Chapter Thirteen
A New Sensation
"I'll make chai," Khushi announced to everyone before heading to the kitchen after making sure that Babuji had settled comfortably on his bed. She was so happy that Amma had warned her not to make jalebis, to which Buaji andBabuji laughed while he smiled.
"Pata hai, Arnav bitwa, Khushi hai ya dukh hai, she makes jalebis that serve the whole neighbourhood," Buaji had said.
She recalled what she said on their way to the hospital earning a dazzling smile from him which was enough to keep her quite for the rest of the way. Arnav had taken care of all the formalities and fees in the hospitals without uttering a word about the money to the family not wanting to burden them, or them taking it as a kind of a favour. It had been a duty for him, period.
.
.
"You should go to work now; you're getting late," Khushi said to Arnav as he finished his cup of tea almost scolding him. Arnav looked at her amused as he stood and bid them a goodbye.
"Khushi, walk me to the door," He said in a low voice as he stepped pass her while she followed him thinking of what he would ask her.
"Yes?" She asked impatiently as they reached the door.
"Call me if you need anything," he said smiling at her standing at the main door. She just smiled nodding as she felt him coming a step closer, but she did not move anticipating his next move. She felt a strange excitement rush inside her to know what he was up to, and the next moment she knew. She got the answer as his lips brushed gently on her forehead for a second. "Take care," he said earning a sheepish smile from her before leaving to work. Khushi narrowed her eyes looking at his retreating back.
_______
Khushi busied herself in the kitchen with her Buaji to prepare lunch trying not to think of a certain moment which captured her being, made her heart beats at a rapid rate and hitched her breath. He was so close.
Khushi headed to her parents room to ask Garima if she should serve the lunch or not to be stopped at the door. She saw her Amma pecking her babuji's lips. Khushi stepped out of the room quickly, and almost ran to her room after hearing what Garima said. "I was so scared thinking that I'd lose you. It was the toughest test of life to me that I felt numb. Thank God that you're back to your home, to me."
Khushi leaned against her room's closed door. It was not the first time she had seen her parents close, but this time it felt different...maybe because she is married now and has a husband. Were they supposed to be that close between them? She questioned herself remembering the longing, despair, love and much more in her Amma's voice. Does he have a right over her to do anything? A shiver ran down her spine as she recalled the morning kiss along with some intimate scenes she had seen in some bollywood movies. Amma says that a husband is your soul, your everything; who has every right on you, she debated herself frowning at the memories. Why was she recalling all of this at once?
________
Arnav did not know why he could not resist kissing her forehead. The facts that they had cleared everything out between them, and that she is actually a caring person and responsible one- as he had seen the way she behaves with her family- were affecting him a lot. He felt that the Khushi he had seen months before is back, and this time he observes her being closer than any time before. He was thinking of that sheepish smile of hers which made his heart react quickly and rapidly. He still almost could feel her skin against is lips, so soft, so tempting that he wanted more...
His phone beeped disturbing his pleasant thoughts. Had lunch and medicines? He read the text once and blinked to make sure that he read the sender's ID correctly. Was it out of concern? Or was she just returning a 'favour'? Needless to say that he wanted the first option.
Yes and you? He typed with a smile.
Just had it. His phone beeped again.
Call Payal and ask her to write notes for you. He massaged her after five minutes.
She had really forgotten and he remembered. I will. Thanks for reminding me. See you :)
_______
"Okay? Please try to write down everything. I can't trust your notes sometimes."
"Another word against me and I won't give you the notes, Khushi Arnav Singh Raizada!" Payal faked a threat.
Khushi felt something she could not digest hearing her name associated with his. "Ooh, Payal Gupta! You can't do this... Payal?" Khushi hesitated remembering something. She was arguing with herself about telling Payal or not.
"What's up, Khushi? Is everything okay between you and jijaji?" Payal asked sensing the change in Khushi's tone, "you know that you always can tell me anything." Payal urged Khushi to speak.
" Woh...you know...I've always been wrong with him, and...and I think that I should...you know make up for what I've done." Khushi spoke fidgeting with her dupatta.
If it were another time, another situation, Payal would have certainly laughed at the uneasiness in Khushi's voice, but she knew better; she knew what Khushi might be going through. "You should do the things which please a man."
"Like?" khushi almost whispered hesitantly.
"Doing thinks he like as food," Payal paused for a moment before getting to the point, "like getting closer...you know what I mean, right Khushi?"
"Huh?" Khushi knew yet she wanted to hear Payal say that.
"You know some touches, soft caresses and maybe kisses. Making him feel that he is special, that you like being around him, talking to him and you're comfortable with him."
"Bye, Payal." That was the only thing Khushi could master to say.
Would I be able to give him anything of that sort? He is always nice and caring with me. He deserves every good thing in the world. Khushi was apprehensive thinking that she certainly started liking his company, that she liked it when he smiles to her and talk with her, and that this morning he kissed her. She was the one to push him away and she has to be the one to get closer to him.
________
"Arnavji, I want to sleep over here," Khushi said serving Arnav his black coffee. He was sitting in her room checking some mails when her voice melody-ed in his ears. He stood up reaching her, worry lines started to form on his forehead.
"What happened? I mean, uncle is fine. It's just a matter of few days and he will be like before and maybe better." He spoke with a concerned tone.
"It's just that I suddenly miss my room so much and I want to be here with my family as I could not get time to visit them appropriately after..our marriage."
"Okay," he muttered before her felt something soft against his cheeks. He blinked realizing that she was putting a hand on his shoulder and leaning to kiss him. The tortures part was that she lingered the kiss a bit too much for a quick one.
"Thank you so much," she said not meeting his eyes being conscious of what she just did. Did he like it? She wondered.
"But I have a condition," he said after recovering from the pleasant surprise.
"Condition? What condition?" She frowned meeting his eyes.
"I'll sleep over here too."
"But you don't have clothes or anything you would need." Khushi tried to reason.
"That I can arrange," he replied back not wanting to miss a day or a night without her.
"Okay." Her voice betrayed her as an excited tone replied.
After calling nani and telling her about their plan, asking her to send him few stuff with Hari Prakaash, Arrnav and Khushi sat with the family for an hour in which Arnav wanted to know more about Khushi and her family. He wanted to know the people who brought Khushi up, who taught her, whom Khsuhi grown up with. He realized that khushi is a little of each one with some of her own characteristics making her unique as she is. He realized that Khushi is caring as her Amma, kind of crazy and have those childish acts from her Buaji as their Hindi was somehow difficult for him sometimes and she was courageous like her Babuji.
_______
"I don't think you'll be comfortable here," Khushi spoke as she sat on the bed realizing how small it was comparing with his king-size one.
"I'll be fine," he replied rolling the sleeves of his shirt up as he sat on the other side of the bed.
The silence ruled the room for some minutes giving Khushi's mind an access to wander over Payal's words.
"How was your day?" Khushi broke the unbearable silence.
Arnav was surprised that he doubted his ears, but as he saw her questioning gaze, he knew that he heard it right. "It was good."
"Did you talk to Di? How is she?" Khushi tried to held a conversation again after a minute of silence in which they looked at everything but each other.
"She is good. She asked me to convey her greetings to you," Arnav replied.
"And you did not tell me till I asked you! Huh? I'll complain to Di," Khushi said shifting on the bed to face him, a hand on her hip and a pout on her lips; a strange mixture of innocence and boldness, Arnav noted.
"I forgot."
"I don't believe this."
"What did you say then?"
"Arnavji!" Khushi whimpered.
"What Khushi?"
"Didn't I tell you that Sachin is retiring?" He said with a glint of teasing in his eyes remembering that she once said that she loves cricket and Sachin.
"Arnavji! I know, and I cried listening to his speech. Koi faida nahi speaking with you. I'll just sleep." He chuckled at her child-like tone to be shocked by her hands which hit his arms.
"Khushi.."
