Part 39 Shlok and Astha had known each other since their teens. Shlok was in his high school when he first met Astha as a neighbour. Astha was a pretty girl who was in her 7th grade when she and her family moved nextdoor to the Agnihotris. Ever since they have been good friends and Astha visits the Agnihotri household regularly. Her chirpiness and innocence was liked by Anjali and Niranjan. They considered Astha to be the daughter they never had since Sholk had only one elder brother. Time passed and Shlok left to the States to do his graduation and masters.
After successfully completing his education, Shlok was returning to India today. He was really excited to see his Ayi, Baba, and brother. As he got down from the car and entered the house a small dynamite just came crashing towards him. He fell down on that small scrap of a girl almost crushing her in the process.
"Ouch" a female voice cried. Astha didn't know what hit her in the first place. She as usual came to spend some time with Anjali ji and was rushing back home when she hit on a solid rock (or was that a human rock?) She slowly opened her eyes and stared right into a pair of chocolate brown eyes. The musky, clean scent hit her nostrils and she lost track of time and place.
Shlok was equally captured in the hazel eyes, the small nose, and the luscious lips. He was taken aback by his swift reaction to this girl. As they both looked realization dawned in their eyes.
"Shlok!!" "Astha?" Both of them chorused in unison. Shlok realised he was still leaning on Astha and his hand was on her waist. Astha blushed furiously and tried to get up. She was feeling ridiculously shy and lowered her eyes. Shlok got up and steadied Astha. Shlok and Astha wanted to ask so many questions and had a lot of catching up to do. Just then they heard Anjali's footsteps coming to check what all the noise was about.
Astha pulled away her hands hurriedly and looked away from Shlok. Sensing Astha's departure Shlok quickly pulled her and said " I never realised you have grown up to be such a beautiful girl Astha. Run along now; I will come to you later." Astha's cheeks turned red and she knew she was equally caught in this thunderstorm. Before Shlok moved on, she pecked him on his cheek and ran away without a backward glance.
Shlok was shocked and managed to arrange his face into normalcy by the time his Ayi came to welcome him. Shlok thought to himself "Wait till I get to you Astha..I may not stop with just a peck on your cheeks."
