Brilliant update, as expected :) i really enjoy ur writing Misha. ur characterization of Rajveer is bang on as he wud do anything to protect Nanina n gang. a very emotional update. looking forward to more updates from u.

Liking the story till now..

Asha was about to continue when the door opened. Prerna sticked her head through the wall and said "Guys, Brig. Chuhan has called an assembly. Come quickly"

Shaad gave Asha a look that said 'We will continue soon' before leaving the room. Asha took a couple of deep breath to bring herself back together, wiped her tears and walked out the door.

Asha reached the main hall, where the rest of the 1st year cadets were standing in attention. She walked next to Abhijeet and stood there. A couple of minutes later Abhimanyu came there and made the announcement.

Abhimanyu: "Cadets jaisa ka aap sab jhantha hai, fresher's ball 3 hafta baad tha, magar issme hum mein ek minor change lana pada" (Cadets, as you all know the fresher's ball was scheduled for 3 weeks later, but there has been some minor changes)

Abhimanyu: 1 hafte mein KMA mein ek inspection hai, jo Col. Bhargav karna wala hai. Is liya unka yaha aana se pehle hi freshner's ball ho jana chaiya. Sara faculty ne mil kar yeah dicide iya hai ki yeah funchion 2 din baad hoga. Dismiss" (After 1 week later there will be an inspection in KMA, which will be taken by Col. Bhargav. That is why we have to have the fresher's ball before he gets here. All faculty members together has decided that the ball will take place in 2 days. Dissmiss.

The day went by and it was hectic with all the talk about the upcoming fresher's ball. Every fresher was excited for the upcoming event, all except 2 people...Shaad and Asha. Shaad was in his own world thinking about all that Asha had gone though. There was a strange feeling in his heart, as if someone was sticking their hand into his chest and squeezing the life out of his heart. Yes, he was hurting. He was hurting because of all the pain Asha had to go through in her life. On the other hand Asha was worried sick about what Shaad would think about her. 'Till this date she had never worried about what others thought about her, but the thought that Shaad would misunderstand her was killing her alive. This did not go unnoticed by their friends, but they chose to stay quiet. Now they were all sitting doen and enjoying their lunch.

Vijay: "Waisa Abhijeet tu kis kay saath jaa raha hai freshner"s ball pe. (Abhijeet who are you going to the fresher's ball with?)

Abhijeet: "Mein nahi jaa raha hoo is ball sall pe" (I am not goingt to this ball sall)

Prerna: "Kyu?" (Why?)

Abhijeet: "kaha nan ahi jaa raha hoo, bas nahi jaa raha hoo. (I said I am not going, means am not going)

Prerna: "Oai, mein ne tujhe ek simple sawal pucha hai, seeda seeda jawav de na" (Oai, I asked you one simple question, alease give a straight answer)

Abhijeet: "Pri, Kyu du mein tu jha seeda seeda jawav. Aakhir, hum aapke hai kyon?" (Pri, why should I have to give you a straight answer, who am I to you?)

Before Prerna could say anything Ridhi said something.

Ridhi: "Ek second. Pri? Yeah Pri kya hai." (One second. Ppri? What is this pri?)

Abhijeet: "Pri is what I call Prerna"

Vijay: "Aacha. Waisa prerna jab hum tujha Pri bolta hai toh tujh jha bada ghussa aata hai, ab Abhi ne Pri bola toh kuch nahi. (Okay. When we call you Pri you object, but when Abhi called you Pri, you said nothing.)

Prerna and Abhi: "Aisa kuch nahi hai" (Nothing like that.)

Ridhi: Hai hai theek hai, nahi bata na hai toh mat bata. Hum sab samaj tha hai. (Ok fine, if you don't tell us. We all understand it)

Prerna: Really Riddhi aisa kuch nahi hai. (Really Riddhi, nothing like that)

Abhi trying to change the subject: "Asha, Shaad tum dono itna chup kyu ho. (Asha, Shaad why are you so quiet.)

Asha: Guys mujhe kuch aacha nahi lag rahi hai. Mein bahar ki thajhe hawa mein kuch der beeith kar aati hoo. (Guys, I don't feel good. I will just get some fresh air and come.)

With that Asha got up and went outside. She was sitting on the bench in the middle of the field when she felt someone sitting next to her. Upon looking she food Shaad there, staring ahead.

Asha: "Baki ki khani sun ne aaya ho" (You came here to listen to the rest of the story)

Shaad: "Aab Naina bua kaha hai" (Where is Naina aunt now?)

Asha: "Tum hai yeah jhan ne ki liya puri kahani sunni hogi. (To know that you will have to hear the entire story)

Shaad nodded his head in positive and Asha took this as a sign to continue where she had left off.

Asha: "Maa ne army chord diya. Aap ne dost, maa, baap, aur aapni purani zindagi sab chord diya. Unki zindagi mein ab sirf 2 maksaat tha." (Maa left the army. She left her friends, mother, father, and her old life. Mom now only had 2 missions.)

Shaad: Kya? (What)

Asha: "Papa ko dhunna aur meri aachi se parvirish kar kay mujha ek saach army officer banana" (To find papa and to raise me proberly and make me an honest army officer)

Asha looked at the star filled sky and closed her eyes letting the tears drop as memories flooded through her mind.

Asha: "Zindagi bhi kitni aajib hoti hai na Shaad. Jis army ne maa se unka bhaiya, pyaar, dost, zindagi, aur yaha tak ki unki issat bhi cheen li, woh chati thi ki unki honi wali beeti ya beeta wohi army ka hissa bana" (Life is so strange na Shaad. Mom wanted her future son or daughter to be part of the same army that took away her brother, love, life and also her respect)

She wiped her tears and continued with the story.

Asha: "Anyway yehi do makshat lay kar maa pauchi Shimla ki ek choti se ghaw par. Waha un no ne sab se yeah kaha ki woh ek army officer ki biwi hai, aur unki pati ek mission par hai Mana ki yeah jhoot nahi tha phir bhi... Who ussi ghaw mein ek choti se school me teacher ban gye. Bohot kaam time par hi maa ne ghaw pay aapne liya ek jhaga bana liya tha. Sab baaacha unse bohot paar karta tha, aur bujurg issat. Mera janam bhi wohi ghaw mein hua. Maa ne mera naam Abhilasha kyu ki mein unki zindagi ki asha thi. Pura 4 saal Shimla meri ghar tha. Mein ne aapne bachpan ki 4 saal Shimla mein beetya." (Anyways, with these two goals, maa went to a small village in Shimla. There she told everyone that her husband was in the army and currently in mission. This was not a lie but still... Maa became a teacher in a very small school. In a very little amount of time, she made a place for herself in that village. She earned love from the children and respect from the old. I was born in that small town. Maa named me Abhilasha because I was the hope in her life. Shimla was my house for years. I spend my first 4 years in Shimla."

Shaad: "Srif 4 saal, kyu?" (Just 4 years why)

Asha: "Kyu ki char saal baad kismat ne hum main parakd liya" (Because after 4 years, destiny caught up to us)

Asha look at Shaad's face and saw he was giving her a confused look.

Asha: "Nahi samjha. Mein samjhathi hoon. Matlab ki 4 saal baad, khum pheer kar Maj. Bhargav ki posting wahi ghaw par hui jaha hum tha" (Don't understand. I will explain. Meaning that after 4 years, Maj. Bhargav got posted in the same village where we were.)

Shaad: "KYA" (WHAT?)

Asha: "Shock laga? Socho maa ko kitna shock laga hoga jab uss mogambo ne maa ko sab kay saam ne bejhaat kiya" (Shocked? Think how shock maa was when that mogambo insulted her in front of everyone.)

Bhargav: "Aap sab iss ladki ki issat karta hai. Aap ko pata hai yeah kis tara ki ladki hai. Aara yeah tho jhutha ki meethi se bhi bhatar hai" (You all respect this girl. Do you all know what type of girl she is. She is worse than the dirt under your shoes)

Naina: "Major mind your tongue"

Bhargav: "Kyu khud ki saachi sun kar mirchi lagi" (Why, you can't handle hearing the truth about yourself)

Naina: The truth. You want the truth, than her the truth. You are a pathetic parson who feeds off other people's happiness. A loser who can never admit to himself. Aap ne toh zindagi mein itna paap kiya hai ki aap khud se nazar bhi nahi mila shaktha" (The truth. You want the truth, than her the truth. You are a pathetic parson who feeds off other people's happiness. A loser who can never admit to himself. You have done so much bad deed that even you cannot look at yourself in the eyes."

Villager: Naina is ka matlab tum inko jhanti ho" ( Naina this means you lied to us)

Villager 2: "Tum ne to hum mein kaha tha ki stif tum Harare pati army mein hai" (you had said that just your husband was in the army)

Bhargav: "ek minute, aap ne abhi kya kahi, pati. Bhai ek kumari ladki ki pati kaisa ho shakta hai" (one minute. What did you say, Husband. How can a single girl have a husband)

This caused an uproar among the villagers present there, and Naina closed her eyes setting her tears free.

Bhargav: "itna hi nahi bal ki is ka bhai ek gadaar tha, aur yeah ladki ne aapni teacher apne jhaal mein faisha liya. Aur to aur usi teacher ne jha kar ek senior officer ko kar dala, is Naina Kay liya. Yeah ladki aur uska nalayak dosto ne us teacher ko bhagne mein madat ki aur in sab ko saza bhi hui thi. Kyu Naina tum ne nahi batiya yeah sab aapnay ghaw wala ko" (Not only that but her brother was a traitor , and this giir also trapped her teacher in her love. To top off that teacher went and killed a senior officer for this Naina. This Naina and her friends also helped the teacher run away for which they had to go through punishment. Didn't you tell all this to your fellow villagers).

Naina: "Mein ne bhaiya aur Capt. Rajveer dono ko beghuna prove kar liya hai. Woh dono na hi to knooni hai na hi gadaar" (I have proven brother and Captain Rajveer innocent. They are neither a traitor nor a murder)

Villager: "woh sab se hum mein koi matlab nahi hai. Bas itna sach sach batao ki tum shadi sudha ho ya nahi" (We don't care for all that. Just tell us truthfully wether you are married aur not)

Naina in a small whisper: "nahi" (no)

Villager: kya. Yeah kya. Hum puri puri din aapni bachi ko aap ka paas chodtha hai, aap in sab ladki ko yeah sab padathi hai. Saadi se pehla baach aur yeah sab" (what? What is this? We leave our daughter with you all the time, is that what you teach all the girls. Have children before marriage and all that)

Villager 2: "yeah sab tum logo ki seher mein chakra hoga, magar is ghaw pay nahi hota. Yaha ki aaurat kay pass laag aur Saram nam ki bhi koi chiz hota hai." ( This all might happen in your village, but it doesn't happen in our village. The women here have some shyness)

Bhargav: "bhai Saab, yeah to seher pay bhi nahi hota, iss liya to Issa army se nikala Gaya hai. Mera maan na hai to aap log issa ghaw se bhi nikal do, warns yeah aap sab ki bahu, aur beethi ko lay kar..." (brother, this doesn't happen in the city as well, that is why we threw out of the army. If you want listen to me and throw her out of the village as well otherwise she will take your daughters down with her...)

Asha: "us Kay baad maa aur mujhe ghaw se nikala gaya. Us wakt mein bas 4 saal ki thi iss liya mujhe kuch Samag nahi aa raha tha. Maa aur mein Mumbai poocha, phir se ek nahi zindagi ki Asha lay kar" (after that we were kicked out of the village. I was 4 at that time so I didn't understand what was happening. Mom and I than went to Mumbai, once again hoping for a new life)
