Abhishek was way too irritated to go back to hospital or his home. And for him, his work was the best way he diverted mind from everything and anything. So, the minute he quit the courtroom he left for the police station. It was tough to drive because he had a few burns on his left hand which made it extremely tough to steer with his right hand because though he used his right hand for most purposes, he was habitual of handling the steering with the left one more than the right one.
Though he had to reach the police station, he did stop at home to get ready and change because he could not go to the police station with his clothes especially with a burnt leather jacket. His wardrobe was dominated by leather jackets and T-shirt along with jeans. Much to the reader's surprise, he had only two sets of formals unlike most men in his profession. Also, he had a fairly large wardrobe for anyone of his age because he is obsessed with buying cloths every now and then.
He then quickly changed into a peach tee which was cover by a black leather jacket and jeans that accommodated well them. He was simple. Not much into latest trends but his style and looks were what a many thought to be the best. Adding up to every possible neatness of his personality was the humble nature and extremely friendly use of speech which left many shocked. It was not easy for many to digest a guy so good-looking, at such a high position and having a fortune which many dreamt of, to be this sensible. For those who would see such a guy the first time, would think of him to be one of the most spoilt on the society.
While driving to the police station, all Abhishek could think about was of Mihika. The woman had given him a reason to think of herself every time they met. Their first meeting was dense. It was full of sparks from both sides. It is not everyday when an ACP is thought to be an eve-teaser. Too add up, she took him all the way to the police station to file a complaint. It was not until his identity was disclosed that he saw that cute side of her when she said sorry to him. Since that very day, her charm was something which had left him astounded. The strong woman in her, a caring sister, a wonderful friend, she had all traits to be called a sensible urban woman.
It was not until the day he came to know about her past, that he felt sorry for her. When he came to know that what she had been through with Ashok, he could not help but feel that she had been through an awful lot. But then his thoughts just rang up every time he met her, "Only a strong woman has courage to keep everything aside and move ahead". Had she wanted, she could have gone back to Mihir, but she didn't. It made him feel really proud of her.
He stopped the car. But not at the police station, but if front of a restaurant. It was the one they had a dinner together. On his way to "cement their friendship", he had taken her out to dine with him. It was not exactly what one can call a date but it was definitely a very memorable day for him. They had conversed with deep affection and she had managed to ask him about his family. Since then, she had charmed him with her smile. It was not like he did not like her earlier, but it was just attraction. Now, it was something beyond that, he had developed a soft corner which soon turned into love for her.
He started the car again and proceeded ahead. On his way, he remembered the day when he came to know Mihika left Delhi. "How incomplete I had felt! No one to meet, no one to discuss, no one to be with". Possibly the only reason he visited to the Iyers, even after her leaving Delhi was to inquire about her return. But soon, he came to know that she was in London. It was though Ishita's diary that he got the address and then, the next day he was sitting in his flight. Very smartly, he had reasoned his visit to be for field inspection of the system of security in London for incorporating those changes into Delhi system, but only he knew why he was going there. The meeting was not accidental. It was all preplanned. In fact he had met Lydia and they had planned it all for Mihika to be alone.
But today, he was all alone. "Why? Why Mihika? Why?". This was all that he could now think. She definitely liked him. Why did she not divorce Ashok then? Why did she chain herself in a relationship which gave her nothing but sorrows? "This cannot be reasoned logically!" - He thought as he got off the car and entered the police station.
It was just like any other day. Officer Sharma was working on his desk with the other officers sliding files and examining others and a few citizens reporting about their issues. This had become a second home for him. Everyday, he enjoyed to be here. It was not the best thing to do for sure but not the worst either. Yes it did not give him the best pay, but the satisfaction he got when he helped people out of problems was contenting. He was proud of himself to have chosen a field where he loved to work and did not work just because had to.
When others noticed his presence, they acknowledged it by standing up in respect. He asked them to sit. And after being inquired about his health, he felt obliged to go to his area, which was his cabin. And much to his surprise, he found Shalini. Shalini was one of his colleagues and friend and had helped him in a few cases.
"This is shocking! Back! So soon?" She asked him with great surprise.
"Yup. How long can a hardworking ACP rest?" He replied with a faint smile because he could hardly don a smile, which usually was his signature accessory.
"I see. Well, sir, how it going with that girl... Amm.. Mihika is it?" She asked him with great interest. Once, Abhishek had told Shalini to be his girlfriend to Mihika who was quite irked by that. Shalini had thus met Mihika.
"Well, how many cases did you solve lady?" He tried to divert from the topic to avoid talking about Mihika. He was not yet settled well to talk about her to anyone.
"Not willing to open any secret. Isn't it? Well, I solved quite a few." She told him. Her phone rang and she had to leave because of some special meeting. Abhishek wished her luck and she quit his cabin.
On her way out she met Mihika. "Hi! Mihika right?"
"Yes! If I am not wrong you are Shalini. Abhishek's... Girlfriend?" Mihika replied to her with a smile. Obviously she knew the other was not his girlfriend.
"You still think I am. Then he's cheating on me! And you are the one!" Shalink replied to her and Mihika chuckled. Mihika could hardly find any other way to reply. The two then went to their own way.
Mihika, from the court went straight to the hospital and from there, she came to know he was discharged. The next she could guess was that he would be at the police station because he had claimed it to be his second home. On her way to police station, she had bought some ice cream. Last time she bought ice cream for him, he had blasted her, this time she made sure, if he does anything like that, she was going to blast him for not listening to her.
"Sharma Sir! ACP sir kahan hain?" She asked as she entered the place.
Officer Sharma smiled because he had seen Mihika after a long time now, "Bahut din hogaye aap aaye nahi? ACP sir cabin mein hain. Aate raha kijiye!"
Mihika replied to him with great civility and then rushed into Abhishek's cabin. He was sitting on his desk with a stern look and upon her entering, she got up and rooted to his place silently.
"Hello! Look what I got you! Ice-cream! Dekho, now don't lecture me about ethics and decorum of police station. I have all rights to come here and especially to you." She told him as she sat on the chain right in front of his and took out of cones of ice-cream she got.
"Just like you have rights to break anyone's heart?" Abhishek retorted. He was annoyed. What was she trying to prove? Was she trying to be nice or just stupid?
"What do you mean? Anyways, I have a good news!" She told him with excitement and then got passed his cone to him which he passed her back. She found it rude but before she could reply he started.
"Look Mihika. I am not sitting here to listen to news from you. I am here to work and that is what I want to do. I am not going to wat anything. Please leave!" He said in a cold voice.
"Tum aise kyun kar rahe ho? Abhishek listen to me no!" She was irked.
"Miss Mihika Iyer please quit my cabin and leave. And please refrain from coming here without any purpose from next time! I hope you get that!" He got up and told her strictly.
Mihika was too irritated now. She walked up to him and was going to shout when his phone rang and he had to turn to attend it. Once he attended the call, he turned back and much to his surprise, Mihika had not left but was looking at him with a reproachful eye.
"Please leave! Now!" Was all that he could say.
Mihika tuned to leave and as she walked ahead Abhishek was pulled towards her and they bumped into each other. He was surprised, then found that a pair of handcuffs had tied him to her and thus he was pulled towards her.
"What is this Mihika?" He asked, annoyed.
"Don't blame me! You won't listen to me!" She looked in the other direction.
"Open it! Now!"
"Stop ordering! I won't!"
"Now!"
"You know what! I won't!", and with that she threw the key in the dustbin.
He was angered now.
"Miss Mihika Iyer. You won't listen to me! This is stupid. You cannot just handcuff me with yourself. You are not divorced yet! No wait, you have not divorced him! That guy! You have not divorced him! You did a completely stupid thing by..." He spoke his heart out with anger and before he could complete his last sentence, she cut in.
"By divorcing Ashok? Really?" She asked him.
"Yes! By div...", he then realised, "wait. What? Divorcing Ashok? Was that?"
"Yes!" She rolled her eyes.
"But you said you wanted to save the marriage!"
"You were there!"
"Well of course I was. But I left after you said yes to give the marriage a second chance!"
"Well I add that - 'Yes! I want a divorce!' I cannot believe you thought I'd do that!"
"Well! Be happy you weren't in my place! But you really divorced him?"
"Yes! Will you please believe it! I did! I have divorced Ashok Khanna. He is out of my life!" And before she could say anything else, he captured her in a tight hug.
It lasted for a few minutes until he had expressed his happiness. "I am so happy Mihika. Finally, you are free. Free from him. Free to live!"
And when they broke the hug she asked, "Are you free to give some girl a little time of your life ACP sir?"
"Well, depends on who the girl is!" He winked.
"If I say she stands before you?"
"Well", he closed the distance between them, "I have to think!".
"You have to think!" She shouted.
"Ssshh! This is a police station Mihika! Control!" He kept his finger on her lips.
"Well then let's go somewhere else!"
"Nope. I am in duty! No compromise there!" He told her like a decent man with responsibilities.
"Hmm.. Okay, free me!"
"What?"
"The handcuff!" She pointed.
"You threw the key. What can I do?" He told her innocently.
"Like you don't have a spare one!"
"Now! How smart are you? Well, let's open it because I have a important meeting in a while and I don't think they allow beautiful problems there. Especially personal ones!" He wink as he took out the spare key out of the drawer and opened the handcuffs.
"So that's it? I leave with two molten ice cream cones and a hug?" She asked him in a assertive tone.
"And an assurance that we are spending the evening together!" He nodded with a smirk.
"Really?"
"Well if you don't want to..."
"Sharp 7!" She announced.
"I will be at your door at sharp 7 mam!" He told with a nod.
"Thank you. And bye bye!" She said as she quit the room.
For a minutes, he stood go and then he collapsed in his chair and sighed, "Man! I love her!"
