Chapter 9 "I love you .." He said those words again...and stood waiting for her to come to terms with what happened just now... She was looking at him.. confused.. shocked...and numb..There was a silence.. she moved away from him...looking in different direction.. He was scared...why was she silent...It was tough for him to let it all out at that moment...but he feared her response...not that he feared rejection...he feared that will he loose something important... all that they shared...their bond...their friendship... "Meera.." He called out... "I want to go home...now.." She interrupted him...still looking away..her voice little shaky... Without any further question...he moved back to his car...she followed... While driving back home...he tried to look at her...she was quiet whole time... this was unsettling for him... He was prepared for a NO...he was prepared for her shouting and yelling...but he was not prepared for this silence... Soon they reached Meera's home... Meera had not spoken a word...and shekhar was running out of his patience... She got down from the car and made way to her home... She cant just leave like that..shekhar thought and got down...He followed her... "Meera...you cant go like this... Atleast say something..." He called out from behind..while she was just about to open the gate of her house... She stopped... She looked back at him...He was waiting... "What you want to hear..." She asked in a stern voice ..her eyes looking at him with anger... Shekhar was prepared for her outburst..He gulped and moved closer to her... "your decision... anything..just say something..if you r angry..then let it out...please.." He calmly said..sensing the turmoil brewing inside her... "I never thought you would say something like that...shekhar.. for all these years..I have trusted you as a friend..infact my best friend.." She started...then looked away from him...and then continued... "Who else but you know it well...that sameer was the only one whom i ever loved..and yes loved so much..I know you think I am broken person right now...but I dont need this sympathy... You have already done enough for me... just dont make it hard for me...let me fight my own battles shekhar..." She softened her tone a bit...and pleaded...looking back at him... "Sympathy... You mean.. I just want to show sympathy..." He paused and then continued...
"I know you dont need my help..and you can fight your own battle...but cant I just walk along..."
"Just stop it ...shekhar..." Meera knew he was making it hard for her...
"why are you doing this... or you think that you have a chance since sameer is no more..." She blurted out in rage...without even realising what she was saying...but she just wanted to end this conversation...
Words hit him hard...he knew she was saying it in anger...but pain of her words was still too much to handle for him...
"You said what..."
"Just leave me alone... Just go away... "She said it aloud ..thinking it was best for him to leave...else she might hurt him more...
He was hurt but he understood her reason to be alone...thus without a single word ...he left from there...She was angry with herself for hurting him...but she knew he deserved better ..and certainly not her...
She didnt realise that there was someone else too witnessing the whole scene...Gayatri was at door when she saw what happened with two friends...She thought meera needed time to be alone...and more importantly time to think ...think it through...
Meera went inside her room...and closed the door...She just came near her bed and sat on floor beside it...she felt like loosing another important relation today... She cursed her fate...she lost the two most important people in her life...one was taken away by fate...while other one she had deliberately taken out of her life...but how could she let him suffer when she knew that she wont be able to do justice to his love...
his unconditional love...which she knew...she didnt deserve...
"I am so sorry shekhar..."She burst out crying aloud...
Shekhar came back home...thinking all the way...the words said by her...still haunting him...He knew she didnt mean it...and he wished she stopped him...but may be this was time that she needed...He didnt know why...but still he had this faith she will call him back one day...
