivi at 3

Scolded II to get off the bed, wash up and come eat pao bhaji

"Did u get burger bun?" II asked shocked

"U forgot my Dad is here" she said proudly

"U sent Dad to Carrefour?" she asked worried

"ONE SUBWAY STOP" Sam argued

"I got lost one time, with no phone and no idea" II shuddered

Sam was happy II loved talking so much she was forgetting what she underwent

But the joy was shortlived

When she shut herself in the toilet... and came out a few minutes later her expression was one of devastation

"Do u need to see a Doc?" Sam asked, Nivi was playing with II's hairbrush

II shook her head

"Chalo aakar khao pehle, phir Champs Elysses chalte hain" Sam butchered the name and chuckled

II paused and smiled weakly

"I cant walk too far... umm... u know" she said softly

"Lets atleast go to the supermarket" Sam begged

Ranjan dropped his spoon when he saw her

Ii cringed... a lil akward... at her own phyiscal state

"Aaayin puttarjee, aithey baitho tussi" he patted a chair next to him

Nivi slid off Sam's godeee and quickly climbed up the chair and sat by him and leaned back and waved II's brush
"Wah jee wah... kangi karega mera beta" he cooed and bend down

Nivi messed up his hair and giggled like crazy

They did that for 20 mins to each other
Ranjan fed her scraps of sesame seed bun toasted in ghee
She devoured them all hungrily

II looked at her pigeon friends

"there is no bird seed left, I told him the cleaning lady didnt buy any" she sighed

After she had returned from a joyous Doc visit she had been very chatty, forgetting his sexcapades at CMU

"Dad lekar aayenge tum chinta mat karo" Sam patted her shoulder
There were many piegon babies in the mix

Nivi slid off her chair waddled to her Amma and waved the brush at the birds

Sam toasted pao on a skillet and handed her a plate of yummy goodness

"Kya peeogi? "chai banaoon?" she asked

She rarely cooked at shanti Niketan, except to make lamb biryani for her brother or to escape her MIL

This was supposed to be her "freedom from kitchen"
But here she was in the middle of it

II ate all four halves of the bun... famished

Sam ran the blender, and within minutes a tall glass of strawberry shake stood in front
The ice cream scoops bobbing on top

Nivi was excited, she danced she squealed, she wanted it all

R&B appeared in the doorway

"DA DA DA DA DA DA DA" she screamed

"Huney aaya" Ranjan chuckled from the office

"Dad woh APNE DAD ko pukaar rahi hai" Sam laughed trying to cheer everyone up

Nivi ran to him flinging II's brush

He hugged and kissed her with love

"Kha le... "supper hai" Sam urged

He walked over to his wife

She was bent over her plate eating quietly

"Can I have a bite?" he asked politely

She scoooped up some bhaji on a pao wedge, sprinkled onion and cilantro dabbed it with lemon and raised her hand

Nivi bend down and caught it in her mouth

Sam laughed so did Ranjan

Nivi was horrified by the taste... she began to cry

R&B ate the remainder...

"Want to go for a walk?" he asked

"Kidhar?" II asked

"Wherever" he promised

"Bahar kahin le ja isko... beach resort" Ranjan urged

"No... no... no.. I want to be here" she said

Unwilling to let go of whatever scraps of memory this apartment held... of her 6 week old baby

"
