This is just fantastic...you really understand Vikrant's character better than the PVENU's cv's. You bring out his turmoil, emotions and conflicts perfectly...hats of to you. Wish your stories goes on and on for a long time unlike the serial...great piece of writing. In ❤️ with your articles.

PART 24

Raj's residence:

Raj silently made his way up the stairs to the one room he refused to open or enter for the past 10 years. He looked around to ensure that he was alone and pushed his hand deep into his pocket to dig for the key. He pulled it out and slid it into the socket and twisted it to unlock the door. He entered the room quietly and shut the door behind him softly. It was dark and he had to narrow his eyes to look around. So he went towards the switchboard and turned the lights on.

The room was just as how he left it when he last spent some moments here; and that was when Divya left for Mumbai to start her career as an actress. Their paths split and that brought a gut wrenching pain which he could not take. So he hurried to this room to seek solace; but the sweet memories that he shared with Divya here only turned it worse for him.

He saw her everywhere; seated near the dressing table, trying on her attire, reading her script, smiling at his reflection in the mirror. And this made him miss her even more and the truth was it made him love her even more too. But the thought that they could never be together killed him inside and those nostalgic moments he shared with her amplified the pain. He just could not take it anymore and decided to shut that part of his life forever and he left the room to keep the beautiful thoughts from plaguing him. That was the last day he ever spent time into this room. He shut the room and the memories it held and never looked back; until now.

Tonight he wanted to take refuge in it for a few minutes, to compose himself before he went to face his wife. Yes... His...wife, the love of his life was his wife now; and yet both of them could not take pleasure in the fact that after 10 years of struggle, here they were, wedded to each other. Their wish of getting married did come true, but one night or rather the actions of one person the night before, changed the entire reason for it though. He reminded himself that he was the cause for the current state of affairs between him and his wife. He had such a beautiful life ahead of him with Divya and he single handedly destroyed any chance of them living happily ever after. He laughed bitterly thinking that it only exists in fairy tales, not in real life.

He shook himself out of these thoughts. He had a task at hand and that was to make Divya believe in love and life again; but he was perplexed wondering where to start. He looked around the room hoping to find some answer to his ever growing confusion.

His eyes suddenly landed on something on the dressing table; a sheaf of papers stapled together. His brows furrowed while trying to recollect what exactly was it. He gradually made his way towards it, pushing the cobwebs that blocked his path along the way; his slippers making footsteps on the dust filled floor. His hands went to reach for it and he had to strain to read what was written on it. He picked it up and used the kerchief in his pocket to wipe the dirt settled on it. And the moment he read the title, all the memories rushed back to him in a flash. It was the last script they worked on and the conversation they had was still afresh in his mind.

"I don't think I can do this, Raj!" Divya exclaimed, only to hear a calm" Yes you can" from Raj.

"It is too big a role; the character is a very strong willed woman, widowed and a single mother. How the hell do you expect me to fit into this part?" She enquired uncertainly.

"Because you are a fantastic artist; you have the talent to essay any part with ease. So why are you not very confident with this one?" Raj questioned her back.

"I have done all kinds of roles, Raj; a light hearted teenager, a funny friend, a strict teacher, a loving wife. Everything! But there is something about this role that frightens me. This character has so many layers; she is a very emotional person, loves her near and dear very much, has been through a lot in life but she is strong willed too, had to pull herself together after losing her husband, is raising her son on her own. I am wondering if I will be able to play this part to perfection, because that is what it requires and I am still an amateur. And this is what scares me!" She said expressing her concerns.

Raj grabbed both her hands in his and squeezed them tight; He looked deep into her eyes while saying, "Never underestimate yourself, Divya! You are a person who puts her soul into acting; you get into the depth of any character that you play and bring the said character to life. That is why I am very confident that you will portray this character with such brilliance that the audience will be left wonder struck." He re-assured her.

Divya hugged him tight and rested her head on his chest, to hear the rhythmic beat of his heart. Raj's hands automatically went around her. She smiled before uttering,"Oh how I love you Raj! You know me so very well; my likes and dislikes, what makes me happy and what makes me sad, my strengths and weaknesses. You lend your support silently when I don't even realize that I need it. You offer reassurances when I doubt my capability. I live and breathe because of you; you are my strength..." she paused laughing nervously through her unshed tears before saying, "and my weakness too. Thank you so much, Raj"

Raj stepped back and immediately placed his finger on her lips saying, "Shhh...don't say anything more, sweetheart. I love you and I will do anything for you." He wiped the single tear that rolled down her cheek, before adding," You do the same for me, Divya. You have provided me silent support and have showered me with your unconditional love and understanding. I promise that I will not break your trust or love eve in life."

He swooped down to take her lips into his for a sweet and emotional kiss.

He was jolted out of his thoughts by the clattering of plates downstairs. He chuckled bitterly thinking of the irony of his situation; he didn't think twice before breaking the promise that he made so passionately to Divya.

He was distracted by the script in his hand and he traced the cover with his fingers lightly. Divya worked over time on the role, she lived and breathed it. But unfortunately they could not present it on stage, because she was offered a big role on TV, which she had accepted instantly; not because she did not want to do this play, but because she had her whole family depending on her and she was the sole bread winner. She apologized profusely for not being in a position to do that particular stage show. He tabled it because he could not picture anyone else in that role other than Divya.

He heaved a huge sigh as his reminiscence of past memories came to an end. He knew what he had to do now, he determined as he looked at the bunch of papers in his hand and proceeded to leave the room after turning the lights off.

And this time he did not bother to lock the door behind him; he once locked it to keep the memories away, but now he wanted to leave it open to revive them.
