Part 7
Randhir saw her lips part in invitation, her eyes were closed, he could feel her breathing hard and he could bet that her heart was racing as quick as his. She inched forward a little bit more towards him and pulled his face closer to hers, slowly leaning towards him, placed her lips on his.
He could feel his lips burn with the desire to mate with hers, the touch was electric as if they had kissed for the first time. He pulled her closer to him pressing his lips further into her, deepening the kiss, carving her taste.
Sanyukta felt as if she had been transported to some other world, a world where nothing could go wrong, a world where there were no trials, no tribulations, a world far from reality. She felt herself being pulled further and further into the vortex as Randhir's lips played havoc with her senses, his one hand was now in her hair pulling her closer still while the other held her tight against him on her waist, she felt her own hands lift off their own accord and wind themselves around his neck, her hands traveled further up savoring the feel of his silky hair, her heart beats erratic.
She felt his tongue against her lips urging her to open up to him but something was holding her back. She opened her eyes to see Randhir's lips wanting to make love to hers but the joy inside her gradually transformed into fear, angst.. All of a sudden she was feeling uncomfortable. She felt his tongue against her lips and all the horrid visuals came back to haunt her. She could see his tongue digging deep into Vidushi's mouth. Anger and hurt seethed into her as she struggled to get the image out of her mind. Unable to bear it any longer, she pushed Randhir away with all her might.
He stood there, visibly shocked. Her face had turned pale and he wanted to know why. He took two steps towards but she stopped him.
"Don't", she said, staring down.
"But what happened?", he asked, concerned.
"This was wrong. Everything is wrong", she said in a shaky voice.
"Sanu.. Are you okay?", he asked, walking towards her and placing his hands on her shoulders.
She jerked them off in an instant glaring at him. Driven into the vortex of her emotions, she didn't realize it was all a fallacy. She was falling into his trap all over again. The sky had darkened and the clouds thickened and it was only a matter of time before the lightning show started, before the storm broke into their lives.
"Nothing happened here. NOTHING", she said.
"What are you saying!"
"This...", she fought back a tear as she was speaking," This never happened. We are not meant to be".
...
A cunning smile spread over the intruder's face as she witnessed her mortal enemy losing everything drop by drop. Her petite figure hidden behind the wall had gone unnoticed by the two people who loved each other immensely. Vidushi vowed to never leave Sanyukta at peace. She took everything away from her, her scholarship, her internship and even Parth. It was her time to repay. She tiptoed down the stairs with a victorious smile playing on her lips.
...
"What did you think haan? You'll give me a stupid letter. Filmy baate sunaoge! And I'll fall for it? I'll forgive you? NEVER", Sanyukta growled, tears blurring her vision.
"Sanu.. Look at me...", Randhir whispered, desperate to get her back.
"Every time I look at you my heart breaks. All I can see is that horrendous moment where you kissed that witch", she continued, tears refusing to cease.
"I DID NOT KISS HER! ", he shouted.
Darkness engulfed them as the faint moonlight was veiled by the evil dark clouds mirroring the burst of emotions inside them. The hurt evident in their eyes was gradually overpowered by infuriation.
"What do you think? I am blind? I SAW WHAT YOU DID! You know what! I was wrong to think that a man like you could change", she said, her eyes boiling with rage, "A man like you who can't even respect his mother. A man who treated her like shit! How could I expect that such a person could me!"
"SHUT UP! JUST SHUT UP I SAID", he screamed, raising his finger at her, "Enough! Not another word!"
Blinded by grief and agony, she didn't realize that she had struck the wrong chord which may leave their relationship wounded permanently. The loud thunder from the sky acted as an ignition to the growing fury inside them. The unclouded love between them was slowly transpiring into bonds of acrimony.
"Why should I? You can never understand a woman's emotions, the pain you inflict on others. You never understood your mother. You are just ..."
"I SAID SHUT UP!".
He shut his eyes to swallow the anger inside him. The moment he opened his eyes, she knew it was over. It was beyond any sort of repair. It had broken.
"You know what Miss Sanyukta Aggarwal? You are right. We are not meant to be. We were NEVER meant to be", he declared, his face expressionless.
"Good that you realized", she replied, successfully hiding the shock inside her.
"We are over"
"Yes. Done and dusted"
"Being with you was a mistake"
"It was a nightmare for me"
"Good then"
"Ya. Good"
The rain pummeled them as they stared into each other's eyes. The surface rippled and popped from the rain but they didn't move an inch from their place.
...
Protected by the fortress of pillows, Sanyukta tried to shush the drizzling sound of the heavy shower outside. She waited for her heart to calm down but sleep was far from coming. She turned to look at Kaustuki sleeping peacefully on the other bed. Frustrated, she stared at the ceiling above to pass her time. All she could feel was the warmth of his chest when he embraced her, the everlasting affection in his voice when he took hername, the passion with which he kissed her...
She wanted to yell, to scream his name at the top of her lungs. She wanted to jump out of the window, go to his room and pounce on him. But she couldn't do it. Her entire body was frozen, as if encased by a thick block of hail. The storm was just not outside. It was right inside her mind.
...
He twisted and turned on his bed but all his efforts were futile as her visage was embedded on his eye lids. All he could feel was the tenderness of her fingers when they touched him. What had happened? Who had cast a bad eye on their relationship? He sat up straight on his bed, staring outside the window witnessing the shower outside hoping they would wash away the pain along with them. She had wounded him mentally with her words. Was that what she thought about him? Even after knowing all about his relationship with his mother she ended up uttering those words? How could she? However hard he tried he could not get her out of his system. He felt lifeless.
...
"Are you okay?", Parth asked Sanyukta for the hundredth time that day. She brushed him off again.
"I am fine", she said and walked away.
It had been a week since she had not attended her classes. Even that day, all she wanted to do was weep inside her blanket but Kaustuki forced her to come out of her depression zone and back to reality.
Her eyes were searching for just one person who was absent since morning. She wondered if he was all right. From Jiggy she got to know that even Randhir hadn't attended any classes since that fateful day. It had been an entire week since she had had a look at him. Her pretentious smile veiled the disappointment and turmoil inside her as she hid her tears behind the machines. She was falling into the abyss of despair as she reminisced the last couple of days. She was pulled out of her thoughts when she was hit by a chalk on her head.
"Yes... Yes Sir?", she answered.
"Stop day dreaming Miss Aggarwal! Where is you lab partner?"
"I don't know. Sorry Sir", she replied quickly.
The professor would have continued his torture on her if her partner hadn't appeared behind her.
"Mr Shekhawat. Care to explain why you are 40 minutes late?", the professor growled.
She felt as if she forgot to breathe as she turned around to look at her man. He was standing just behind her apologizing to the professor. She noticed the dark bags under his eyes similar to the ones under hers. Her eyes managed to move to his swollen fingers, his knuckles, a dark shade of red. Her heart ached as she witnessed him in such a condition. He was hurting himself physically as well. Her glance moved back to his eyes and she caught him staring at her with the same questions, the same concern, the same affliction.
They hadn't recovered from the storm as quickly as the sky.
As she was filled with hopes of reconciling with him she saw Vidushi ran up to him and cling to him. To her utter shock Randhir didn't wriggle out of her hold. In fact he stood there calmly. That was enough to handle for her. Despite whatever lay underneath the pretty exterior, Vidushi was still stunning. And that thought was too disturbing. The horrendous visuals came back to burn her already scarred soul. She turned back towards her machines, her anger camouflaging the pain and jealousy creeping inside her.
He was disappointed when she looked away from her eyes. That's when he noticed the clingy girl beside him. He shoved her hand off and glared at her.
"Stay away from me you witch!", he warned her.
He turned towards the only girl he wanted to look at. He was surprised to see her talking with the professor making a serious face, who nodded back at her.
The next few minutes were a shock to her giving him pangs of pain. She was stabbing him indirectly. How could she ask the professor to change her lab partner? That was the only time he could have been with her. Didn't she want to mend their equation? It ached to see her with Parth. She knew how much he abhorred it!
...
The clouds had disappeared and the sun smiled at them brightly, giving new hope and faith.
She closed her eyes and tilted her head towards the sun. She had to get it together. A lot had happened and continued to happen, but that didn't mean she could just let it drag her out and pull her under. Whatever she was feeling at the moment was natural. It would wither away with time. She walked towards her hostel unaware of the fact that two teary-eyes orbs were watching her retreating figure, vowing to himself that he would make her realize his worth in her life.
