Reffering to the notes at the end of your update, I personally prefer when the writer puts his/hers ideas down, without too much consideration for readers comments. What I mean is, comments are a great tool to improve writing skills; they will show where you left readers confused; or when the meaning got lost, or worse got derailed on a wrong direction. But at the end of it all, let your story be your story. Give it your own voice, and please, don't worry too much about those who want to pull the story on a different direction than that in your mind.
I understand your wish to move the story slow. After reading it, I can see no other way for this relationship . . . it's a day by day thing. Each small act from one of them, reveals a little more to the partner, whom effectively, has married a stranger. I for one, I'm enjoying the ride.
