I know I promised longer chapters but I also said I would update today. This is all I have done and I didn't want to leave you guys hanging. I'LL UPLOAD THE REST TOMORROW**
You know that feeling you get right before something terrible happens? That's how Khushi had been feeling since the wee hours of morning. She sat with that feeling through breakfast and into the early afternoon. So when Nani had them gather to make a trip to the near by temple she had almost declined. However Arnav's words replayed in her head, "Di wants you to come along." It was Anjali's request so she had to go along with it or Arnav wouldn't spear her, for this showed the Anjali was recovering and he would have a May Day if Khushi dared to hinder the process.
"Just stay as far away from Di as possible." He warned as the family settled in the SUV
"Of course." She replied
During the two mile drive it took to travel to the temple the feeling had started to grow. She tried her best to ignore the sinking feeling but the more she tried to ignore it the stronger it grew. She so badly just wanted to tell Arnav to turn the car around and go home, but they were already at the temple.
"Khushi, my dear are you coming?" Nani asked as she was the only one still sitting in the car
"Yes, Nani. I'll join you in just a moment."
Hesitantly she stepped out of the car and ran to Arnav, hoping that being close to him would put an end to the knotting of her stomach. Arnav could sense that Khushi was in distress but didn't want to risk comforting her in front of Di. As Khushi reached out for his hand he turned away and grabbed Anjali's hand instead. So Khushi sucked it up a trailed behind the two siblings.
Everyone had dispersed going their separate ways only leaving the three of them. Khushi stayed three feet away trying to give Anjali the space that Arnav had required she give her.
Arnav's phone erupted with a generic ring tone. Picking up the phone he asked Anjali to give him a minute, it was Aman calling about work.
"I'll be right back Di."
"Take your time. I'll be over there " she pointed across the street
Khushi was immersed in her own little world, and when she had noticed it was nearly too late. She took off in a run knocking Anjali out of the way. She didn't even have the time to scream before the car made impact with her body.
Khushi vaguely aware of Anjali shrieking before the pain hit. But she was too weak to scream.
"Di." Arnav ran to Anjali unaware of his wife laying in a pool of her own blood.
"Where are you hurt, Di?" He asked looking over her body
"Khushi!" Anjali wailed
"Khushi?" Arnav asked confused
"I'm sorry Arnav." She cried pointing at Khushi
Arnav felt his heart stop as he looked at the figure Anjali was pointing at. The figure barely recognizable as there was so much blood. She didn't even look human anymore.
"Stay here, Di." His voice nearly broke
Arnav made his way to his wife as fast as his legs would carry him. This can't be happening. This can't be happening. The thought kept running through his mind. He can't lose her, he needed her. She was the only other person besides Di that he couldn't live with out. His heart felt heavy in his chest, like a weight crippling him.
The pain was almost unbearable. She could hardly keep her eyes open. She want to sleep so badly but she could hear her husband calling her name. She could hear the panic in his voice, she wanted to console him but couldn't muster the strength.
"Khushi! Khushi, look at me baby!" Arnav wailed gathering her head in his lap, trying to wipe some of the dripping blood from her pale face
"Everything is going to be ok. You'll be just fine." He tried to convince himself more than her.
"Anjali... The baby." Khushi struggled to get the words out
"She's fine Khushi." He sobbed
"Better...me...then her." Khushi's voice finally fade out
As quickly as the pain had come it was gone. The excruciating sensation had faded into an almost bliss feeling. The pain was gone and Khushi couldn't be more greatful.
"Khushi come back! Don 't do this, I need you! I don't think I can live without you!" He pleaded as her eyes shut.
The faint sound of an ambulance grew louder as it approached. Arnav tried his hardest to cling to his wife when the paramedics came to take her away.
"Sir, I need you to step back so that I can help her."
"Please save my wife." Arnav cried
"Blood pressure 60/40. Heart rate 67 and dropping..."
"We're losing her."
Arnav had never felt so helpless in his entire life.
