Dear DT team,
As a member of IF I am taking the liberty of writing to you more as a humble request than a point of view.
This morning while reading the FF of a very popular writer I came across a note of hers informing the readers of her decision to move to a blog because of the spamming' issue. In her note she has very maturely explained her reasons for reluctantly moving to a blog for she is left with no choice if she wants to remain sensitive and impartial to her readers.
In the light of the above development I would sincerely like you to look at this so called spamming' issue dispassionately. I have a few thoughts I would like you to consider:
1. The word Spamming implies irrelevant or unsolicited messages sent over the Internet, typically to large numbers of users, for the purposes of advertising, phishing, spreading malware, etc.. Does asking for an update amount to spamming? Though unfortunately I have never asked any writer to do that!
2. I am of the firm belief that the India Forum provides great opportunity for fans to interact and keep the flame alive of their heroes/shows etc. If there is no interaction the portal will be a 'dead and boring' place. Any interaction that does not hurt people's sensibilities and is not bordering on obscenity should not invite severe penalty.
3. The writers of OS/SS/FF play a very important role in keeping the forum buzzing. They are one of the main reasons why members visit the forum. The posts made by members are the cornerstone of the forum. The more popular the writer the greater number of posts on their threads, but obvious. Should the writers be punished for being popular, should they be pressurized to report their obsessive fans, should they be driven away from the forum for no fault of theirs?????
4. Regular feedback and encouragement keeps our wonderful writers motivated. Readers express their love and gratitude in myriad forms and words to make their writers feel special. We, the readers, have no other avenue for expressing our selves besides posting our views on the thread. The writer has absolutely no control over what readers write and how often they write.
5. I cannot fathom how any honorable writer can, without worrying about hurting the sentiments of its fans, stop people from writing on the thread. S/he can only humbly request the readers from refraining from overloading the thread. Also I don't understand (please do explain) why requesting your writer to write amounts to spamming.
6. I would be very disappointed if our wonderful writers would stop putting their works on IF due to reasons beyond their control. Instead of driving people away we should be embracing and attracting a larger community.
7. Therefore I request you in good faith to look into the spamming issue very objectively. My intention is not to challenge or hurt but to prevent fellow members from leaving us, unnecessarily.
Thanking you,
Sincerely.
Faffy
