Chapter 8 (A) : Towards the demons

"Please Amma, this is already too much" Khushi tried to refuse Garima without sounding too insolent but it looked like no one was in the mood to hear her, at least for the day.

Today was the engagement day and Khushi had been dressed in a mauve coloured immaculate lehanga which fitted snugly to her slender yet voluptuous body and gave her an enviably impeccable look.

"Stop fretting Khushi and let me do it" Garima chided her and fixed the intricate matching wreath on the side of her hair a little under the shade of the bun, completing the look with just what was needed.

The curled, loose, silky tendrils falling down and kissing the sides of her face were an added beauty.

Khushi remained silent and watched the happiness which exuded in amounts from her mother's face indicating that she was genuinely happy for her.

The salon girls had already done their part and exited and the function had already started off.

The venue was an open air lawn of mediocre standard and had been arranged by Shashi Gupta who was out entertaining the guests.

It had hardly been a month since Khushi had shifted in Delhi along with her parents and was working at AR as a tyro designer.

After what you call some substantial amount of convincing from Khushi, Shashi and Garima had agreed to shift in the city to support their daughter's dream and had they had rented their Lucknow house to some family to further support the financial needs.

Being their Lucknowi self, Garima and Shashi had been a favourite of locales and had readily made several acquaintances in Delhi.

Now as the venue was spilling with people, some from the neighbourhood, some from Khushi's office and a few close relatives from Lucknow the place looked like what you could a could a high on party.

"Uncle, when is Khushi making her appearance? Bhai already seems too impatient to wait anymore" Komal, Abhay's sister walked up and pulled Abhay's leg who was standing next to Shashi and having some conversation which made Abhay give reprimanding glare to his sister.

"She must be here anytime Komal beta. Why don't you go in and check for yourself?" Shashi Gupta replied affectionately.

"Yes of course. I will" Komal said with a childlike glee and lifting her dress a little above the ground made a run.

"Slow Komal" Abhay said but she was already gone.

"It's okay Abhay beta. She's a kid and excited" Shashi smiled gently and something at the entrance caught his gaze.

"Arnav Babua is here" Shashi said, and Abhay looked over his shoulder to find Arnav walking in with Anjali beside him.

Together, they headed towards the entrance to welcome them.

"Namaste Uncle" Arnav greeted Shashi just as he got in hearing distance and bowed to touch his feet once close enough.

The gesture wouldn't have surprised Anjali if she didn't know her brother well enough and eyed Arnav as he touched the feet of Khushi's father.

"Khush raho babua" Shashi blessed him with a warming smile and Arnav introduced Anjali to him as his elder sister and Anjali too greeted the old man.

"I am very happy you could attend the function babua. I had pressed Khushi to invite you while she was silly enough to say you won't be attending as you are too busy" Shashi got into a conversation as he led them inside towards the seating.

"I had to attend this Uncle. After all Khushi has been such a dedicated employee" Arnav replied, keeping all the emotions out of his voice.

"We're grateful you could come" Shashi answered back and excused himself as he found more guests streaming in.

It was now when Arnav gave a proper look to Abhay who was dressed smartly in a black tuxedo and looked ruggedly handsome.

"Congratulations Abhay" Arnav extended a hand at him and Abhay took it with a nod.

"Wishes and congratulations aside, why wasn't I informed about this engagement Abhay?" Anjali threw a direct shot at Abhay who surprised them with a chuckle.

"I am sorry Di. I was completely occupied with my to-be-fiance and her thoughts that it slipped my mind. I and Khushi had decided this in such a hurry that there was no time" Abhay replied with a you-know smile.

"And what excuse you'll furnish us with to explain why you didn't deliver the invitation personally?" Anjali continued while Arnav simply made himself at ease in the comfortable chair placed in circular fashion around several tables which occupied a larger part of the lawn.

"I was out for shopping" Abhay replied and Anjali gave up the efforts because she knew there was no truth going to come out, at least not the type of she was expecting.

As Anjali also placed herself on a seat next to Arnav, Abhay followed the ritual and took a seat opposite to Arnav's.

"I wasn't expecting you here" Abhay addressed Arnav, reading into his face which was unyielding.

"And why did you expect so Abhay?" Arnav asked.

"Because I thought you were busy with your new line of outfits" Abhay replied, his eyes as masked as Arnav's and Anjali could feel the tension in the air.

Neither Arnav nor Abhay were behaving their usual self.

"I made accommodations because attending this was important. After all, my great friend is getting engaged to my employee" Arnav replied with such calm that one could bet over its genuinity.

"I am glad you could come to share my happiness" Abhay replied with a sudden brightening smile.

"And here comes my lady" The words made Arnav turn his neck in direction same as Abhay's and he found her there, looking too beautiful to be of earthly origin.

"Enjoy the party Di and please be around" Abhay asked Anjali and earning a nod, headed in Khushi's direction well aware of the eyes which were boring holes in his back.

Khushi was being led by Garima and Komal in the lawn and as Abhay reached them, he bent forward to touch Garima's feet who blessed him generously.

"Aunty please allow me the honour of escorting my to-be-wife" Abhay requested Garima who looked too happy to relent and Komal just awwed' at the romantic proposition.

As Garima nodded in affirmation, Abhay looked in Khushi's confused eyes and took her hand in his, leading her towards a slightly elevated rostrum which had been erected in the central portion of the lawn.

From the other side of the lawn, Arnav's gaze slid down from Khushi's face to her hand linked with Abhay as she walked with him.

The well-known pang of jealousy shimmered in his veins but damned he will be if he let that reflect on his face.

This is how it was supposed to be and he knew better than everyone this was his choice.

It was his actions which had led to this day and he was still obstinate enough to think he's right in his place and to prove it, he was ready to go beyond all measures.

Arnav Singh Raizada can never be wrong and certainly not today.

"This is entirely your mistake Khushi. You ruined what we had" Arnav repeated the words in his head just to soothe his fraying nerves and the dull ache in his heart.

~~***~~

Right from the second Khushi had walked in the lawn, she could feel him.

He was certainly around. After all her expectations that he would not come, he had come.

But where was he?

As Abhay escorted her to the rostrum and she stood beside her family, her eyes finally found him.

His caramel coloured eyes were fixed upon hers and she could literally feel the mesmerism hanging thick in the air, making it difficult for her to breathe.

She felt his eyes running down the length of her body and coming back to rest on her face.

She felt exposed, vulnerable by the intensity of those eyes.

"Khushi it's our engagement today. Don't you think you should appear exultant than look morose? Aren't you happy?" She heard Abhay leaning towards her and whispering in her ear.

"Of course I am happy" her instinctive reply came and she forced her gaze at Abhay who was smiling down at her.

"Time to exchange the rings" Komal's voice came and Khushi smiled again.

"I hope you'll like the ring Khushi" Abhay's mom said in a sweet voice as she opened the box and offered the ring to Abhay while Khushi felt Garima nudging her making her realise she too had to take the ring from Garima.

"Khushi where is your mind?" Garima whispered to her and handed her the ring.

"Amma this is too early" Khushi said her voice shaky as she held the ring in her hands and looked around to find herself the centre of attention of all the guests.

Her eyes once again found Arnav who was now standing with Anjali beside him and his face was tight, his eyes frosted and his hands fisted on his sides.

"Khushi Bitiya? Tum theek to ho?" She heard his father's concerned voice but was unable to respond.

It felt like her body was giving up.

"Khushi extend your hand" Her mother's voice told her and she did while her eyes still rested upon Arnav's deadpan face.

Even from the distance she could see his whitening knuckles as he tightened his fists.

"Khushi I love you" She heard Abhay telling her and then sliding the cool material of the ring up her finger.

The crowd applauded and the sound was deafening to her ears.

"Now its Khushi's turn" Komal exclaimed in excitement, still clapping.

"Khushi?" someone called her and she finally tore her gaze from Arnav and looked up at Abhay.

There was something knowing in his eyes.

"Put the ring on his finger Khushi" her mother told her again and Khushi nodded, gulping a large volume of air to push down the painful lump which hung in her throat and constricted it.

She held the ring between her forefinger and thumb and tried to steady her shaking hand.

She motioned the ring forward towards Abhay's finger and before it could reach him, she blinked once, twice, thrice and the world blackened.

The last voice which clung to her was Arnav shouting her name and the sound of him rushing to her.

(Flashback Continues)

"Are sure Mr. Raizada that you don't want me to forget all of this?" She asked, laughter tinkling in her voice.

"No Ms Gupta. I would rather reckon you never forget this night. We need to make this night special and memorable"

"How do you intend to do that?" She asked; her breath hitched as she read the desire in his eyes.

"I would rather show you" He replied, nibbling at her earlobe.

"This is too quick Arnav" She moaned back.

"Tell me you want me to stop" He hushed back, his hands pulling down the dress off her shoulder and she shivered.

"I doubt all of this was the part of some plan you had designed to get me laid. You coming to the party, intimidating RK, driving me back home, confessing and asking me to be with you" Khushi replied back, her eyes fluttering as Arnav's lips nibbled at her shoulder blade.

"What?" she heard him ask as he let go of her, his face now grim.

"Is this what you think of me Khushi?" he asked, his face unsmiling and Khushi realised she had overstepped the line of doubt.

"I didn't mean to..."

"I get it Khushi. I have given you that impression of me, I have earned it. I don't know what I was thinking" Arnav replied, stepping back.

"You're right to not believe my feelings"

"I should go now"

"I should leave you alone" Arnav said, his voice suddenly too hollow and he grabbed the keys from table.

"Stop it Arnav..! I didn't mean it that way" Khushi replied, catching him by the arm.

"I am just too...bemused with all these speedy changes around me" Khushi replied and as Arnav exhaled and she hugged him.

"I trust your feelings" She whispered to him and felt him relaxing.

Together, as they stood hugging each other Khushi realised their relation was too new and fragile.

"So, how do we make this work Arnav?" Khushi asked as she pulled back.

"Tomorrow I am heading back to Lucknow with Geeta ma'am. Our company branch at Lucknow is launching a new design of chikan kurtis and I am modelling them" Khushi informed.

"Do you still want to work in that bas**rd's company Khushi?" Arnav asked.

"I can't quit this job Arnav. This is all I have for now. Besides RK won't be in Lucknow. Geeta ma'am is the branch manager" Khushi replied.

"What about your dream of being a designer?" Arnav further asked and Khushi narrowed her eyes.

"How do you know about that? I don't remember telling you" Khushi replied and noticed the smirk forming on Arnav's lips.

"Mutual friends are a great deal of information Khushi" He replied.

"Abhay told you?"

"How does it matter? You want to be a designer and AR can offer you the best place" Arnav replied, crossing his hands across his chest and giving her a smug look.

"I saw that coming Mr. Raizada but I am sorry" Khushi replied, replicating Arnav's look.

"And why so?" Arnav asked.

"Because I want to earn my place Arnav. I don't qualify the place at AR just because we have agreed to be together" Khushi argued.

"That sounds awesome. We being together" Arnav replied, pulling up Khushi's dress and adjusting it.

"But I can't work at AR. I already have a job and I will continue it unless I earn myself another position"

"Khushi.."

"And I hope you'll support me in that. At least give me some chance to decide that my decisions matter to you"

"You matter Khushi and so does your decisions" Arnav replied.

"Thank you then. Tomorrow I'll be in Lucknow and you'll be here. You'll be busy with your work and I'll be busy with mine. I will miss you" Khushi said.

"You will?" asked Arnav, the thought of her missing him bringing a smile on his face.

"I will Arnav. I missed you when you had returned back to Delhi. I was so angry. I wanted to talk to you. Talk about what you have told me in that library of yours but you simply disappeared and then I made myself believe that it doesn't matter. I told myself that you didn't matter but somewhere in my heart, I knew I was wrong. Being around you makes me feel good but that doesn't overrides the factor that you make me go crazy" Khushi replied, walking to the single four poster bed of the room and pulling out her valise from under it.

"I do have that effect on women. I do make them go crazy" Arnav replied in an impish tone, winking at her.

"You better don't provide me the list of girls you have made crazy" Khushi warned as she now walked to the cupboard and pulling out the limited stuff, starting packing them in the valise.

"I don't intend to" Arnav replied and walked to her side, observing her.

"What? Turn back" Khushi asked him.

"Why?" Arnav asked, amused.

"Just like that. I am packing some stuff which I won't like you to see" Khushi replied and laughing Arnav turned his back at her.

Craning her neck to see if Arnav wasn't looking at her she quickly pulled out her undies from the cupboard and stuffed them in the valise.

"That was a beautiful pink brassiere" Arnav commented, his tongue in cheek and groaning, Khushi threw a pillow at him.

"Aren't you getting late Arnav?" she asked him.

"No, I am not. You're leaving tomorrow morning and I am still figuring out how will I manage here?" Arnav replied, now turning at her and taking a seat on the bed.

"You will manage fairly well. You already did when you left me in Lucknow" Khushi replied, making to attempt at hiding her disappointment.

"You think I managed well? I didn't sleep Khushi. Every night I tried sleeping you were there in my dreams and at days I could feel you around as if you were beside. You have no idea what had become of me. I hated you for doing this to me but now when I have welcomed the fact that I need as much as I need my next breath, things are getting better" Arnav replied and Khushi simply stared at him, unable to form words.

It felt awesome to know that her feelings weren't unrequited.

"We'll talk daily and you'll visit me as soon as you can" Khushi replied after a minute's silence and zipped her packed bag.

"That isn't an option. I had already planned on doing that" Arnav replied.

"So what now?" Khushi asked.

"Sleep" Arnav answered, flicking her nose and swiftly leaned in to kiss her cheek.

"You have to travel tomorrow. Sleep well" Arnav said and giving her a craved look, left.

Chapter 8 (B)

Life in Lucknow was as easy as it could get but the days were filled with pining and nights were mostly spend in long phone calls.

This is how Khushi spent her first week at Lucknow, working hard at her new office and as the company called it staying in shape' for the upcoming photo shoot.

There had already been a few photo shoots and her boss, Geeta Malhotra had already told her that she had a bright future ahead if only she knew.

There were two more days for the next photo shoot and as Khushi knew some of those photos were to be published in a national fashion magazine which was going to be milestone in Khushi's still nascent career.

Khushi had talked to Arnav about it and she knew Arnav still wanted her to work in AR but had anyway wished her good luck her for the big leap.

As of now, Khushi was striding down the gallery of RK Creations, her heart flipping in nervousness as Geeta had asked her to meet her in her cabin.

She wondered what was wrong as she had been asked to report instantly.

"Help Devi Maiya" she prayed silently before tapping the door of Geeta's cabin and was asked to enter in.

"Good morning Geeta. You wanted me here?" Khushi addressed the woman in her early thirties who occupied the archetypal ergonomic chair and had a friendly aura around her with an ever smiling face.

"Come in Khushi, take a seat. Actually I wasn't the one who asked for you. He did" Geeta replied, motioning towards the other corner of the cabin which inhabited a trendy deluxe futon and upon which perched RK, sporting a sickly sweet smile.

Khushi's gaze traversed from Geeta to RK and she stood clueless wondering what could have brought him here while she cleverly kept herself away from pondering over the obvious reason.

It must be some business work. After all the man owns the company.

"Why don't you give your sexy legs some rest Khushi? Have a seat" winked RK at her and patted the space next to him, gesturing her to join him on the futon.

"Geeta, I have things to discuss with Miss Gupta. Can you excuse us and ask others to not disturb us until I ask for?" RK addressed to Geeta and busied himself with zipping open his briefcase.

"Be alright" Geeta mouthed at Khushi and left, unaware that Khushi felt everything but alright.

"Hurry up Khushi. I don't intend to take much of your precious time. We can make this quick" RK said, taking out a folder from the briefcase and placing it on the rounded glass table placed before the futon.

"What is this about?" asked Khushi as the carried herself to the futon and took a seat, maintaining a respectable distance between them.

"You have a faint idea about it Khushi. Something which I had already proposed to you but we had intrusive Mr. Raizada to mess the matter there. Now, we can discuss this further without any interference" RK continued, shifting closer to her and blatantly leaning in to inhale the scent of her hair.

"Strawberry flavoured shampoo?" asked RK, shifting even close and as Khushi made an attempt to get up he placed a heavy hand on her thigh, stilling her moves.

"Don't Khushi. Here, read this" said RK, lifting his hand and placing the file on her lap.

Working at her anger, Khushi opened the file and read it, aware of the lusted gaze of RK which ran up and down her body.

"You can't do this RK" Khushi snapped, her eyes fiery as she finished reading the pages.

"News of the day Khushi, I can" RK chortled and leaned in further.

"But I won't do it if you give me you know what" He finished.

"Are you trying blackmail me into it? And you think I would fall for it?" asked Khushi, getting up at once and the file landed on the carpeted floor.

"Oh Khushi, I am not blackmailing you. This is how things operate here. You give me something and I'll help you climb up the ladder of success and if you refuse, I'll make sure you fall and get up never. So, why shouldn't we make this easy for us? Sleep with me and continue with the impending photo shoot or forget the photo shoot. So, what do you prefer?" RK said, getting up too and towering over Khushi.

"This is what I prefer RK" Khushi replied and slapped him hard, her hand hurting with the impact of it.

"People as cheap and mentally sick as you deserve nothing better" Khushi replied and was ready to storm out when RK grabbed her by arm and pushed her on the futon.

"You think Raizada will come here to save you? This is my office and I am going to f*ck you now Khushi. You brought this upon yourself" RK barked and quickly reached for a push button installed a little above the height of the futon, partly hidden by a painting.

"And now no one hears or sees you" He said, pushing the button and Khushi heard a beep sound and the semi-transparent glass walls of the cabin frosted in a second, turning opaque.

"Let me go RK" Khushi stood up and asked, her eyes trying to evade the alarmed look.

"Please me and I will let..."

"Sir, we have a visitor for Miss Gupta" a voice from the intercom interrupted.

"Miss Gupta is occupied" RK barked in the machine and held Khushi by arm as she tried to dash for the door.

"Always in demand Miss Gupta, aren't you?" asked RK as he covered Khushi's mouth and dragged her to the futon while she struggled.

"Time for some fun" RK whispered in her ear as he came over her, pressing her body under his.

Grabbing a chance Khushi bit RK's hands and as he screamed his concentration baffled, Khushi kicked him hard between the legs and RK stumbled in blinding pain giving Khushi a chance to escape.

As she ran to the door, her eyes fixed upon RK who was struggling to pull his legs together and stand she collided into something hard, her breath knocked out.

"Khushi?" the surprised, familiar and naturally rasping voice of Arnav shook her back into senses as she felt him securing her in his arms.

"Arnav" She sobbed in his chest and felt his body stilling all moves and she realised he would have caught site of RK.

"Arnav..no.." Khushi screamed as he brushed past her and strode towards RK.

"I thought you loved your future generations RK but turns out you don't" Arnav growled, taking in the situation and before RK could see it coming Arnav delivered him a kick same as where Khushi had done making him blackout.

"This is how you treat your employees?" Arnav directed his fury at Geeta who had just rushed in the room.

"Arnav, it isn't her fault" Khushi spoke and Geeta simply gave her a thankful look.

"She's resigning from the job NOW" Arnav continued towering over Geeta and stopped only when Khushi gave him a pleading look.

"Let's go Arnav" Khushi addressed him and together they walked out of the building.

"Arnav?" Khushi spoke to him as they reached to his SUV and Arnav hadn't spoken a word all this while.

Khushi was taken by surprise when in reply to her prompting Arnav clutched her arms and pinned her against the door of his SUV his mouth finding hers in an anguished, demanding kiss.

A gasp left her mouth as Arnav plunged his tongue in her mouth tasting each bit of her.

She clutched his lapels for support as Arnav let go of her hands and held her nape to further deepen the kiss.

The raw need and passion of his body was mirrored into Khushi's and she desperately fought to overcome the tickling sensation which was pooling in her stomach.

"Do you realise what it did to me to see you in that situation Khushi? Do you have even the slight idea?" Arnav asked his lips still brushing her lips as he spoke.

"I didn't get into the situation voluntarily Arnav" Khushi replied, angered by his outburst though her head still felt giddy with the arousing kiss.

"I know, I know Khushi but I can't help it. I was scared for a minute" Arnav replied, resting his forehead against hers while Khushi's hand rested above his heart feeling his racing beats.

"Let's get in the car. We already gave them a good show" Arnav commented as he noticed the small crowd which had gathered around them, most of which were condemning the brazenness of the couple.

~~***~~

"The double kicks must have left him infertile for the lifetime" Arnav commented as he drove on the SUV making Khushi flush.

"How do you know I had kicked him there?" asked Khushi, her voice small.

"That was obvious Khushi unless he wasn't trying to grab my attention by holding his organ and screaming his guts out" Arnav replied and smirked as Khushi reddened further.

"So when did you reach Lucknow?" asked Khushi as the wanted a change in topic.

"Early morning"

"And how did you reach my office?" Khushi probed.

"Because I knew you were in the office and I wanted to see you as soon as I can and I'll be grateful if you spare me the question how did I knew your schedule." Arnav replied.

"So, what now?" asked Khushi, looking out of the windows as they drove past the Sikandarbagh Park.

"Now I offer you the job at AR, you shift to Delhi, work as a designer and be with me AND I don't give you the option of putting down this offer" Arnav replied, taking the left turn and driving the SUV on the road parallel to Gomti shores.

"Arnav I can't take such impulsive decisions. I don't have anyone in Delhi. I and my parents have lived here for years. How do you expect me to shift to a metropolitan city? I can't leave Amma and Babuji here" Khushi replied.

"Who said you'll be leaving your parents here? They'll come with us. You can convince them Khushi. You want to be a designer and you have a chance in Delhi. I am sure Uncle and Aunty will support your dreams. I'll talk to them. You need to move out of this place and explore. For your dreams, for me" Arnav said and held her gaze where Khushi see the promises of a better future, with him.

"I'll see if Amma and Babuji agree" Khushi replied and Arnav once again leant in, taking her lips in a kiss which expressed gratefulness and something which neither of them could put a finger upon.

Flashback Discontinued)

Slowly, she fluttered her eyes open and found herself sprawled upon a couch in some room with some people with unclear images surrounding her.

Voices and more voices.

"Khushi, how do you feel now?" She heard her Amma's worried tone and felt her feeling her forehead.

"Water" Khushi uttered, licking her dried lips and closing her eyes again.

"Here, drink slowly" She heard her Amma telling her and felt the cool surface of a glass on her mouth.

Softly, she emptied the glass and once again made an effort to open her eyes.

Once open, she noticed Abhay, her Babuji, Amma, Anjali and Arnav standing before her, everyone carrying a concerned look on their faces but Arnav seemed worst though he had managed to stand aside and make no move at her.

In seconds the events filled in and she recalled fainting in the lawn.

"Do you feel better?" Abhay was on her side in the next second, cupping her cheeks.

"I am sorry" she replied in a broken voice and tears spiralled out of her eyes.

That was all it took Arnav's patience to wear out and he rushed at Khushi, making Abhay back off.

"Shut up Khushi. Stop being sorry and tell me you're alright. Do you need something? Anything?" Arnav asked desperately, surprising no one in the room except for Khushi's parents.

"Arnav, I think I am talking to her. I don't want to be rude but you need not interfere. I can very well.." Abhay cut in as he noticed Khushi's eyes resting upon Arnav's and staying there.

"Just don't Abhay. I know here and she needs me" Arnav's voice was cold and warning.

"Does she now?" Abhay shot back and Khushi noticed the slight cringing Arnav underwent.

"Let me see her" Garima inched forward with a stern face and Arnav had to recede back.

"Shashi ji, will you please get some food for her? She hasn't eaten properly since two days" Garima asked to her husband while her eyes directing an admonishing look at Khushi.

"I'll get it for her" Anjali offered and Shashi nodded in gratefulness.

"I think we should postpone the ceremony Garima Ji" Shashi mentioned, his eyes going from Abhay to Arnav and finally upon Khushi.

"What do you say bitiya?" Shashi asked Khushi who was looking down at the intricate embellishment of her dupatta which went down the length of her body from her left shoulder.

"Even the guests have left" Garima informed in a grim voice.

"Uncle, Aunty, if you don't mind I'd want the ceremony to be done today itself. Khushi can eat and rest and then she can put the ring on me. I want to be married as soon as possible. I have already waited enough" Abhay cut in, his words making Khushi look up at him and he gave her a look she couldn't read while Arnav wanted to be out of the place.

"Theek hai beta. Komal and your mother are in the other room. We can complete the ceremony tonight" Garima replied, giving an enquiring look to Shashi and he nodded after some seconds.

"Here's the food" Anjali said as she stepped in with a plate in her hand.

"Anjali bitiya, can you please help Khushi eat? I and Shashi ji will go and talk to Abhay's mother" Garima requested and Anjali nodded with a smile.

"Abhay beta, you would join us?" Shashi asked and giving a look at Arnav, who had eyes only for Khushi nodded a yes.

As three of them exited, Anjali placed the plate next to Khushi and asked her to eat.

"Chote, why don't yo u leave us alone?" Anjali asked Arnav who was still watching Khushi who had refused a look in his direction.

"Di, I'll feed her" Arnav replied and if Anjali had the doubt about something going on between him and Khushi, it was wiped off.

"I am heading home then. Come back when you feel like" Anjali answered and left without waiting for another second.

"I don't need you help" Khushi said as Arnav walked to her and got on his knees before the couch thus levelling their height.

"Why haven't you been eating Khushi? If you wish to die why don't you resort to some easier methods?" asked Arnav, breaking a piece from the chapatti and dipping it in the gravy, brought it to her mouth.

"Eat" He spoke softly, his eyes holding myriad emotions and opening her mouth she took in the morsel, her lips closing around his fingers and he inhaled sharply.

"You enjoy putting me through pain, don't you?" he asked again as she chewed the food, holding his gaze.

"I thought this was your choice. You didn't want me and I didn't had it in me to stick by your side because it was hurting me too much" Khushi replied, once again taking in the next morsel and as her lips closed around his fingers Arnav used his thumb to caress them.

"I didn't want you? I always did Khushi but you never trusted my feelings. Was it that easy for you to forget 'us' and move on? You're getting engaged to Abhay for god sake. And like all of it wasn't enough to excruciate me, you had to walk into my house and throw the invitation card in my face. Do you how it charred my heart? I have been burning endlessly since then but you sit here and dress up for him and exchange rings" Arnav replied, pain hoarding in his voice and his eyes seared.

"You think I am enjoying all of this? This is how far you have known me Arnav? It hurts me too but I want it because the hurt you caused me then was greater than the one I am going through now"

"That was a misunderstanding Khushi and I had tried explaining you was it of any use when you had already stopped trusting me?" Arnav demanded, forcing another morsel down her throat.

"We are still where we had left it Arnav. That misunderstanding wasn't the reason which pulled us apart. It was you" Khushi replied.

"And this is how you want to punish me? By marrying Abhay? By ruining his life along with ours?" Arnav asked.

"I am not ruining anything Arnav. I want to move on. I really want to and Abhay is the hope. He loves me and he loves me enough"

"And you too love him enough?" Arnav asked, hitting the raw nerve and Khushi winced.

"I don't love him but I will learn to" Khushi screamed, getting up to leave for the door but Arnav caught her by the elbow.

"And what if I say I won't let you? You love me now and you'll love me always" Arnav replied in a scathing tone.

"But what about you Arnav? Do you love me? Or was it just physical for you? You wanted me on your bed, you had me and because you aren't satisfied yet you tell me that I mean to you? Isn't that sick Arnav?"

"I love you dammit" Arnav bellowed, shaking Khushi's petite frame with his arms and his nails dig into her skin with the intensity of his hold.

"What a beautiful turn of events" the comment from the door snapped Khushi out of her frozen senses caused by Arnav's confession and together Arnav and Khushi turned at the door to find Abhay occupying the doorway.

Res - will unres after 26th May 😛
I unres finally :)
Whew! What an update yaar! Loved it! But didn't Abhay have a whiff of this brewing, steaming Arshi chemistry for quite a while? He had witnessed enough, I think, when Khushi had been to Arnav's place with wedding card! Strange, he is still here! What is he aiming at? Or is it that he loves Khushi too much? But yeah, as u say Kiraniya, we will hold our patience & wait for the next update to clear the air 😊

liked how arnav trached to khushi's office at time😊
feeling sad for khushi as she loves arnav & is suffering without him
loved the flashback about their relationship, waiting to read about the misunderstanding which they were talking about.
at one time, i started to hate abhay when he insisted that the engagement must take place & he wants to get married soon
but the last part made me confused...makes me think if really he wants to marry khushi or wants to make arnav reunite..

Indeed what a beautiful turn of events.
I am eager to know how will Abhay take this news.
He is a smart guy, he loves Khushi but now that he has found out that Khushi actually loves Arnav is also in love with her, what will be his step.
Awesome update
Can't wait to read next chapter.
