Astha was confused with her uncharacteristic behavior towards Shlok. I have never felt this way about anyone? Why do I get drawn to Shlok? What is it that is creating this pull? Does this mean I can't resist him? Is this even right? I think I should step back a little bit and think rationally. I think things are moving too fast. I didn't even meet this Shlok till a couple of days back.
In this room Shlok was also having a mental battle within himself. Even when I was with Swati (his ex) I never felt this strong urge to protect her or nurture her. Why do I feel so strongly towards Astha? He thought his feelings towards Swati paled compared to what he felt for Astha. Does love at first sight really exist? And what if I get hurt again? I think I need to take sometime and not rush.
Little did the love birds know that destiny had it's own plans...
The next day Anjali called Astha. "Beta I know your semesters have just got over and you are having a break. So you should now help me with all the arrangements for this engagement. There is so much to be done and so little time."
"You don't have to tell me all his aunty. Just let me know what needs to be done and see how quickly it gets done."
Anjali smiled and called Shlok who was in his room. "Shlok I know you were to join Baba today. Postpone it by another two weeks and start after the engagement. You and Astha are going to take care of all the errands for this function. You know how Baba is expecting this to go on really well."
"OK Ayi."
First both of you are going to check some 5 star hotels for the engagement. Suresh has got back with some of the venues that are available. I want you both to choose the best for Varad.
Bappa! Why are you doing this to me? Only yesterday I was thinking about stepping back and now this?
God help me. Now I will have to stay around this small dynamite the whole day? Wish I could keep my hands to myself.
They both went towards the car and started at the venues. Astha rejected the first venue outright and Shlok the second. They had two more hotels to cover. As they entered the third hotel both of them had a satisfied smile. Maybe this will work out.
The manager helped them saying " Sir please go to the top floor to our special banquet hall. The lift is this way. Please go on while I bring our chef as well."
Shlok pressed the 30th floor and stepped back. As the lift passed the 10th floor the lift suddenly stopped and everything was blacked out.
"Shlok! The lift has stopped. What do we do now? What if we are stuck here for days? I can't go on without food."
"Astha calm down! First of all I am going to press the emergency button and we will get help. We most definitely won't be stuck for days."
Saying this, he pressed the emergency button using the light from his mobile. "Waise bhi...you remember only food and not even your parents even during dire situations? You are such a unique piece." He smirked.
"What nonsense? I am no such thing." Suddenly the lift jolted pushing Astha towards Shlok but still the lift did not start.
Astha went right into Shlok's arms. She clutched his shoulders in fear while Shlok was looking at her, admiring her innocence and beauty. He turned her back towards the lift walls and placed his lips softly on hers.
Astha was shocked and an electric current shot up through her body. She felt a zing of pleasure but was too shy to respond back. Shlok was confused. Astha was not rejecting his advances nor was she responding. Why?
Just as he was about to deepen the kiss, the lights came back and the lift started moving. Both of them broke the kiss. Astha looked away. She was blushing and she could still taste Shlok.
"I.."
"Shlok..."
Both of them started at the same time and broke off awkwardly. Astha lowered her eyes and willed her racing pulse to come down. Before either of them could say anything, the lift doors opened and they went into the most beautiful hall.
