Khushi: NK --

NK: Don't Khushi.

Khushi: Come on, you know you're one of the most important people to me. Bandar, come on, I'm really really really sorry!

NK: Why didn't you tell me?

Khushi: I wanted to surprise you, but I also know you, you would've done everything, gone an extra mile for me. I want to do this by myself, for myself. I..I want to be independent. You know that after...well, but I've begun to trust people and myself again. I don't want to lose it.

NK looked at her angelic face and let out a deep breath. Who was he kidding? He could never stay mad at her.

NK: Butterfly?

He gently rested his hand on her cheek.

Khushi: Always.

She put her arms around him and hugged him tightly. He hugged her back and pinched her cheek.

Khushi: OUCH! What the hell Bandar?!

She moved away from him and glared at him, narrowing her eyes.

Aarav: So am I next in line? For the hug, that is?

Khushi turned to see Aarav watching her with lively eyes. Khushi looked at NK and then back at Aarav. NK knew well that Khushi avoided men as much as she could. NK was probably the only exception. Something in her clicked, she knew she'd have to fight her own battles if she was going to start living here. Even if it meant, dealing with harmless fliration.

Khushi looked at NK and smiled at him and then back at Aarav.

Khushi: Don't hold your breath Kunwar Aarav.

Khushi then walked away and NK burst in such full-hearted laughter. His Khushi was definitely coming back!

Aarav: Ouch. That, was harsh. She's driving me to the brink of insanity. She's magical.

NK: I know Aarav, I know. But, listen to me. Take this as a threat from me to you or words of advice...don't play with her. She's not like other girls, and IF you ever become the reason for tears in her eyes, I won't hesitate to break your neck. Even, if you are my best friend.

Aarav: I won't NK. Chill man! It's just harmless flirting.

Soon after, the party died down. Only NK, Lavanya, Akash, Payal, Khushi and Aarav were left. The Raizada's had made their exit as well.

Khushi: I'm going to go change upstairs. Gigi, Lavanya?

Lavanya: Yeah, let's go.

The girls went upstairs and changed. Khushi and Payal wore the shalwar kameez's they slept in and Lavanya wore her sleeping gown with a robe over it. They had removed all the makeup. Khushi even in her simplicity looked beautiful. NK was sitting on the sofa with Khushi and Lavanya on his sides, while Akash was sitting with Payal by his side. Aarav was sitting on the sofa chair, by himself.

Aarav: Not fair Khushi, not fair at all.

Khushi: What's not fair Kunwar Aarav?

Aarav: Oh God Khushi, call me Aarav. Not Kunwar Aarav, I'm not at the Singhania Palace in Lucknow.

Khushi: Ok - Aarav ji.

Aarav: Forget I asked, stick with Kunwar Aarav, the ji makes me feel 50 years old. And what I was saying was - how can you look so beautiful without all the makeup? You're troubling my heart with your beauty.

Khushi shook her head when she felt a phone vibrate underneath her. She confusingly took it out from underneath her and answered.

Khushi: Hello?

Arnav: I knew I left my phone there. Uh, wait who is this?

Khushi: Khushi, aur aap?

Arnav: Arnav Singh Raizada. Bring my phone outside I'm waiting.

Arnav hung up and Khushi rolled her eyes. Really, he ordered her, not even a can you come, just come. Khushi got up and headed to the entrance.

NK: Who was that and where are you going?

Khushi: My boyfriend whose else?! Really now - do you...

Aarav: WHAT?! You have a boyfriend? Lavanya ! You said she was single !

Khushi: I'm kidding. Ugh, chi. I can't even believe I joked about that. It's Lavanya's best friend. He forgot his phone here, he's waiting outside for it.

Aarav: Khushi, don't do that! You almost broke my heart!

Khushi: I'll be right back.

Khushi walked out the door and saw him standing tapping his foot impatiently.

Khushi: Your phone.

Arnav turned around angry for even having to wait a minute. He snatched the phone from her.

Arnav: Don't you have manners? You're not supposed to answer anyone elses phone.

Khushi: Really? You're telling me off? If I didn't answer your phone, you wouldn't have found it. Don't teach me manners.

Arnav: Shut up !

Khushi turned away before she heard him. She took out the clip that held up her wavy hair, her hair flowed out in soft waves from being up all evening.

Khushi: Rakshaas, she muttered.

Arnav: What --

Just then the wind blew and Khushi's hair flew on to Arnav's face. Arnav closed his eyes and felt the soft tresses caress his face. Khushi turned around by then to face him again when her hair flew on to her face. Arnav's eyes had opened by then. He didn't know what compelled him to reach out and remove the strands from her face slowly with his fingertips. Khushi shivered - whether it was in response to the wind or his touch she wasn't sure.

"What did you just say?" , he asked in a unintentional seductive whisper.
"Woh..ra...ra..."
"Khushi ! Did you get lost, where are you?"
Khushi and Arnav both moved away from each other suddenly hearing Aarav's voice.

Arnav: Oh look, your new boy toy is here.

Khushi: Kya?! What did you just ---

Arnav walked to his car and drove away.

Khushi: I'm here Kunwar Aarav.

Aarav was walking towards Khushi, when he "stumbled". Khushi grabbed his arm to make sure he didn't lose his balance:

Khushi: You're okay right?

Aarav: Has anyone told you, that you look like a rajkumari?

Aarav looked at Khushi's hand, which was still holding on to his arm. Khushi realized and let go.

Khushi: Yes?

Aarav: You made me stumble as I was awestruck behind your beauty. No wonder you keep your hair up, otherwise these loose dark tresses of yours would make anyone want to get lost in them.

Khushi suddenly became conscious and rolled hair up in a bun and kept in place with a clip.

Khushi: Did you need anything? I was just coming inside.

Aarav: Do you purposely ignore my flirtation towards you, or you genuinely don't realize? And I was missing your presence madame; you were gone 5 minutes too much.

Khushi: A little bit of both Kunwar Aarav. Let's go inside.

Khushi walked in with Aarav following behind her.

Lavanya: Oh My God, baby look at Aarav! He looks like a love sick puppy!

Khushi turned around to see Aarav grinning at her.

Khushi: Ok lovebirds, Gigi, Akash Bhai, Lav, and Bandar; I'm going to sleep. Goodnight!

NK: Is this a signal for us to go home?

Khushi: Oh, you don't know? Gigi and I are sleeping over at Lavanya's tonight. It's perfect timing. You didn't know Kunwar Aarav was coming, so he can stay over at yours Bandar.

NK: Sleepover?! Is it going to be wild? I always wondered what you girls did together...

Lavanya: Don't worry about what we do together.

Lavanya winked at him and then high fived Khushi.

The young men took it as their cue and left for the night.

The Jha Mansion was busy shuffling around preparing for the private engagement affair of Akash and Payal. Akash had asked his family to keep the engagement limited to just family. He didn't want extra publicity. Lavanya was from a well off family. She was well known for her modeling and she had an established career as PR manager of AR. NK though not often in India, was a Jha after all. Akash's wedding would cause a ridiculous media frenzy. He was the quiet, reserved managing director of Jha Constructions. He stayed away from all limelight. Now if the media found about his quick engagement, and that too a girl who wasn't of their "high class" status rumours would begin. He hadn't known Payal for long, did know she wouldn't be able to deal with the false accusations and far fetched rumours.

The Gupta's were to arrive any moment now. Khushi and Payal had extended their stay at Lavanya's for another day. They hadn't come home yet. There coming and Payal's engagement the night after today was also a surprise. NK had been busy with the secret preparations and had let Lavanya, Khushi, and Payal enjoy the girl time together. Aarav had traveled to Lucknow temporarily because his parents found out about his appearance in India

Devani: Beta, aap aapni Di aur Khushi ko phone lagaayein. Shashi Bhaisab aur Bhabhi airport se nikal gaye hain. Agar Khushi aur Payal unn ke saath hi ghar aa jayenge tho poora surprise hi kharab ho jaayega.

NK, call your Di and Khushi. Shashi and Garima have both left the airport. If Khushi and Payal come home with them it'll ruin the surprise.

NK: Yes Mom, that's what I was about to do. Wait I think I heard the car, that should be Aunty and Uncle. Let me go receive them !

NK was right, it was Garima and Shashi who had come in. After exchanging pleasantries with everyone in the family, they went to freshen up.

Khushi: We're home ! Phupaji! Where's everyonee?

Deepak: Both of you come here, I have a surprise for you !

Payal: Surprise?

Khushi: What kind of surprise Phupa jiii?!

NK: If he tells you, it's not going to be a surprise you dumb girl.

Khushi: Whatever !

Devani: Payal?

Payal: Yes Devani Aunty.

Devani: Payal, call me Choti Maa now ! I'm going to be your mother in law soon !

Payal blushed, smiled and nodded at her.

Devani: Tomorrow night is Payal and Akash's engagement !

Khushi: Really?! Par..Aunty, Ama aur Babuji...

NK: And that's your second surprise, turn around.

Khushi and Payal turned around and saw their parents smiling at them widely with their arms open wide. They both ran (well Khushi ran, Payal walked) to them and gave them hugs.

Khushi: Babujiii ! Humne aapko itna yaad kiya ! Isliye aap ne phone nahin uthaaya ! Hum bhi sochein, aisa kabhi ho nahin sakta ke aap humara phone na uthaayein !

I was missing you so much ! That's why you weren't answering my phone ! No wonder, I mean otherwise you always answer my phone !

Babuji: Humari Payaliya, idhar tho aayein, aab tho humare ghar ki kuch hi dinon ki mehmaan hai.

My Payal, come here, now you're a guest of a few days in our home.

Payal smiled with her eyes moist at the thought.

Devani: We're going to keep Payal as a daughter as she always has been. Please, don't worry.

Shashi and Garima smiled at Devani.

Devani: We've yet to introduce you to your son-in-law. NK, tell your brother to come home from the office as soon as he can.

NK: Mom I spoke to him, he said he'd be home in half hour. Till then I'm sure Khushi and Payal want to catch up with their parents.

Khushi: Ama and Bauji can take my room.

NK: No, it's not needed. Mom said that she decided with Aunty and Uncle that you guys are shifting in to the guesthouse. It's finally cleaned out and ready for you. Something about how it won't look right that Di and Bhai, living under the same roof after their engagement.

Khushi: You have so many homes in your house, do they always stay empty? By the way how many rooms do you have in your guest house?

NK: Four.

Khushi: But now I'm sharing the room with Gigi. So again there will be a free room.

NK: You have to shift your things over there, Aunty and Uncle's stuff is already there. Di you can start that tomorrow morning. You should go spend time with your parents because after dinner you're going to be busy with preparations for the engagement. You too Khushi, go spend time with them.


Khushi and Payal did as they were told and went to the guest house to spend time with their parents.
