H, have you read this book called "A palace of illusions"? The whole book is Draupadi's narration of Mahabharata. Since your story revolves around Shyama, I thought you might enjoy that book. It makes a good read.

Vishwa could taunt whom when she is the narrator... ;)

I have read it, but the writing style wasn't to my liking. Mainly, Draupadi's portrayal came across puerile to me. Can do better.
Yajnaseni is another extreme, too prosaic for my tastes; the leading lady too docile for her own good.

The original translation by Kisari Mohan Ganguli is entirely another. Purple prose that literally gave me a black eye. I couldn't stand it when every man was addressed, "O bull of Aryavart..." or "O bull of the Kuru clan..."

I'm hearing Ramesh Menon's Draupadi depicts a depraved woman.

In truth, I'm yet to find that fictionalized version that will quench my thirst.

The palace of Illusions was good in parts but Draupadi somehow didn't stir my senses ..

Bharatiyar's Panchaali Shabadham is powerful but only if you understand Tamil you can appreciate the work...haven't found a translated English version though (Panchaali is Draupadi here and Shabadham refers to the famous vow she took after she was nearly disrobed by Dushasana)
Kamala Subramaniam's Mahabharatha is an excellent book - lucid writing, characters easy to visualize and there's the take-away for everyone from 8 to 80 years (and no, I'm not related to the author in case you're wondering😊) Granted Draupadi is only one character here but its worth a read

First of all sorry for being late.

At first I was wondering how you would fit the epic's story to modern time but after reading some of the parts like the occupation of Arjun's brothers, his step brothers, his family history, I'm very much surprised as I couldn't even in my dreams imagine that a story like this could be written. I'm eagerly waiting to read many such instances from the epic :)

What about Kunti's son Karna? Will you write as it is in the epic?

I'm loving Shyama and Arjun. And of course Vishwa.:)

Of course, I can read and write tamil...
As far as I know, its Bhim who vows to drink the blood of Dushasan and to break Duryodhan's thigh. But every version has its own rendering of the defining moment in the story. So, for now, I'm sticking to the critical edition.

You should read Mudra then...the story has an heavy impact from one of Bharathiyar's poems.

Draupadi vows not to tie her hair until her honour is avenged and she washes it with Dushasana's blood (ugh) - hence the open hair until the war is over 😊
