Tree & Tree House
Akka and II lay on the terrace of the Sector 27 NOIDA house of Kamakshi Athai
"Remember the funding scandal of Janaki Athai's son in law, Venkatesh's brother?" Akka murmured
II's ears cocked "the year Manya got married? Oh I remember"
Sahana was climbing in and out of a cardboard box in the corner
"Does she talk nicely to you NOW?" Akka asked turning over to II
The December sunshine was balmy, they had stopped by last night to spend the night with Kamakshi Athai and her husband, both nearing 90 and not doing well
"U mean Manny?" II mumbled
"Vidu dee ada" (leave that alone) Ii scolded as she watched Sahana pulled clothes she could reach, hanging from the line
"Who else?" Akka asked sitting up and checking her texts
"Edo vidu" (leave that one alone) II yawned
"Did u ever think you will have twins?" Akka grinned
"I didnt think I will even have one with Rakshasan"
"Podi" Akka muttered in disbelief, staring at her with studied familiarity

Akka laughed hysterically

"He didnt either" Akka said firmly
"Umm... u know... he must have realized no one else will put up with his bull shit so he asked me to marry him" she cackled cynically
Akka laughed
"Nee paathuko ka avala. I need to quit having kids, I am too old" II rolled her eyes "I want to take that 15 min nap"
Akka got up and grabbed the doll
She screamed
Loudly cursing and yelling as II dozed
"Hey text the dude no, ask him to go get Nivi from Panchsheel Park. Macy didnt go to this one, they went home to Zambia"
"Sonniye dee raatri... hyper paranoid woman" II mocked (u told me already)
II paused... "Did I tell u? I dont know... I cant remember... heck I dont know if I ate or showered or clipped my nails" "Nothing" II slurred and yawned
"Do u remember when u had sex?" Akka screeched
II opened her eyes

"I have none... Athim is too stressed... I have a kid in the 20s..." Akka said longingly

II flung a peanut shell towards her
"Paathuko dee, onn amma... seriyana rowdy" (Ur mother is a brat) Akka kissed Sahana's cheeks and cooed
Sahana was calm now, holding Akka's blouse and shutting her eyes as Akka rocked her

"Last night where did she wake up?" Akka defended her
"Because last night she went to bed at midnight... vaal (naughty)" II waved a finger

She smiled back as she shut her eyes
II and Akka arrived at MM at 7 ish to find a floodlight pointing towards a large leafy Peelu tree
Her husband was midway nailing a plank under what looked like a TREE HOUSE!!!
The boys were trying to climb the rope ladder he had already installed going up to it
"Ada Paavi" II scowled
The dogs scampered towards her
Upon seeing Sahana braked and skidded and stopped and growled
"Kya kar rahe ho?" Akka asked in shock
"Hey Vandita" he waved, he had a nail betwen his lips
"OMG... HOW CUTE A TREE HOUSE?" Akka squealed
"Naa 3 mani lendu call panren phoney edukale" (u never answered my call) II shouted
"Amma I be cwymbing beeeg swing" Ved said wiping a sniffle as he swayed on the rope swing
"I am not letting them climb up there, chance ey ille" II screamed
"Hang on" he said and turned on a electric power drill
"Did Daddy go get Mimika?" II demanded hands on the hips
"Mimika POSH WHEEL" Sid said firmly unable to say Panchsheel
"Ada Paavi, erangu da" Get down) II yelled
He wudnt turn it off
II walked over to the power source and pulled the plug
"where is Dadu?" she asked the boys
Sahana was being chased by Vandu and the dogs
"WOK" Ved said trying to pick out his favorite drill pieces froma giant tool box
"Rakshasaney, did u go bring Nivi?" II asked
"I thought u were bringing her" he said shocked
"Ive been texting you all morning long" II was in tears
"Sorry Ive been building this" he said
"saara EK DIN mein banaya?" Akka was stunned
"Ive been stalling him. Its dangerous... seeing me gone yesterday he started building it. If my kids climb up there OK let me say it this way, before my kids climb up there u will be dead" II shouted
He chuckled and made his way down
"Akka u stay here, can u check on dinner I am going to go get Nivi" II was upset
"I can go" he said casually unhooking his work belt
"I think u shud finish it becoz u will be sleeping here from tonight" II hissed
"Daddy cam we sweep too?" Both boys raised their hands obediently
"Hes SO HANDY... SO TALENTED" Akka gushed
"OH YEAH... TOTALLY... If HE WANTS something or the kids want something" Ii was upset
"I can build your jewelry cabinet for u if u agree on the design" R&B rushed
"shut up" II mumbled not wanting to talk about the sore subject
He grabbed his phone from a lawn bench "Nivi's with Sam" he said, grabbed Sahana kissed cuddled and nuzzled her "Missed me?" he asked
She held his face in her palms and uttered gibberish
"I like ur outfit" he muttered feeling the pink turtleneck with a tiny orange satin bow on the collarbone.
Sahana tried to grab the bow unsuccesfully
"I missed u" he said
And kissed her cheeks fondly. Her long messy curls were tied up high over her head they fell in curling rings all over her head
"U rock the jeans" he said hugging and twirling her
"U can hire a help to build what u want" Akka giggled
"OH NO... HE WILL F---FR... FREAKING BUILD MY THING TOO"
"Poda" Ii was upset
"Athey cam we come to yor house?" the boys begged
Akka giggled trying to pick both up
"If u take the boys will u take us too?" the dogs asked
"II" he ran after his wife
"No... no dont u dare butter me up, its ur new abode now" Ii said
"Theyve been begging us for a tree house" he pleaded
"Keytaa? (if they throw a tantrum) Will u build it?" II demanded
She was a lil jealous of the kids at this point.
She tucked her saree at her waist and opened the transparent frig door
"Missed me?" he asked
"I wud have if I was smoking something" II said gleefully
"I am going to make it child safe" he promised
"I dont want my kids on a tree" II said sternly
"OK let me finish up first?" he offered
"U dont do anything useful around the house, kozhandela pamper panna sollu... first line la nippaan" (spoiling the children? Oh yeah baby!)
"Thats not true" he argued sulking
"Ive been gone TWO DAYS. look at the house" she waved her arms
"Well... the guys dont listen to me" he shrugged
"Really?" she twirled around furious
"I am not going to be hard on the kids for no reason II" he said flatly
"Oh no... u can build them a tree house instead" she said her eyes glinting with envy
"Come here" he ordered leaning on the tall kitchen dining table
"Get lost" she said with satisfaction as she rinsed cabbage, prepping for chopping
