Khushi Kumari Gupta stood outside the door of the Raizada Mansion. Should she do this? After dwelling so much over this, for the whole one day and two night she is still little unsure of her decision. But she has no other choice. She has to do this. It doesn't matter whether the decision is wrong or right she has to do this. Her Devi Maiya has left her with no other divergence.
So, She lifted her hand to ring the door bell of Raizada Mansion. She had made the resolution, the resolution which she is not sure of. The resolution which she don't know where it will lead her. But all said and done, here the point is, she don't have any other choice and she has to do this.
And with that thought Khushi Kumari Gupta pressed her finger on the switch of the door bell of Raizada Mansion.
And thus the fate of Khushi Kumari Gupta was sealed, sealed for eternity!
For better or for worse? Well, time will answer that question!
Hari Prakash opened the door for the guest who has ringed the bell at 8'o clock in the evening. He saw a petite girl standing in front of him fidgeting with the ends of her blue dupata. She smiled at him, the smile which he felt like he is obliged to reciprocate, and he did.
"Yes! How can I help you?" asked HP in a polite manner.
"I ...mmm...I...Namaste" Khushi greeted him, joining her hands.
"Ji, Namaste." Reciprocated HP.
"I...mm..can I meet Mr.Raizada? " asked Khushi, smiling nervously .
"Come in. Arnav Bhaiya is in his Study. I will ask him. You please take a seat" said HP, stepped aside and signaled Khushi to take a seat on the sofa in the living room.
HP went towards Arnav's study to inform him about the guest, the guest with an infectious smile.
Meanwhile Khushi was in awe of the Raizada Mansion. The whole living room speaks of class. The wall painted with dull cream color, the color which she is not so found of but she liked it. The excessive antics used for the interior was conspicuous. The beautiful hanging paintings and Hey devi Miya! Do they have a pool there?
But Khushi's thought was short lived as HP returned back to inform Khushi that Arnav Bhaiya has called her to his Study.
Khushi immediately stood up and asked HP the directions to Study and started taking baby steps towards her destination.Hey Devi Maiya should I do this? She again asked to her best friend. But didn't get any answer in reply. But what's the point is thinking now. Now the decision is made and there's no turning back from here.
Khushi stood in front of yet another door, but this time she has no doubt or hesitancy. It's right that she has no other way out but no one has forced her to do this. It's solely her decision. And again giving an end to her small monologue, She knocked at the door.
"Come in" came a voice straight from the horse's mouth or from lion's to be more accurate.
Khushi hesitantly stepped in the room, she was nervous, very much on that. Well , it's not new. She always feels fidgety when he is in front of her. She can talk nineteen to dozen with anyone, no matter who the person is but with Mr.Raizada? She doesn't know what is in him which makes her so edgy but she feels like a child who has just called by the principle of the school for the mistake she has committed.
"So Miss.Gupta! What brings you here?" asked the principle, as per Khushi.
"Sir...I...I...I..." stammered Khushi, feeling hell nervous.
"Stop with your stammering rituals, Miss. Gupta, Will you?" roared the lion.
"Sorry Sir...I am here because...because...because..." again stammered Khushi not able to tell the reason for which she is here.
"Enough!! Miss.Gupta, stammer once more and kiss good bye to the idea of yours that I will listen to you." bellowed Arnav, running out of patience.
"No Sir. I am saying Sir. Actually the thing is that, Aman sir has said that you need a woman for..." but Khushi was cut short by the lion again.
"What the!!! Aman said that to you? Why the hell he said that to you?" Arnav's voice reverberated the Study.
"No No, Sir. Please don't be mad on Aman Sir, please. He was not eager to tell me. It was me who forced him to say. Actually he was very upset over something and I told him that my Buaji has said that if we share our problems than we feel good. I know that it doesn't solve the problem but still we feel good. " said Khushi frantically shaking her hands and trying her best to save her Aman Sir from the lion in front of her.
"Ok! he shared his "problem" with you and now you are here to get him rid of that "problem" !" deduced Arnav, Khushi's reason to be here.
"No, Sir! I am here...to...to ...to...to serve the purpose." Decalred Khushi now averting her eyes from Arnav, which was till now looking in his eyes.
"WHAT!!!" again bellowed Arnav, unable to believe what he is hearing.
"Yes, Sir! You...you...heard it right! I am ready to do whatever you want" said Khushi concentrating on the designs of tiles on the floor now.
"Miss. Gupta! Have you lost it? Just get out of here! Looks like you are not in your right frame of mind !" blustered Arnav.
"No, Sir! I know what I am doing. I am ready for that. What is the problem with me? You want a woman and so I am." Replied Khushi. She has to make him agree. If he will say No than what will she do? She has no other way, he has to agree!.
"Exactly!! Miss. Gupta, exactly, I need a women not a teenager of 18" again Arnav countered in a high pinch voice.
"No, Sir! Don't go by my petite form. Please believe me I can do everything. Pleae Sir. I assure you that I will not give you a chance to complain." Now pleaded Khushi. She is desperate to make him say yes.
Arnav fisted his palm. What has Aman gotten him into. What was the need to tell all this to Miss. Gupta. How can he say yes to her. She is just a teenager. How can she handle it! But what is her reason for her agreeing for this. There must be something. He knows Miss. Gupta from 2 months, she works at AR. He knows what kind of person she is,highly rooted to her Lucknowi culture and tradition so much so that she doesn't follows the dress code of AR, saying she is not comfortable in that western dress and always wears her trademark salwar-suit, which clings to her body as second skin making her different from others and also more attarctive. What?! From where does that last thought came from.Get a grip Raizada! , Arnav chided himself. There must be some valid reason for her being congruent on doing this.
"Why Miss. Gupta? What is the need to do this? I know you will not agree for this willingly, so spit out your reason for doing this"asked Arnav controlling his anger, which he is not at all good at.
"Sir...I...I...I need money..." Again stammered Khushi lowering her head.
Oh! So he was all while right in ultimating that a middle class girl like her has no other motive other than money. So this all about money. He was so wrong in thinking that Miss. Gupta is an exception. The way she handles the taunts of her colleagues, the way she makes Friends in just a snap, the way she puts smiles on everyone's face, her beauty, her innocence, her jovial nature, this is all a false facade. She is same, same like others, no exceptions. And why had he thought that Miss.Gupta is an exception? Is there anyone who is not after money? No, right? Than how can Miss. Gupta be an exception? She is no different than others.
"So, Miss.Gupta? Money is what brings you here!" declared Arnav.
"Yes, Sir! I need money" confirmed Khushi.
"So, it's all about money, isn't it? Miss. Gupta? Money is all you want? I was right, girls like you can do anything for many" said Arnav in the dangerous tone. Why is he feeling so much affronted. It' not like it is the first time he has got the privilege of meeting someone who can do anything for money! So why the hell he is feeling so enraged. Is it because that, that someone is Miss.Gupta? No it can't be! She makes no difference to him. She is like any other employee. So why this Bubbling anger? Why dammit!!!
"No, Sir it's not like that...you are taking it wrong...i need money for...for..." started Khushi.
But Arnav not able to take another trying-to-act-naive-act from Miss.Gupta strode towards her and held her arms in a iron like grip. His eyes emitting fire looking in her frightened one.
"So What should I deduce from your I-can-do-anything-you want, Miss.Gupta? " asked Arnav , his eyes boring into Khushi.
"No, Sir! I didn't mean that...I...I...need money for...for my Buaji!" answered Khushi, holding back her tears but unable to look in his eyes.
"Ah! Your another stunt. How much low can you stoop, Miss.Gupta? Stop acting, will you?" asked Arnav tightening his hold on Khushi's arms.
Act? Does he think that she is acting here? Does he think that it was easy to walk on her dreams? Does he know how much difficult it was for her to take this decision. She has no choice. She only has her Buaji with her. Her only living family. The lady who has provided shelter to a 8 year old, orphan girl who had lost her both the parents on the very same day.The lady who loves her immensely, who has always treated her like her own baby. The lady who is her everything and the lady who is now in hospital fighting for her life. Her Buaji had an heart attack two weeks ago.Khushi has paid the bill till now from her savings. But now Doctor has advised a bypass surgery. The surgery which she can't afford. But she will not let anything happen to her Buaji just because she has no money. And this is the very reason she is here, Standing in front of the lion. And he thinks that she is doing all this just for money. Yes! He is partially right she is here for the money. But the reason is not money, the reason is her Buaji's life. So for the sake of her Buaji she has to clear his all misunderstanding and tell him her reason to be here.
Khushi lifted her lashes to look at the lion roaring and accusing her. With her big almond shape eyes, shimmering with unshed tears she looked at his ragging one.
Arnav saw her eyes. Her big hazel eyes. Now glimmering with helpless tears. He felt something stir in the left side of his chest. And felt something...something...something he has no idea. Why Dammit!!He again chided himself. Why the tears of this chit of a girl is affecting him. She is a gold-digger, an opportunistic, she doesn't deserve this feelings. But unaware of himself, he has unconsciously loosened his hold on her arms.
"Sir! Please, first hear me out. Please, Sir. After listening to me if you want to throw me out of your house than it's ok with me.I will not protest. I promise. But, Sir first hear me out" pleaded Khushi, desperately.
Arnav saw in her pleading and helpless eyes and thought of listening to her. Let's see how much more lie she can dish out. He left her arms and turned around, his back facing Khushi.
Khushi saw him leaving her arms and turning around. That was signal enough for her that he is ready to hear her. So weeping away some drops of tears from her cheeks, she started.
"Sir, my Buaji...She had an Heart attack two weeks ago...I have admitted her in hospital...now she is better...but...but ...Doctor says that she has to undergo an Surgery...and the cost of surgery is something I can't afford...so...so...so I want the money...my Buaji means everything to me...if something happens to her than...than... " Khushi choked out her last words and stopped. The till now retained tears, flowing down her cheeks.
Arnav listened to her reason and need for money. Is she telling the truth? Or she is acting? Should he believe her? Well he can make out whether she is telling the truth or lying!
"Which hospital is your Buaji admitted to?" asked Arnav still not turning around to look at Khushi.
"Sir...she is in...she is in City Hospital." Answered Khushi little happy that he paying some attention to her and sad because he still thinks that she is lying.
Arnav dialed a number and waited for the recipient to answer the call.
"Aman, I want you to find out something" said Arnav into the phone and explained him what he wants him to do.
Arnav waited for few moments in the silence. No one wanting to say something.
Ringing of Arnav's cell broke the silence. He saw the caller's name and picked up the phone, after listening to what Aman wants to say and without speaking a word he disconnected the call and turned around to see a crying Khushi.
"So you are right! Your Buaji IS hospitalized" said Arnav in a stern voice. If he was affected by her tears than he didn't show on his face.
"Yes, Sir! I never lie, Sir. My Buaji has taught me that one should never lie, no matter what. I never disobey her. I always listen to her and can do anything for her. " said Khushi innocently and weeping the tears off her cheek.
Arnav looked at the girl standing in front on him. Can he say yes to her? But she is still a teenager! Will she be able to handle it. But she is a perfect candidate. She easily adjusts in the new environment which he has deduced from these 2 months. Everyone in the office is in awe of her obviously eliminating few. And moreover she is always afraid of him and thus will always obey him. She is just perfect! He knows that the amount she wants for her Buaji's operation is very little for him and he can easily provide her. But the question is WHY? Why should he help someone just like that? He doesn't do anything without his own benefit than why she should be an exception? So he decided to give in!
Thus he has taken his decision.
The decision which has sealed his fate.
But for better or worse? Well, time will answer that
