" We made it," said Khushi, replaying her own words in her mind to believe that it was the reality. They had managed to escape the harsh part of their reality, even though it was for only a short period considering Arnav's status as a businessman.

"We made it," repeated Arnav as he eyed his wife, trembling in the storm of her own emotions. He walked over to her, his eyes never leaving her shaking self, trying to accustom herself with the newly found freedom and environment.

"Maa," A whisper left Khushi's lips as the memories of her dear mother figure, who upheld the safety of her step-daughter than her own, flooded her perturbed mind.

Concern took over Arnav's heart, along with pangs of guilt. He knew that if he didn't stop Khushi from slipping into depression, neither would he ever be able to forgive himself or would there be any path to redemption.

Arnav cupped her tear-stained face in his palms gently as he made her look into her eyes, expressing his intense love and concern for her.

"Khushi, love, Aunty wanted you to be happy. She wanted the best for you, even if it was at the cost of her own happiness. If you don't stay happy, it would be wasting her sacrifice and insulting it. Do you want to do that?" he asked, while Khushi nodded negatively and pushed herself into his arms.

"I hope that she is safe somehow. I really hope that the bullet didn't hit her vital organs and she makes through it," she prayed, sobbing on her husband's chest, as he caressed her back lovingly and placed tender kisses of assurance on her forehead.

He pulled her away from him and enveloped her lips in a gentle kiss. A kiss in which she let out all her sorrows and a kiss in which he took in all her sorrows. A kiss of love and concern, marking their union.

They pulled away from the kiss as he rested his forehead against hers, looking into her desolate eyes and wondering if it was all a dream. He lifted her off the ground in bridal style, just as the bride should be carried into the room of night of love, which came after 5 years after their marriage in their case.

She looked into the realms of warm eyes filled with fondness for her as he carried her effortlessly into their chambers. She opened the door as he walked her in and placed her in middle of the bed gently. Hovering over her and running his intense gaze over her heaving self, Arnav pressed a gentle kiss over her forehead before lying beside her and taking her in warm embrace.

"Good night, love," he said, caressing the back of her head as she rested her head on his shoulders.

"Good night."

Next Morning,

Khushi woke up from what seemed like the best sleep of her life, to the sound of doorbell. Wondering who it could be, Khushi detangled herself from Arnav's strong grip, hoping that this she would wake up to the same sight, every single day of her life. She straightened her top and glanced at herself in the mirror placed right in front of the bed and walked out to open the door.

An unbelievable sight greeted her puffed eyes when she glanced through the peephole to check the identity of her visitor. She immediately opened the door to confirm that it was indeed her Sumitra Maa standing at her doorstep.

"Maa..."

Khushi stared at Sumitra, standing at her door, in what seemed like perfect health while Sumitra smiled weakly at her before stepping inside the house as Khushi shut the door behind her.

" Khushi, who's-" Arnav's question stopped mid-way as he faced a weak Sumitra, standing in his house.

Arnav's lips broke into a smile. " Maa, you are alright? Thank god!"

" Maybe or maybe not. I have been raped by Sudhakar and was beaten up by him but that got him arrested, which makes me feel happy about it."

The cold and nonchalant way of her revelation hit harder than any wail or sob. Khushi felt nauseating feeling rise through her esophagus. Her own father could break all the limits of shallowness and she was aware of that but raping the one he had sworn to protect? It was low, even for him.

"I am so sorry, Maa. It all happened due to me," Khushi said, her eyes gone blank and body gone numb.

"No, Bitiya. It was not due to you. It was due to the conservatism your father carried in him. And it is not the first time. I was raped by him on our wedding night too and it only makes sense that even the last time he would touch me would be forcibly because I never belonged to him truly," she consoled her daughter, holding her shoulder and looking into her eyes with never wavering determination and love.

"Rape is a non-bailable and non-cognizable offense. So there is no way he would get out, Aunty. I will make sure that we have the best lawyers on our side to counter whatever lawyer he will bring in to fight his side," Arnav said at last, still trying to take in the sheer courage and determination of the woman standing in front of him. She had faced so much but never did her capacity to love get exhausted nor did she complain about her life like many do.

"It is not necessary but thank you, Beta," she said, with an eerie smile, which made both Arnav and Khushi glance at each other in surprise. They thought that she was deeply affected by the happenings of yesterday. But what they didn't know was that their Sumitra Maa had already known the verdict of the court even before the legal proceedings had begun.

"What is wrong with you, Suhasini? How can you support your husband in something like this? Don't you love your daughter? Are you so blind in love for your husband that the line between right and wrong have faded for you?" Devyani condemned her daughter Suhasini as she arrived with the news of the deeds of her husband to her maternal home.

"But Maa, didn't you tell me to support my husband no matter what? That husband is God?" Suhasini asked in shock, wondering where had she gone wrong in adhering to her mother's teachings.

"I never asked you to support him when he is wrong. I asked you to support when no one supports him and when everyone supports him. If husband is God then so is Mother and God cannot take decisions like you took, without thought and without love. I am ashamed of you, Suhasini. You betrayed your daughter and now I betray you. Leave my house right now! I don't care if you have anywhere to go or not, but I will not have someone who is a blackspot for the word 'mother' stay at my home. Get out!" Devyani said furiously, pushing Suhasini outside and shutting the door on her face. Surely banishing your daughter was difficult but some lessons had to be learned the hard way, thought Devyani, praying and hoping that her grand-daughter is safe with her love.

What will Suhasini do now?

Nice update

At least now Suhasini will know what and how it feels to be shunned by a mother when she needed her support. Devayani did right by not allowing her to stay and pushed away. Feeling sorry for Sumithra, hope she gets justice for all the pain she endured in her life.

Suhasini needs to be taught how it feels to be abandoned by the person who is supposed to be with you, she has ruined the pure relationship of a mother, agree with Devyani.

felt bad for Sumitra.. but she is strong woman.. however don't want Khushi's mother to land up at ARSHI's place after her mother threw her out of her house.. loved the update..
