Chapter 2: Autumn

romantic autumn wallpaper - romantic autumn hd background

Dawn arrived sooner than I anticipated. Groaning, I laid on the bed staring in to the ceiling losing myself in to my narration of life. You know that severe chest pain you feel when the things you've bottled up begins to resurface. Then you begin to cry without understanding what exactly you're shedding tears for. All your beliefs in second chances disappears in to thin air. Nothing seems to make sense. We begin to drown ourselves in to unwanted solutions to numb such feelings. Strange emotions withholds your soul trapping you in its cage. Before we realize the danger that's on our way it's too late. Life itself collapses in to ashes. And sometimes you see such down falls of the people you love, which is far worse than you can imagine.

Last night when I arrived home I found my mother fast asleep on the couch. Tears stained across her bony pale cheeks. She almost looked ghost like. If it wasn't for the flesh on her bones I'd think she was a dead zombie. When she made that promise to me we both knew the difficulty phases we'd face. What we did not expect was the amount of time I had to live.

A knock on the door interrupted my racing thoughts. 'You only have a couple of days to live. Why don't you take a walk in the park or something.' Quietly, mom's voice entered the room. I snapped my head up to see her tired face. 'Oh. Yeah I was thinking of it. Why don't you come mom? Both of us can take a walk together,' I suggested, praying she'd take up my offer. Alas there was no such luck. 'No I have a lot of work in the house. You get along and later we can go out for dinner.'

'Mom... You said we would be in this together. Why are you pushing me away.' Tears threatened to drop, but I restrained myself. 'It's not easy for me Khushi,' came her quiet reply. 'In a couple of days I will have to live on my own. No husband, no daughter. Everyone I've loved is dead or going to die. I just need a bit time to let it sink in.'

'You do realize by the time it sinks in I will be dead. How can you forget that you're not the only person who is going through this pain. Have you ever realized the fear I feel for the upcoming horror. If you haven't realized, mom I am not exactly an expert when it comes to death. So if you want to drown in your pain all alone go right ahead, but when the time comes and it sinks in I will be long gone.' Brushing past her I left the house without a glance. Yet I knew tears were already gliding down her cheeks as it were doing on my own.

***

Fresh of clean air hit my lungs as I stepped outside in to the quiet path leading towards the huge park. Orange, red leaves danced along to the tunes of the breeze painting the entire scenery with its tint. Autumn was my favourite season. There was such a peaceful state of beauty in the atmosphere. Winds swishing by, leaves raining down from trees; living things all coming to a graceful end. Who would have thought that the season of death would take place with a radiant twist.

Boots crunched on the dry leaves as I walked to my favourite side of the park; the bench facing the lake view. My place of complete solace. Nobody ever came to this spot except me, which would be why I've always loved it. Back in the day when my own father was battling cancer, I'd come here to escape from the torment of seeing his own agony. Oh how the clocks have turned.

Arriving at the spot I sat myself down on the cold bench. My eyes roamed across the lake taking in the scenery of complete serenity. Leaves floated on the surface tinting the water with red. Peace settled in to the pits of my gut at the image. I was home.

'Ironic isn't it The season of death is most beautiful than any other season.' A familiar voice murmured behind me. Yelping, I jumped up in surprise. I whipped my head to see the culprit whom was invading my personal bubble. Eyes widened with shock I held in my breath.

'What are you doing here?!'

Shrugging he walked around the bench and seated himself down casually. 'Nothing. I was walking around the neighbourhood and thought I'd drop by here. One of my favourite spots in this area. Peaceful.' He titled his head at me. 'Why are you standing with your mouth open? Sit down would you. I don't mind some company on this beautiful morning.'

Baffled at his calm demeanor, I did not budge. 'Are you following me?' He laughed at the question. 'I don't know, am I?', came his cheeky reply.

'Okay look, ' I sat down on the bench keeping my distance from him. 'Just because I gave you the key doesn't make it some kind of invitation for you to follow me. Right now I am thinking two things. One, you're a murderer and two, you're a murderer.' Another laugh escaped his lips. 'You sure know how to make friends don't you. For your information I am not following you. This is merely a coincidence. Maybe fate wanted us to meet since you ran off after you told me your name.'

'So you're a murder because as far as I am concerned fate doesn't exactly do things for the better. '

Curiosity seeped in to his eyes. 'You have a very strong opinion on fate don't you.' It was a statement more than a question. I shrugged and leaned against the bench with a sigh. 'I think we are all entitled for our own opinions.'

'Indeed,' he shook his head, 'I never said we aren't.'

'So what's your name?,' I asked, deciding to change the subject. 'I gave you my name so what's yours?' His eyes twinkled as a glorious smile lit up his entire face. I almost choked on my own spit at the sight. 'So you want to be friends now?', he drawled. 'Just because I am asking your name doesn't mean I am proposing to be friends.'

'Arnav.'

'What?'

'It's Arnav Singh Razaida,' he repeated, emphasizing each name. 'I would have told you my name yesterday, but someone was in a hurry to leave.'

'You do realize the set up yesterday was the perfect scene for a murder. How was I supposed to know whether you were safe or not. Also let's not forget that we were in a dark ally. So much could happen.'

'If you were so afraid that I was going to murder you why exactly did you give me your name. Didn't you realize that I could trace your name, find you and then come kill you?' Corners of his lips quirked in to a cheeky smirk. Lightly glaring I huffed. 'Whatever.' Defeated with this debate I hunched my shoulders in sadness. Reality surfaced again at the present circumstances.

'Life is weird isn't it,' I felt myself murmur. ' One moment when you think there is a way out the next you're falling down a cliff.'

'There is nothing solid in life, Khushi. Every moment, every day of every second is important for we do not know when our time will come.' Arnav eyes strained forward in to the distance. 'And by the time we do realize when it has come there will be nothing we can do,' I added quietly.

He removed his focus from the distance to face me. 'You're wrong. Many things can be done, such as collecting the memories. Making those memories apart of you for the people we love are always in our hearts. But then... sometimes miracles happen. Absolutely mind blowing miracles takes place. You are not sure whether it's even real, but you hold on to that little faith because that's all we've got.'

Sadly I smiled at his words. 'Miracles are dreams. There are no such things in the real world.'

'You're wrong. If there is faith anything is possible. Clocks can turn.'

'Oh yeah,' rage filled the pit of my stomach as I venomously spit out. 'If miracles did exist then how come when a moment I see a way out, life comes and slaps me across the face! How come I end up losing my father at such a young age! How come out of nowhere I am told that I only have five days to live! Did you know today is my frickin second day! SECOND. SO explain to me THESE SO CALLED MIRACLES.' Somberly he set his eyes directly in to my own. Chilling sensations swept over my body as he spoke dead calmly. 'Because I was given a second chance to save you.'
