Chapter 7: Avoidance forgotten
(Flashback Continues)
Arnav Singh Raizada was kissing Lavanya Kashyap.
The site pulled her stomach into knots while hot tears pooled in her eyes.
Why and how it hurt her, she didn't know but it certainly hurt.
As she was about to rush out of the place, her vision already blurred by the tears the bitter voice made her halt in her tracks.
"What the f**k was that Lavanya?" Arnav Singh Raizada was screaming, having shoved away the woman off him.
And it took seconds for Khushi to process the situation. Meanwhile, Arnav glared Lavanya with looks which could combust her in flames but the latter paid no heed to his expressions.
"Come on ASR, don't go What-the-f**k on me. It was just a kiss and I know you enjoyed it" Lavanya's voice had found her with added confidence and Khushi realised it was the liquor talking. Lavanya was clearly drunk and Khushi recalled seeing her at the bar before she had approached Arnav for the dance.
"Enjoyed it? I fu*king loathe it..!! You're drunk Lavanya. Go home before my temper gets the better of me"
Arnav's voice had grown menacingly cold and his eyes blazed.
"I won't go ASR and you know it. I bloody want to be with you" Lavanya replied back, taking a step closer.
"But I don't want to be with you Lavanya and sure as hell you know it already. So just don't try to rub yourself over me and if you're counting the dance we just had, don't. It doesn't mean a thing" Arnav replied, glowering.
"Oh, doesn't mean a thing? Is it ASR? I fu*king know it means a thing. You danced with me cause you wanted that sl*t to be jealous. You don't want me but you want that gold digger? That fuc*ing bi*ch..."
"LAVANYA KASHYAP, don't you dare..!! You swear one more time upon Khushi and you'll regret the day you were born and I so mean it" a ready -to-blow-the-world Arnav said through gritted teeth as he held her by her arms and she yelped in pain.
Suddenly Khushi wanted to be anywhere but here. She didn't know if she wanted to hear anything more.
Maybe she should run away and lock herself in a place no one can find her. That would save her the shock and pain of hearing world talk this cheap about her.
And she tried to run but her mind seemed to have lost control over her limbs.
Momentarily startled by Arnav's words Lavanya stood wordless, looking at Arnav in his eye.
"You like her, don't you? You want her with the same desperation as I want you" Lavanya's voice creaked and there was ample pain in it.
"You don't know Lavanya. Fu*k... neither I know. It's more than a want, or infatuation or similar shallow emotions. It's different. I am trying to avoid it but it finds me, everywhere, always" Arnav's voice sounded lost, almost alien.
"You need help ASR. Go find it. I'll help myself. I need drinks"
And as Khushi sensed Lavanya coming her way, she finally found herself able to move out of the place.
She needed time to process the scene.
~~***~~
The party was still high and Arnav found himself surrounded with people while his eyes searched everywhere to see her.
She couldn't have left. He could feel her.
She was around. He knew.
Maybe it was time to face the situations he has been running from.
He wanted the mess solved.
~~***~~
"Khushi, meet Kritika. She's the head designer of our Mumbai branch and shortly she'd be joining us in Lucknow" Geeta Malhotra, the regional head of Lucknow branch and Khushi's boss introduced the designer to her.
"Hii Khushi, it's a pleasure to meet you. I'll be designing your outfits for the coming show of RK's. And Jeez, I need to point this out. Gain some weight girl. It will give you the perfect appearance, not that you're any less as of now" Kritika replied with an amiable smile and Khushi liked her instantly though her mind was still caught up with the exchange she witnessed between Arnav and Lavanya.
After getting introduced to a few more people Khushi decided it was appropriate enough to slip out of the party and confine herself in the room of the hotel she was staying in.
But for that she needed to accompany Geeta as she herself wasn't familiar to Delhi routes which further meant staying in the party until Geeta decides to leave.
With a sigh, Khushi turned away from the crowd to head for a considerably silent corner and sip her cocktail.
If only she could get her Jalebis, she longed.
"Enjoying solitude, are we Khushi?" RK's not-so-welcome voice broke her reverie and she forced out a kind smile at him.
My boss's boss. She thought over.
"Know what Khushi, I dunno why but I think we can really get along" commented RK, falling next to her and she her countenance displayed confusion.
"Excuse me RK, I didn't get you" she said, and from the corner of eye noticed Arnav approaching her.
Now that was good news or bad, she couldn't decide.
"I mean you're hot and happening and so am I. You're new to fashion world and I don't think you know how exactly things run here" RK continued, oblivious of Arnav who was swiftly heading towards him.
I guess I have an idea, thought Khushi as Arnav's words from the green room crossed her mind.
People in this industry have special liking and fantasies for attitude brimming girls. They would love to mould your snarls into moans'
The thought made a shiver of fear and anger run down her spine.
"Please make yourself clear RK" Khushi whipped out the words, trying to keep the anger off her tone.
"If you demand clarity, then so be it" said RK and inching closer to her as he continued while Khushi wrinkled her nose as the stench of alcohol hit her.
"Sleep with me and I'll make you the main model of our Delhi branch"
The words took her anger to a level she found hard to contain and before she could lash out the anger at him, she heard the death cold voice of Arnav next to her.
"Back off now or you won't be able to sleep with any girl at all" Arnav said and Khushi looked equally shocked as RK, the latter going pale as well.
"ASR..I.."
"Fu*k off or I'll have to put my words in action" Arnav cut in and RK knew better than to stay.
Giving a sceptical look at Khushi he walked away leaving the two to themselves.
"If you want me to thank you for this, do know I was more than capable to deal the matter myself" Khushi cut in even before Arnav could speak and she noticed ghost of smile on his otherwise piqued face.
"Let's drive you home. You look tired" He said out of everything she was expecting him to.
"I can.."
"You don't have a vehicle Khushi and you don't know the routes. You can call your boss and tell her you're leaving with a friend" Arnav cut in, his tone final.
A friend? Thought Khushi.
That was news.
Though Arnav wasn't expecting her to but she conceded without further arguments.
~~***~~
"We aren't friends" Khushi broke through the heavy silence in his SUV and he didn't respond.
"How do you know my hotel?" She asked again after a minute's silence and earned silence.
"How do you know I wasn't going to agree to RK's offer?" and that did the trick.
He threw her an angry glare and despite all the tension, she wanted to laugh at his expressions.
"Just because I refused your offer of sleeping with you, doesn't mean RK didn't intrigue me" She continued, knowing well she was treading on thin ice.
After being a witness to his and Lavanya's exchange she somehow felt less intolerant of him.
"We need to talk" He said in a voice as small as whisper as Khushi gave up the efforts of digging up another conversation.
"I don't like the sound of it" commented Khushi.
"We can be friends" He replied, giving a quick side look and she looked surprised by the sudden admission.
"I think it's time I give up the avoidance Khushi because it yields nothing. I tried to stay indifferent, be rude and be everything you'll hate. I thought the feeling will go away but it bloody doesn't" He continued and Khushi tried to process his words.
The words said in the library of Sheesh Mahal echoed back to her.
Yes, I want you physically but have you ever wondered why? I have had better girls but none of them could ever make me feel what you have. You bloody make my heart go crazy. You affect me in ways I do not even understand. You're different. You are special and I want you. Do you understand? I want you close enough to me. I want to be with you. Now does that make sense? Is it enough reason why do I care? If it's enough, just stay away from Abhay'
"Khushi, can we just turn our backs to everything which took place before you embarked this SUV? I want you to be with me" He said, resting his gaze at her as he pulled into the garage of her hotel.
"Am I once again supposed to forget everything you just said? Like the previous time?" She asked her tone as serious as it could be.
"Khushi..."
"I saw you kissing Lavanya" she cut in and looked up in his eyes to read something she couldn't decipher while Arnav ran a frustrated hand in his hair.
"Khushi I wasn't..."
"And you danced with her...seductively" She cut in once again and noticed him closing his eyes for a second, as if hunting words to start with.
"Do you hate me?" He finally asked, once again asking her a question she didn't expect.
"Good night Arnav" She whispered and undoing the seatbelt, disembarked the SUV.
~~***~~
"You can't leave without answering me" He said in a louder voice, following her out of the SUV and grabbing her wrist.
"I don't have an answer" She replied.
"You have an answer Khushi. I see that in your eyes but you are avoiding it. Overcome the avoidance" He said, now holding her by shoulders.
"I am tired. I want to sleep Arnav" She replied, tears welling in her eyes as her resolve grew weak.
She didn't want to comply to his offer.
She didn't want the world to think of her as a gold digger, like Lavanya said.
She wants to be a designer, a famous designer.
Designer? Now she knew that wasn't a matter concerning immediate thought but that reminded her how unsatisfying her life was.
She was thinking abstract.
How can she be with Arnav Singh Raizada?
He was a man with fortune and she yet had to start her own.
Aren't they poles apart in their lives, beliefs and thoughts?
"Can I come in?" He asked, sensing her indisposition.
"To your room I mean. We can sort this out" He said and she nodded nonchalantly, still in thoughts.
~~***~~
"You deserve better, maybe a suite" commented Arnav as he took in the interiors of her room and perched upon the two-sitter.
"I choose to ignore the comment" replied Khushi as she looked around for a seat but found none.
The two-sitter in the room was the only furniture meant for sitting, except for the bed in the room.
"You can sit here" Arnav said, shifting in the seat to provide her space and after a seconds thought she complied.
"As I was..."
"I am leaving tomorrow" Khushi cut in as Arnav began, her gaze resting upon her hands.
She was in a hotel-room, sitting next to Arnav Singh Raizada with their bodies almost brushing to each other.
This was certainly something she hadn't envisaged for this night.
And here he was, offering her to be with him while she hardly knew him.
"Leaving?" repeated Arnav, with disbelief.
"Please do not play surprised Mr. Raizada. It's not something new to you. If my memory serves me right, you had left me alone in a library back in Lucknow in situations more complex than we presently are" Khushi replied, her tone disconcerted.
"Back to being Mr. Raizada, are we?" Arnav asked with a half-smile and Khushi looked away, her gaze momentarily resting to the wall clock.
10:38 p.m. it said.
"I am sorry to mention Mr. Raizada but I guess you're getting late. Would you want to leave?" asked Khushi.
"Stop it Khushi. If it is about Lavanya kissing me, do know it wasn't my mistake. She asked me if we can step down the dance floor and have a walk to which I agreed. We were walking when she suddenly turned at me and kiss..."
"It's not about the kissing" screamed Khushi.
"It's about you" She continued.
"I don't know who you're. I don't know what you want. I don't know a thing about you but you affect me. You touch me and I am lost. You scream at me, shout at me, you manhandle me and but I can't hate you enough. I don't want to think of you but you always invade my thoughts. You intimidate me yet you soothe me. You admit I affect you in the same way but you want me to overlook it and then you come and ask me to be with you. How do I speculate this? How do I know you won't once again ask me to overlook all of it?" finished Khushi, tears moistening her eyes while Arnav's face remained impassive all this while.
Her words gave him an insight to her thoughts but what stood out was admission of her feelings to him.
He does affect her and she isn't as indifferent to him as she portrayed herself to be.
She likes him too and he likes her.
The reason was enough to him.
Inching closer, he cupped her cheeks and wiped the lone tear off her cheek making her look up at him.
"I can't stand the sight of tears in your eyes Khushi" He whispered.
"And what if I say I never really wanted you to forget those words I uttered in my library?
"What if I say every time I hurted you, the damage was bilateral?"
"What if I say ever since my eyes found yours, I have longed for repose?"
"Will these reasons be enough for you to be with me?"
"Say it Khushi" He urged her, his hands cupping her cheeks and his thumb caressing them.
"I have let down my guard Khushi, it's your turn. Have a glance in your heart and tell me what it says" continued Arnav, his eyes never leaving hers.
"I don't know if it's the right thing to do but it's worth trying" whispered Khushi with a fluttering heart and leaned in to plant her lips on his.
She heard him gasp momentarily at her boldness but he instantly yielded to the kiss.
"You're more offering than I assumed you to be Khushi" He whispered feverishly against her lips and took charge by holding her face in place and deepening the kiss.
As the need of air overrode the desire, they pulled back from the kiss.
"Do you feel it too?" He asked, resting his forehead against hers.
"Sure as hell, I do" She confessed, smiling.
"This unseen mesmerism between us which draws us together" they said in unison.
"It's been there ever since I first saw you" said Arnav, inhaling the scent of her hair and calmness washed his senses.
"Are sure Mr. Raizada?" she asked, her eyes glinting.
"Excuse me?" asked Arnav, cocking a brow at her.
"That you don't want me to forget all of this?" She asked, laughter tinkling in her voice.
"No Ms Gupta. I would rather reckon you never forget this night. We need to make this night special and memorable"
"How do you intend to do that?" She asked; her breath hitched as she read the desire in his eyes.
"I would rather show you" He replied, nibbling at her earlobe.
"This is too quick Arnav" She moaned back.
"Tell me you want me to stop" He hushed back, his hands pulling down the dress off her shoulder and she shivered.
(Flashback Discontinued)
"Chote" Anjali's voice pulled him back from the sea of memories and his eyes shot open.
"Di..?" He asked, taking in the surroundings and realised he was in his log cabin at Shantivan.
"Are you okay, Aman said you sounded depressed?" asked Anjali, reaching to him and feeling his forehead.
"Aman?"
"Yeah, he had come with some documents to be signed. What's wrong? You look lost and what is this? When are you planning to shave? You look...messed" said Anjali her voice laced with concern.
"Sorry to disappoint you Di but I am okay. You don't need to send your brain in hyper mode. Relax" replied Arnav, his voice sarcastic.
"Indeed you're okay. You haven't shaved since a week, you have been drinking and smoking and when was it the last time you left the house?" asked Anjali in a heated tone.
"Leave me alone Di" said Arnav, running a hand through his hair.
"I found an invitation card in your room. Abhay is getting married to Khushi and why don't I know? Neither you nor Abhay informed me? And Khushi, even she didn't tell me. I met her today in the mall" Anjali went on while Arnav maintained a deadpan face.
"Tomorrow is the engagement, the card said" Anjali stated.
"Don't you think I deserve an explanation Chote?" yelled Anjali.
"Abhay sent me a message. He wants you to attend the engagement along with me. He has apologized and said he was too busy to come and personally invite us" answered Arnav.
"Chote y.."
"I need a bath Di" cut in Arnav and rising out of his expensive, eclectic, ergonomic chair sauntered out, leaving a fuming Anjali in the cabin.
