"So you are saying this project is huge?" Her eyes bulged out as the man across the table explained to her the details.
"Well, take that as a new year gift?" He nodded with a wink, while she looked quite surprised.
Mihika sat talking to her boss. Mews as many called him, was actually Ment Wally, who was an expert in his department and handled every deal with care. Many called him - 'the man with an eye' - for his careful observations.
"Now wait a second. You are telling me that we are going to work in a project for some big Australian company but the actually deal here is signed by the government of India? When did Clementa get this good?" Mihika was thoroughly amused and could not help smiling.
"Well, seems like this is going to be fun. But you forgot the best part, you are heading it!" He blinked, as if trying to reflect his satisfaction.
"Wow boss! Any reason why you decided to take this former high-school teacher to head such an important project when she just joined a few months ago?" Mihika seemed surprised, and her curiosity fueled her mind to ask plenty of questions.
"Well, you work hard, have a good report and of all, I can trust you. So there you go!" He nodded and got off his chair, "Enjoy the party!" And left.
Mihika sat near a round counter where a few others were chatting. The decorations around were elegant and colorful. Much to her comfort, it was already ten and she had decided to leave this new year celebration at work at exactly eleven, so that she could reach home on time to celebrate with family.
But soon, she was all alone, and quite bored to the gathering which seemed to lack fun to be called a party for celebrating a new year. She checked her phone. No messages, no missed calls. Did everyone forget she exists?
Mihika felt strange. She could not find her colleagues or her team. It was strange to be in the party where she felt so lonely. She did not know what to do when someone called her out.
"Mihika! Meet ACP Abhishek Singh!" With a same smile Ment introduced Mihika to someone she knew better than him.
Abhishek, who apparently knew everything could hardly cover up his smile when he saw Mihika, whom was thoroughly shocked. He put forward his hand, "Hello, Ms.Mihika!"
"Hello!" Mihika nodded, still surprised. "Mews, why is he in a party meant for corporate?"
"Well, I know you we are actually working for the government of India so they want to make sure that we work with complete integrity and don't want to risk anything and so..." Ment looked at Abhishek .
"I will be handling all the security it takes. Plus, any meeting, transactions, talks or even phone calls, will be under my supervision and that makes me..." Abhishek smirked and looked at Ment.
"The government's representative here! He will be looking into this project on behalf of the them. Great right?" Ment looked at a wondering Mihika who had a like-seriously expression on her face.
"Wow!" She just looked at Abhishek, tactlessly.
"You knew about this right?" Was Mihika's instant question once Ment left.
"Yup. In the morning..." But before Abhishek could explain, Mihika cut in.
"You were in my office to tell Mews about this! This is ridiculous Abhishek. Why didn't you tell me?"
"Well," he winked, "I couldn't afford to lose this cute expression I witnessed a few minutes ago when you found out about it!"
"Well, now for a few months.." Mihika's face lit up with excitement as Abhishek completed the sentence.
"We are colleagues!"
