PART 8

Neha looked around the busy cafeteria to look for Naina. Naina and Neha had decided to meet for lunch as they both had break at the same time. When Neha finally spotted Naina she found her sitting and chatting with some of her classmates. Neha smiled, Naina never had trouble making friends. Looking at her no one would ever think that it was only her third day at her new college.

Neha found an empty table, she placed her books on it and put her bag beside her as she sat down. She opened her bag and started to empty out its contents to find her lunch box, which was hidden somewhere deep in the narrow bag.

Neha froze as she felt a tap on her shoulder. She could feel her hands go cold as the blood rushed to her cheeks.

"Please don't let it be Shiv, please please please..." Neha slowly turned to her left as she chanted the sentence in her mind.

"What's wrong Didi? Why do you look like you just had a big fat karwa kerala?" Naina laughed looking at Neha

"Oh Naina, it's you!" Neha was so relieved that she could not help herself from hugging Naina instantly.

"Okay di! I was right there on the other table talking to some of my friends. No need to get so emotional." Naina giggled as Neha pulled away from her.

"It's not funny Naina." Neha contridicted herself as she let out a laugh too. "I really need a new bag. I have to carry half my books in my arms. It is so narrow and deep, I can't even find my lunch box." Neha once again had her head burried in her bag as she continued to look for her lunch.

"By the time you'll find your lunch I will be finished with mine. I am going to go sit with my friends, you can come and join us if you wish. Bye di." Naina left without waiting for Neha to reply.

"Found it!" Neha yanked her lunch box out and held it as though it was a gold trophy she had won after running a long race. She had a wide grin on her face as she turned to her left where Naina had sat. "Naina?"

"Shiv, Shiv Khanna." Neha raised her head to look up at the six feet tall Shiv Khanna staring down at her with a smile on his face. He waved his hand at her just as he had the day before.

"Oh hi." Neha quickly placed her hand on her cheeks as she did not want Shiv to notice her cheeks turn bright pink. Shiv took the seat in front of Neha and sat on it, as he placed his food tray on the table.

"Neha, Neha Ka...Neha. That's is what my name is." No matter how hard Neha tried she just couldn't help but smile at Shiv. Why was she smiling when just a few minutes ago she was praying and hoping that she would not have to see Shiv today?

"Oh wow, that was so easy. So will you go out for dinner with me?"

"Excuse me?" Suddenly the smile on Neha's face turned into a frown. She looked at Shiv, puzzled, unable to understand him. "I don't know who you think you are... Mr. Shiv Khanna. But I definately know one thing... and that is... I will never date you. Not now, not ever. So please stop trying and just leave me alone." For a moment Neha thought about getting up and leaving. But she had occupied this table first, and she was not ready to lose it Shiv Khanna. If someone had to leave, it should be Shiv, Shiv Khanna. Neha folded her arms in front of her and waited for Shiv to leave as she continued to glare at him.

"Okay thanks, I will pick you up at eight o'clock, sharp. See you." Neha was now more confused than ever before. She looked right into Shiv's eyes trying to understand him.

"I am so sorry, Neha. Neha, right?" Shiv hesistated a moment as he was not sure if Neha would confirm her name to him or not. When he got no reaction from Neha he continued, "actually I was on the phone with the college receptionist. Trying to figure out some course issue. I think you misunderstood what I was saying."

Neha's eyes scanned Shiv's ear and she saw the small cellphone earpiece sitting in his ear. It suddenly appeared to be so obvious. How could she have missed it? How could she make a fool of herself again? At that moment Neha wished she had magical powers so she could snap her fingers and just disappear, or better yet just go back in time and act smarter this time. Neha slowly slouched down on her chair and placing her hand on her forhead trying to avoid looking at Shiv.

PART 9

Neha could feel the lump in her throat grow, she was finding it hard to swallow. With a quick blink of her eyes, her warm tears would come rolling down her cheeks. She tried hard not to, but was unable to stop herself from letting out a small sniffle as she felt Shiv's arm reach across the table to remove her hand that lay over her forehead. She looked up at Shiv with her vision blurred with her tears, she couldn't believe she was now crying in front of Shiv, Shiv Khanna.

Shiv ran over to Neha's side and quickly pulled out his hankerchief and handed it to her.

"I am sorry Shiv, I don't why I am crying? I feel so stupid"

"Ya, I don't know either Neha, after all it should be me who should be crying." Neha looked at Shiv with a puzzled expression. "It was you who I was asking to dinner for, I wasn't even on the phone. It was just after you said no, that I pretended to be talking on the phone. My male ego couldn't handle rejection you see." Shiv looked down, and pretended to be sad while still looking at Neha from the corner of his eye.

Neha let out a small laugh seeing Shiv's expression.

"So you are never going to date me huh?"

"What is wrong didi?" Naina grabbed Neha by her shoulders, as she sat beside her, almost shoving Shiv off the bench. "Why are you crying?" Neha who was too shocked to suddenly have Naina grab her like that, was unable to say anything.

"It's acutally my fault. I made her cry." Upon hearing Shiv's voice Naina finally realized there was someone else sitting with Neha. Naina turned to look at Shiv.

"Naina this is Shiv. And Shiv this is Naina my younger sister." Shiv held out his hand towards Neha for a handshake, but Naina stared at Shiv for a moment and then turned back to face Neha. Shiv pulled his hand back feeling a bit embarrassed.

"Shiv? You don't mean Shiv Khanna?" Before Neha could say anything Naina turned back to Shiv "I am Naina, Neha's little lovely sister. Really nice to meet you." Neha gave Shiv a big mischivous grin. Neha knew exactly what was going on in her mind and she didn't like it one bit.

"So Mr. Shiv Khanna why did make my sister cry?"

"Well, I asked her to dinner and she said no."

"What?" Naina turned around to look at Neha now. "You said no!" Naina made a face at Neha completly puzzled. Had Neha forgotten the plan? "I am sorry Shiv, she is a bit lost sometimes, she will definately go to dinner with you. Why don't you pick the restaurant and I will make sure she is there."

"I think you should ask Neha first Naina. I do want to come home safely after my date."

"I am not going to do anything to you Shiv, you'll be safe." Neha finally spoke.

"That's a Yes!" Naina said looking at Shiv, smiling brightly, feeling very proud of herself for setting up Shiv and Neha's date.

"So now are you going to tell me the secret?" Shiv asked looking at both Neha and Naina.

"Secret? What secret? There is no secret" Neha simply paniced. Did Shiv know about their plan, what it that obvious. What were they going to do now?

"Come on, there must be some secret for both sisters to be so beautiful. I mean Naina, wow, you are simply gorgeous." Naina put her hands through her hair showing her pride as Neha smiled at her sister, knowing well how much she liked to be praised. Now Shiv turned towards Neha and looked directly at her, when Neha felt his gaze on her she turned to look directly into his eyes. "Well what can I say about Neha's beauty, she has left me.... speachless." Neha could no longer look at Shiv and quickly lowered her eyes. She felt her cheeks get hotter, if that was possible.

The cafeteria started to empty as the bell rung loud.

"Ok di! I got to leave, my class is quiet far." Naina gave Neha a quick kiss on the cheek and said bye to Shiv.

Even though Naina was a part of "the plan" as much as Shewta and Natasha, she secretly hoped for Shiv and Neha to actually fall deep in love. Shiv would realize his mistake and Neha could be happy with him forever. With that thought in mind Naina smiled, as she walked away.

"So Neha, I think I should walk you to your class. I don't want you to get lost again." Shiv gave Neha a naughty smile.

"Here is your hankerchief." As Shiv was about to take his hankerchief Neha pulled it back and put it in her bag. "Actually, I am sorry, I will wash it and give it back." Neha smiled, she couldn't believe, that guys who carried hankerchiefs, still existed.
